Will we weep over the death of a celebrity so much that we forget the common man who joined him in death.
I swear, sometimes I hate this country and its absurd materialism. I hate it.

How the death of a celebrity is treated with more respect than the one with him? Would you feel more grief by hearing the death of someone you know versus the one you don't? Take your friend and someone you don't know. Which one would you be more hurt to hear the death of? |

This is different. None of these "grieving" citizens knew him personally. I understand that even celebrities who seem to have done no humanitarian work are still valued due to the morale they boost, and therefore I am not saying in the slightest that most celebrities don't deserve their fame. It just frustrates me so how much we value fame more than life itself. Quote: arceustheprime

Yup! But I'm not talking about personally. I'm talking about being aware of one's existance!~ You don't need to know them personally to develop deep feelings for them!~ Point is! Of course the celebrity is going to have more people sad to hear about his/her death, they knew of his/her existance and of his/her work. People are sad because someone they knew and liked died. They had emotions for them. When you talked about that celebrity they would react happily. Seeing someone die without having any awareness of them would be sad, but how could we feel terrible about someone we don't have a clue on who exactly he was. Telling them about the death of someone they don't know wouldn't negatively impact them because they have no knowledge on what the guy has done. |

Honestly, these days, the attention you get from your death now relies on your fame.
People die everyday and no one gives a fudge about them. Just some lucky few generate media attention.

Well... celebrities are and always will be special group of people when it comes down to the terms of moaning about someone's death. We see them in movies, in television and etc. We form some kind of bond to them and when they go away from our lives for eternity they leave a hole that cannot be replaced for a little while. That's a difference between famous and regular people’s deaths. I did not watch any of Paul Walker's works but I must say that a young human life was taken away from this world way too soon and all prayers etc. are with him and his family and friends.

Well hey, no more Fast and Furious movies (hopefully).
Though I haven't seen the latest one/s so I don't know if he even starred in those. On a more serious note, this always happens when a known person dies. And I mean regardless of your country of origin. It's a phenomenon that can be explained with various theories from social psychology, so there's really no use trying to put the blame on "others" or anything else. |
