I didn't see this in the suggestions so I'm asking:

Is there a way to ignore a user, to stop seeing someone's posts?

It would make it easier to have the ability to render a post invisible if posted by someone on an Ignore list. Now I sort of skip posts, avoid sections, avoid certain threads... If I could just render these invisible, it would make the forum more comfortable from time to time. It would allow to ignore troll attacks as well.

I also wish that there was a block all feature so that people couldn't pm you if you wanted to be left alone, but someone random pms you. That way you don't have to go through and block 11,000 users.

I am on another forum where the ignore feature was put into effect. Here's what I observed:

-Members who ignored certain users often were very confused, and made posts in topics that got them into a lot of hot water
-Users got extremely offended when they learned they were being ignored. As it stands now, people frequently make topics in the Stuff & Nonsense section to complain about users blocking them. This idea would only make these types of thing happen more often.

The feature was taken down within weeks of putting it up. You know that you can just scroll past posts if you want to ignore them. I do that very often. <.<

We don't have any and I think it would be better if we don't.

Still, this would be cool.

Yeah, something like this would cause a lot of drama. If you really don't want to see certain users posts you could always make an add-on for your browser using JavaScript and have it remove any posts from users in a list created within the add-on. It wouldn't be too difficult if you know JavaScript and I'm sure there are tutorials online. It'd be something similar to Ad Block or anything similar to it.

I actually considered making something like this, but then I figured it'd be a waste of time as I rarely come on here anymore and I just ignore posts.

Um, just scroll past the posts.

Simple as that.

it looks like the 'just scroll past the posts and ignore' works pretty well....

Decided to take the time to read it.

You skipped past some posts easily. If you really do skip past posts, why are you asking for this? As HIR said, it'd cause alot of drama for users to know they're ignored and it'd cause lots of confusion in threads. And if you do indeed read it, just don't reply if it's a troll attack.

Just my few cents on this situation.

They have this feature on the SEGA Forum. It has the added bonus of informing you of a post made by an ignored user, with a 'Show this post' option just in case you actually want to see it.

I honestly have found it useful, though it's certainly something which can be abused (like blocking).

this would be awesome and probably the best way to do it.

I don't see how it could be abused, as if you decide to just ignore all users of the forum, you're the only one affected by it.

That's honestly a pretty good idea. The "show this post" manuever definetley sounds pretty clever. I agree that they should do it this way if people were to be ignored.

Most every forum on the internet has some kind of ignore feature. For those who think it's an issue... well, don't ever go anywhere else on the internet.

With that said, I use the "just scroll past it" method myself. smilie
