Reaching level 15 [CLOSED]

Well my Kingdom is finally level 40, so I can actually clean it up and make it look somewhat presentable. Now I'm working on getting my Skylanders to level 15. I hear they need to have 175,000 hero points in order to reach maximum level, and I can't believe how slow this is going. The most hero points I can get in one go is 2,188 from an adventure airship and it's going sooo slowly.

Does anyone know how I can speed this up?

(Maybe they should release a companion who speeds up experience gain (for a reasonable price))

Only thing I can think of is getting Flynn to speed up the adventures... I'm currently saving gems for that.

Assuming you've got lots of characters you want to level up, your progress is limited to how many adventure airships you have. So the only viable alternative to Flynn is to buy more airships. It could simply be a race to see which goes on sale first. And there's an element of risk that if you blow your gems on one of those two options, you may kick yourself if locked houses are suddenly made available for a short time.

One mistake I've been making is trying to level up my normal skylanders. Once you've completed their level 5-8 quests, clicking on them is pretty much a waste of time. Your energy is better spent elsewhere.

I agree with Woz, only level up the ones that really give gold.
I am leveling up:
- Giants
- Both Hot Dogs
- Spyros
- Sidekicks
- Swap force

All the other can be left behind, and more given the enormous gap between level 14 and 15 (80.000 points!!), that will take months to reach there.

I'm reluctant to take my bonused skylanders out of their houses/sanctuaries to level them up. I am levelling up my bonused skylanders without houses and that aren't first in line for sanctuaries, but then I'll probably level up a bunch of regular skylanders to replace those in sanctuaries. I'm hoping the level 15 gold bonus is at least equal to the 10% level 12 bonus that certain special skylanders get. I'll then use those guys to fill sanctuaries while I level up the big bonused skylanders for the sanctuaries. All the while, the guys in houses/sanctuaries will at least be getting some exp so hopefully they'll be a little closer to levelling up by the time I get to them.

I don't have any tips besides the ones posted, but I wanted to jump in on this getting to lvl 15 post, as I am finding it slow - I thought getting to 12 was molasses but I'll never complain about that again.

You want scary? Think about the larger than 80,000 jumps that will be involved if they ever raise the cap beyond Level 15...

One positive note is that tomorrow, Super Tuesday will include 2x bonus on Hero XP.

That should help a little.

They need to have that on for a week or more to make even a dent in the 100 or so skylanders in my control!

Is there a bonus or benefit at level 15 I am missing? Otherwise just using the best skylanders (the ones with the bonuses) will get them to 15 eventually. The side benefit is you don't need to get worked up over the amount of time it takes to get there.

I fear if you set getting characters to level 15 as your major goal, you will just end up frustrated and burned out.

I'll try to explain how you can approach leveling to 15.

Firstly, as mentioned:

1) Flynn will reduce adventure times by 25-50%.
2) airships increase xp by 25% (I think)

Now how to choose the best adventures to take:

1) if you have unlimited time when you get to level 13 you unlock a 15 min adventure. Running this adventure 10-15 times a day for a three weeks I think can get you to level 15. Time will be reduced if you get any of the two mentioned above.

2) if you don't have a lot of time (maybe can only check in every 2-4 hrs a day), prepare for a month or more. Typically, the greater the length of time in adventures the smaller the exp

You just have to keep going. And don't worry about getting to level 15 because you getting nothing special for this feat as of yet.

In this way so I'm pretty well

First advice: take it easy.......

Second tip: I don't have Cali, nor Flynn nor Arbo and Old Mac, nor ships of adventure and I only have 6 radiating fields, so i don't have too much energy or time, so I do the following: I always put the sanctuary's day element with normal skylanders, and if I have enough energy i put more sancturies (always with normal skylanders). I put adventures balloons with special skylanders (sideckick, specials, giants and skylander with fans), always leaving a free balloon for day element skylanders. So the normal skylanders are getting points, and with specials, I'm getting extra gold.

It is clear that, as the special skylanders work more, all of them are at level 13.

Tomorrow Super Tuesday (with the 2x hero XP bonus): I will use only normal skylanders (none special) so they will advance tomorrow so the special skylanders will advance the other day.

I have gotten a roll .... , I hope to provide something

Every level increased through 12 at least nets more gold in the sanctuary. I think the base gold for the first skylander in the sanctuary is 18,000 (but I'll have to check later this evening when my sanctuaries free up) but a level 12 skylander will get 21,960 gold. I'm hoping the trend continues for levels 13-15. At 21,960, gold, plus the possibility of stones or gems, it costs more money in energy than regular level 12 skylanders will net you if put in the 2nd or 3rd position in a sanctuary. At level 15, they may generate enough gold that this is no longer the case.

