3DS version has "better" parkour (you basically run straight along walls and stuff. It's essentially overpowered in the 3DS version, if you would prefer that to a slightly more realistic sense of momentum in the Wii U version's parkour. Sonic runs off of stamina when running along/scaling up walls, which can be strategically recharged. In the Wii U version, it's purely based on your momentum). And while running, Sonic's turning is quite wide at high speeds (where the Wii U version has much tighter turning). The levels on 3DS are much wider though, to compensate.

However, about halfway through the game, the 3DS version's levels suddenly start to turn into weird puzzle-platformer levels, that can take over 20 minutes to complete on your first playthrough, if you don't know what you are doing. I watched some of them, and they really look extremely anti-Sonic.

Also, Wisps are completely mandatory on 3DS (though they look like they may be utilised better than on the Wii U version). Some of them use tilt controls. And the Special Stages are COMPLETELY gyro controlled (have a swivel chair at the ready for these. And whatever you do, never play them in public. If you don't have a swivel chair, you will have to stand up and twist and turn and make yourself dizzy. And I'm not exaggerating, some people have really gotten dizzy on the later Special Stages! :V).

So yeah, people were really annoyed by how it turns into a weird puzzle platformer, with awkward design decisions. I don't know how bad it truly gets as I have not played the 3DS version, but what I saw made me raise an eyebrow.

However, I've heard the boss fights are better in the 3DS version. And the one major reason to get it over the Wii U version (and the main reason I want it, myself), would be the 4-player local, download play, AND online mulitplayer. The Wii U version only has 2-player local (it's really fun, but the problem is getting someone to play, let alone someone of your skill level).

I don't want to go saying the 3DS version has anything wrong with it until I play it for myself though, so take what I say with a pinch of salt.

For reference, here's one of those more "puzzle-y" levels I was talking about. This guy knew what he was doing, so it wasn't too long a run. But I watched this guy's blind stream of the game for a bit, and it took him a LONG time to beat this level.

Also, check out dat draw distance :V...

EDIT: Here's a very positive review of the 3DS version:

Sonic Generations was technically the sequel, indeed, but lost world seemed very specific to emphasizing a sequel.

You're right though. If they take the good aspects of the game and put them all together, people will finally get the perfect game they've been looking for.

So Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games *intensecoughing* came out yesterday in Europe, I believe, if anyone was interested in that.

Looks like fun, though apart from the Online Mode and some new events, as well as the "Action & Answer Tour", it doesn't look like it really adds anything to what the original Olympic Winter Games provided. In fact, it removed a lot of the stuff that made the original Wii game very fun even as a singleplayer game, for me (such as the secret missions you got in your in-game message box, like Blue Coin Hunting, and they unlocked cool stuff). The Legends Showdown is essentially the same as Festival Mode from the original game.

And I swear, if they aren't going to do a Mario & Sonic platformer/RPG, then they have to at least bring back the "Winter Adventures Tour" from the DS version of the original Winter Olympics in future Summer/Winter Olympics. That was the best thing to come from this series, and I actually thought it was a really good way to put the events into a fun, reasonably lengthy singleplayer experience that provided a lot of fan-service for Mario/Sonic fans. And mixing an RPG Adventure with a Winter Olympic event collection, with special missions to do in events, was actually really interesting and it worked well.

But hey, at least they added Doubles Figure Skating - we can finally see MarioxSonic action in an official Nintendo/Sega product. Not to mention BowserxEggman. :V

...And now I want to look up if they actually were nice enough to allow same sex pairings. :V

Shhhh...the yaoi fangirls will hear u.

All joking aside, yeah, I really want them to bring back the Winter Adventure tour. The Single player story mode for 2012 was extremely disappointing. And the fact that you couldn't make Sonic ride a horse, or do ballet, made me very, very sad for some reason. (<3ds, not wii.)

So one of my long term assignments in college is to create a 3D game in UDK (Unreal Development Kit). I wanted to make a small platform-adventure game, and I wrote up some ideas and concepts for it. Though, I'm honestly not sure about whether or not I would go through with it. It seems like something I should leave until I'm more experienced.

However, I was planning to use elements from Sonic GDK. And at the end of the class, the tutor said it's OK to make games based off of existing IPs for the project (essentially, a fan game). So I thought "...why don't I make a 3D Sonic fan game"?

