you don't know true pain until you find out your psn name is the same name shared with some random chick who posts deep meaningful youtube comments and weird pictures on instagram and the name sucks ass anyway and psn doesn't allow name changes so you lose all your dlc and trophies just because you wanted a new name but you can't even play online anymore since you can't even join any matches without it failing since psn sucks too much for that too andsubgriojhikhbonikfasbjgeowhnddbaovibjsanSHDBSJDVBJDG

probably because steam, xbox live and other rbjgdonrgk do it, also with psn i know a lot of people chose their names years ago and really regret it. it's much different to forum username changes too, since there can be money involved if you bought dlc and other stuff you also lose all your trophies and even game saves. idk, it just really urks me that i didn't realize until it was too late about my name and now im stuck with it forever, but there's also the part i added to my first post that urks me as well about psn.
EDIT: also sorry for my rambling and weird grammar it's 2:18 am and i should really go to sleep now

Still, I've found that name changing features are often abused, and can make things confusing (like not knowing who's who after a bunch of people change their name).

I've always figured creating a username was like signing a contract. I suppose it would be nice to implement a "nickname" feature though, which lets your displayed name change, but your account name is different. I think this is possible on the PS4, though I could be wrong.