I would never put a less than level 12 skylander in a sanctuary unless it was in the first position and was the ONLY skylander I put in that sanctuary (I always put the highest bonused skylander in the first position to guarantee that skylander generates gold). So pulling all of my bonused skylanders out of sanctuaries to level them up for a month makes the sanctuaries pretty worthless for that month and makes giant/alter ego/mini houses completely worthless (except where there's more than one that can go in the house, of course).

That's why I want to level some regular skylanders up to 15 and hope they generate more than 21960 gold in the sanctuary so I can pull the bonused guys out to level them up without making my sanctuaries a waste of time.

Midas, interesting info. Re: regular skylanders in 2nd/3rd sanctuary positions.

I wonder how using only Radiating Fields changes the math. I bought myself a ton one day when they were 75% off. My other source of energy is houses which is free and a significant source of energy. This really messes up the math.

Charred--you're right. If you're using lots of radiant fields (or Ol' Mac), the energy costs go down on a per unit basis and all skylanders become either profitable or more profitable in sanctuaries.

I will keep working all skylanders to lvl 15 because I am a lemming. Level 15 is "worth it" as much as level 2 is "worth it." This is a pointless game that has caused me to tap tap tap millions of times. So much wasted time!!

And yet... I will probably have a not too small measure of satisfaction when I get my first skylander to lvl 15. I'm an idiot and I don't care.

Great post Ryans18! I can't believe people are complaining about the grind it will take to get to 15. That is all this game is (and I am not saying this negatively). I too have tapped millions of times and I plan to keep on. I am glad the devs made the upper levels challenging because at the upper levels, you need a freakin challenge!

This is from a different thread but I am too lazy to track it down...Woz, I don't know about your football (ahem soccer) skills but I don't think you are a whiner. Keep on posting!

Just remembered molekin mountain gives 60xp every 3 mins. So that's 1200xp an hour if your willing to tap and you skylanders are past level 10. I do this when I watch tv at night to grab a "boost". Not fun, but I believe it's the fastest way to earn XP.

The winger reference was a nod to Australian Rules Football. The flanks on an Australian Football Ground are called wings. Soccer's that game people call exciting when it doesn't end in a nil-all draw...

For our American friends, what's the difference between American football and Australian football? In America players wear protective clothing and helmets. Not sure if that means Australian players are braver or just dumber.

Personally, I think it is us that's dumber (or more potential for being dumb). Having protective gear can give false sense of security and result in more reckless play. Entertaining, yes, but I actually enjoyed watching Australian rules football when I got the chance.

It's interesting the different motives we all have for playing this tap, tap, tap game. For me, my autistic son started playing the game, couldn't quite manage it, but insisted that I play it for him. At the same time, my brother passed away in a hang gliding accident. There's a multitude of ways to deal with grief, but I chose playing this game as a way to pass many long nights when I just couldn't sleep. Now, five months later, I probably don't need the 'therapy' anymore, and am playing more out of habit.

I expected that like Space City, this game would have been retired by now. But it's still going, and so am I, so I continue to tap away.

Open question to all: What's your motive for playing Lost Islands?

For me its two fold. I have pretty heavily invested in the physical figures so anything that helps me get more use out of them is a bonus. The other is its a great way to kill time. I can pop in for 10 to 20 minutes when I get bored click a bunch of things and feel like I made progress.

I also have a bit of a need to collect things. I always wanted to play Pokemon but felt like I was so far behind trying to catch up the Pokedex. For once I am ahead of the curve when it comes to a game like this. It's rewarding (thats not the word I really want to use) to be 'current' with a game for once.

/whine on

The sad part is the longer it takes to get my game back up and running the easier it is to not get started again. With all the effort I've put in to keep 'current' in the game I'm going to be really frustrated if I lose out of Cynder's house because Activision has me 'on the list' to get fixed a full 3 weeks after I reported the problem.

/whine off

**EDIT**

I forgot to add another reason I play. Today when doing my daily test to see if they fixed me the game actually loaded without crashing. I was pretty excited to get back after it. That was until I exited the game and realized that my wireless network was down after screwing around in my home lab and I loaded the local save. I guess the game makes a halfway decent tool for validating the state of a wireless network.

Yes it is a way to pass the time, it's "downtime" for me quite often after a crazy day at work. I love this app. I really enjoy the characters and enjoy creating the look of my islands and having the ability to change them when and how I want. It also gives me pleasure to share tips of the game with my daughter who is away at school. It's fun to look forward to daily deals, super Tuesdays and big weekend sales (can't wait for U.S. Thanksgiving!) I especially like checking in to this forum to see what people have to say. Thanks all for great tips and fun info. Am I a geek or what? Have a nice day all.

I got into this game because I bought the toys/console game for my kids and initially thought my kids would like to play this. They didn't get into it but I did initially through playing with them. Honestly, I think I've stuck around because of this community of like-minded addicts. Also, the developers have deftly and continuously added content and improvements along the way which has kept me engaged. Of course, they have caused some serious bumps along the way too, but overall they're doing their job of keeping me hooked very, very well.