Now, keep in mind this hasn't started yet. And I'm obviously only starting with UDK (though I find it easy to use so far, I think I could make nice enough looking environments already). But Sonic GDK is an excellent template for making a Sonic fan game (Sonic GDK is not a fan game, for those who aren't aware - it's a UDK package for making Sonic fan games).

I thought it would be good to ask you guys if there are any particular things you would like to see in a Sonic fan game. I'm not saying I'm going to make anything amazing, or particularly long. In fact, I most definitely won't. However, I would like to try make something that is at least a bit of fun, and looks nice. I'm really excited about this idea, and would love to hear from you guys about stuff I could do, such as level ideas, or what kind of gameplay style you would like (Classic, Adventure, Unleashed, and Colours gameplay styles are all possible in Sonic GDK. And of course, I could do something more unique if possible).

So if you guys have any ideas at all, no matter how confident you are in them, let me know either in this topic, or via PM. It love to hear your ideas!

---------------------

Also, the Elgato I ordered for my friend arrived today, and I tested it out. It works a charm. So, I was thinking on doing a playthrough of Sonic Lost World (Wii U), with commentary. Would you guys like to see that? And if ye would, is there anything in the game you would like to see me record and commentate besides the main story?

My commentary would aim for a balance between being informative and providing some fresh thoughts on the game, as well as just having a bit of fun and saying the odd silly thing!

Does anyone actually play online in the 3DS version? Because hardly anyone seems to talk about it. It's like, the main reason I want that version.

Also, I tried the 3DS demo. It was really fun, the first two levels are fine, at least. I wish the spin dash was mapped to the left trigger though, like the Wii U version.

The touchscreens are perfectly fine. I understand some people have a gripe with the principle of a virtual control pad, but as far as virtual control pads go, the ones in the Sonic games are perfectly responsive.

The only reason why these ports did not come out on consoles/PC yet is because they want to make sure all bugs have been ironed out through patches, and then release the fully patched versions on consoles. Sonic CD had this problem - it had a patch or two that only made it to the mobile versions because patching a game on a console is more expensive and awkward in general, and these guys don't have the same facilities as say, Sonic Team have (who made a fairly significant patch to the Wii U version of Lost World just today, actually - Lost World Wii U players may want to check it out).

If you really want to play with a controller now, just buy a mobile controller attachment for your phone, or even better, download Bluestacks - it's an Android emulator for PCs that can actually link to your Google Play account, so you can play Android games on your PC, but it's still legal as you still buy the games normally. It even supports proper HD resolutions, so don't worry about everything showing up all pixelated just because phones are smaller (I assume its the tablet versions of the games).

I just played that. Actually quite fun. The level design is very Yoshi's Island in terms of how everything is laid out, and made me realise that Sonic's 2D physics in this game feel very like Yoshi's Island. I was always trying to figure out what game it reminded me of.

Also, that stage is a complete 1-Up farm if you know where all of the Yoshi's are, and can get them all to the end.

Lookin' forward to the Zelda DLC!:

ZELDA DLC? Wait, they're doing a level based off of Zelda too?

Oh, and by the way, I'm not sure if anyone noticed: Getting 100 rings in a stage now gives you a 1up as it does in any other Sonic Game. Looks like "rings being completely pointless" is no longer a valid argument.

Yes, there is a Zelda level coming. Now I just need a Kirby and F-Zero level. And who wants to bet they will make a Mario Galaxy one, featuring Rosalina? :V

And yeah, that was part of the Version 3.0.0 update. Other changes include:

-You now start with 10 lives instead of 5 when you use a continue.
-With the exception of Rhythm and Underwater Drill, all Wisps can now be controlled with the left stick.
-The "Strobe Glitch" has been fixed.
-Items now appear on the World Map (I haven't come across any, maybe it doesn't apply to completed files).
-When DLC stages disappear, it now tells you that you have to score 100,000 points to bring them back (this has always been the method of doing this, but the game never informed you beforehand.

Awesome. Yeah Galaxy would be cool. I mean this game was made practically asking for that so, why not?

Well that's awesome. A lot of complaints were fixed. I love the modern day with video games. You can get a game and complete it but it's possible you still haven't seen the whole game due to new content or any fixes they make changes your opinion of the game if the way it was before had you complaining. It's really nice.
