Guys, I KNOW THE ANSWER TO THIS!

In the first epiode, at the end, you see a sillhoute of a bird pokemon flying across a rainbow. This bird is nearly identical to Ho-Oh, and here is its dex entry in one of the games: When it flies by, people can wish upon it and their wishes will come true (Not exact words, but that's what it was saying) Ash wished to be forever a child.
