"Of course not, whippersnapper." Zephyr shouts. "Yer the one we're sendin' packing. Go on and get. Yer fired!"

"What?!" HCI screams in rage. "Y-You can't do this to me, see! I was gonna pull of the heist of all heists. I was gonna loot that Bowser's royal treasury. All the riches for me, see." He half-laughs, half-shouts.

"So, you're some sort of thief then?" Prex concludes.

"No! I'm not just 'some sort of thief.'" HCI scoffs. "I'm the Shadow Thief! Greatest thief in the land, see." He turns away from the group. "And yer gonna regret turning your backs on me, see."

"But, like, you're the one who turned your back on us just now, maaaaaaaaan." Weebbby mumbles.

"I KNOW WHAT I DID, SEE!" HCI screams. "I'm gonna make all of yous sorry. You'll rue the day you thought you could outfox... the Shadow Thief!" He pauses, and looks back at them. "Well, go on... START RUING!" He turns back around and flees, running off extraordinarily quickly for someone of his size.

"Well, that was certainly an exit..." CG says with a shrug of his shoulders.

"He was, liek, such a grumpy cat." Seiki giggles.

"This is all fine and dandy," chained skull mutters, "But where do we go from here?"

"Maybe if we believe hard enough, a plot device will come to our rescue!" Troll Slug suggests, beaming confidently.

"That's got to be the most doggone ridiculous thing I've done ever..." Ninpire starts to scold when a large metal box floats down from the sky. Everyone turns to face Troll Slug.

"How do you keep doing that?!" Cynderfan gasps in shock.

"Uh... witchcraft?" Troll Slug chuckles with a nervous sweatdrop running down the back of his head.

"What is this thing?" Scratch asks, reaching toward it.

"NO! Don't touch it!" Bruce shouts. "It's a zombie death beam. One blast from that durn thing will wipe out all life across the galaxy!" Zephyr smacks his companion upside the head.

"W-What do you know about zombie technology, ya durn fool?" Zephyr scolds. "My grandmother was half zombie, and th-that whatchamadoohickey is actually a high-tech flashlight. Yeah, we used to make those durn gizmos out of papier mache." He explains. Meanwhile, Scratch has touched the box. It opens up, revealing an extremely bright death.

"NOOOOOOOO! IT'S THE ZOMBIE DEATH BEAAAAAAAAAM!" Bruce screams. The light fades, to reveal a TV screen with a smiley face on it.

"Greetings!" A generic male announcer calls.

"Human heroes." A much suaver voice cuts in.

"...You lucky devils." The male announcer picks up. "You have received a Happy Time Video Greeting Box from..."

"Zippy Toadenopolis!" The suave voice interrupts yet again.

"Huh? That voice sounds familiar." CG ponders aloud. The television screen then shifts to what looks like an advertisement, and the suave voice begins to speak once more.

"Mad for mayhem? Adore carnage? Love destruction?" It asks, showing an image of two Koopa Troopas getting torched by a flamethrower and then crushed by a Thwomp. "Then sign up now for the bloodies, goriest, killingest gladiator event in the universe... THE DARK LAND FIGHT FESTIVAL!" The voice cheers, before mumbling, "Rated 'M' for mature."

"A gladiator event?" Paris gasps.

"Come on down to Bowseropolis to partake... oops, I mean witness the most exciting, hair-raising spectacle." The voice offers. "Offeronlyvalidforsneakyhumanheroesandtheircompanions." The television then shuts off and flies away.

"Liek, whoah! I totes recognize dat voice. 0.0" Seiki yells.

"Wah! It was that Zip Toad guy from the Survivor game." BrutalBash declares. "He's working for Bowser now?"

"He invited us directly to that Dark Land Fight Festival." Chill points out. "Do we go?"

"It's obviously a trap." Paris declares. "But conventional, generic adventure heroes logic dictates we go there. As we might find something there to advance the plot!"

"Careful, Paris, you're going to break the 4th wall!" Ash cries, shuddering at the thought.

"Nice idea, Rookies." Bruce applauds. "In the mean time, Zeph and I will look into a way to sneak into the capital of Dark Land! We'll be in touch."

Dark Land Fight Festival, Bowseropolis

"This place gives me the willies." Scratch shivers as the group lies in wait at the challenger entrance. Bowseropolis stands as a massive, brightly lit amusement park with Bowser's mug plastered everywhere. Upon arrival, the group received a cell phone. Sure enough, Zip Toad was on the other end of the line.

"I've managed to procure an ingenious set of disguises for your little group." Zip Toad explained.

"Is it just gonna be big eyeglasses and fake mustaches?" Prex pressured. "That's the oldest trick in the disguise book."

"O-Of course not." Zip Toad stammered. "What kind of super secret undercover actor/hero do you think I am?"

"A lousy one." chained skull muttered under his breath.

So they all stand waiting for quite a while. Suddenly, the teleporter activates in front of them. The cell phone turns on again and Zip Toad instructs, "Step inside the teleporter and get ready to put your dukes up."

"Wait, I thought you said we were only here to watch!" Slambam accuses.

"Oh, right... I might have lied about that one. Don't worry, just keep your heads down and you should be fine." Zip Toad half-heartedly encourages. The heroes all sigh and step into the teleporter.

Dark Land Battleplex Arena

They stumble out from the bright light of the teleporter. All of them look around and see the stands filled to the brim with Koopas, Goombas, Piranha Plants, and other baddies, all cheering enthusiastically. Prex looks down at her hands for any sign of the disguise, but doesn't see anything. She looks over to Ash, who now has an extremely large pair of eyeglasses on, along with a comically oversized nose and mustache. "I knew it." She sighs.

"Alright ladies and gentlemen!" Zip Toad calls over the arena's speakers. "Are you ready to start the next round?" The crowd cheers even louder in response.

"Buck up, pardners. We got us a battle to win." Ninpire states, cracking his knuckles. The doors on the arena open up and a whole brigade of Charging Chucks storm out, decked out in their football pads and helmets.

"Let's welcome our next set of contestants." Zip Toad commentates as the Charging Chucks head straight for the heroes. "From absolutely nowhere in particular... Team... uh... Mysterioso! Yes, Team Mysterioso. Here to solve the mystery of winning the tournament. They definitely aren't here with any sort of ulterior motive or anything like that."
