That would've been easy to edit, as 4Kids is known to due to their stuff. The problem is that guns are used so much that it would be difficult to edit them out and keep the episode the same. So rather than trying and inevitably failing to edit them out, they just banned it.


I've read that there were plans to edit the Porygon episode to remove the flashing colors, and supposedly it was dubbed or at least was going to be, yet due to all the problems caused by it, it just ended up banned.
