You guys realise it's a pre-order bonus though, right? It doesn't cost you anything extra. Pre-order deposits come off of the game's full price.

And you get the Deadly Six Edition regardless of where you pre-order. These ones are just to give you something extra in certain retailers.

If you're living near the UK, or within it, I would recommend buying this in ShopTo. They have the best pre-orders bonuses for this game, and are selling it at the cheapest price. And UK customers have the possibility of getting the game 2 days before the official release due to their shipping policies.

It DOES remind me of Return to Dreamland now that I listen closely. o.0 Although this is probably one of the most lighthearted pieces of Sonic music I've ever heard. I'm so glad they're really moving away from all the hard, grungy rock and embracing this upbeat, orchestral, jazzy/electronic style like in Unleashed and Colors.

I'm personally a fan of both the more happy Sonic tunes and the more edgy ones. Sonic & the Black Knight had an amazing rock based soundtrack (along with some hearty Celtic influence, which I love).

Well I do like rock and roll music, and have a decent number of rock tunes in my iTunes, but for some reason I just really can't stand most Sonic rock music. Adventure 2 and Shadow the Hedgehog's soundtracks were not particularly enjoyable... except the Knuckles raps. Those were BOSS. <.<;

Sonic Adventure 2's soundtrack isn't my favourite in the franchise, though it does have some stand out tunes. Live & Learn and Escape from the City being the obvious ones.
And yeah, the Knuckles raps. smilie

As for Shadow, again, not my favourite, but it has two of my favourite Sonic tracks (Sky Troops, which feels so vast, and Lost Impact, which is simply a beautiful piano piece). And the lyrical themes are catchy too.

Don't forget Kirby as player 4. smilie

I think it's safe to say Sonic will be a mainstay in future games now. And unless we get a Namco character, there won't be another third party character for Smash 4.

The Lost World Stage also looks cool, looks like a more expansive home turf for Sonic than Green Hill was in Brawl.

I think his height helps him be more distinguished. I don't feel every character needs the same build as Sonic, I think it's interesting that they are being more creative.

You can also notice subtle changes on the other characters. For example, it looks like Sonic may be wearing a sleeveless jacket, Marty McFly style. smilie

I thought Colours had a fine script, and I didn't mind it's comedy (quite liked it actually, and it's quite quotable), though I am not of the stance that Sonic stories should never touch on deeper themes and morals ever again. Lost World looks like it's at least adding a bit more depth so far.
It's just that after Unleashed and Black Knight, and even some past games, I would kind of miss the more heartfelt and sometimes heavy presence of those games. I wouldn't want every game to be comedy, as that would go against what Sonic, as a franchise, has always stood for.

As for the writers of Sonic Boom, no word on that I believe.
Here's the full PR post from Sega Blog:

Quote:
Sonic the Hedgehog, the iconic video game character who has brought his trademark speed and attitude to four TV series and more than 70 video games, is returning to television in his first-ever CG animated series in the fall 2014. The action packed comedy series aimed at children 6-11 will debut first on Cartoon Network in the U.S. and on CANAL J and GULLI in France, with a global rollout to follow. The initial order of 52 eleven-minute episodes is co-produced by SEGA of America Inc. and Genao Productions.

Sonic Boom is a character-driven comedy that leaves a trail of robot wreckage in its smoldering wake. The series centers on Sonic, his best friend and sidekick, Tails, their never-ending search for adventure, and their battles with Sonic’s arch-nemesis, Dr. Eggman. Rounding out the ensemble are fan favorites Knuckles and Amy Rose, plus a rogue’s gallery of enemies—some familiar to Sonic fans and some brand-new.

Evan Baily, Donna Friedman Meir, and Jane McGregor, Executive Producers for SEGA, packaged the series, bringing together SEGA, Cartoon Network, and Genao Productions. Sandrine Nguyen and Boris Hertzog, Executive Producers for Genao, assembled a world-class lineup of partners in France, including broadcasters GULLI and CANAL J, Lagardere Entertainment Rights and Lagardère Active TV Licensing & New Business. Baily, Meir and Nguyen developed the series, and Hertzog and McGregor structured the financing and negotiated all the deals. Baily (formerly EVP of Production and Creative Affairs for Classic Media) and Co-Executive Producer Bill Freiberger (The Simpsons, Drawn Together) are showrunners. Takashi Iizuka, the head of Sonic Team and driving creative force behind the Sonic games, is overseeing the series to ensure that it’s true to the Sonic characters and universe.

“Sonic is the star of the SEGA universe and the stage is now set for him to shine like never before. By teaming up with world-class partners in television animation like Cartoon Network, Genao Productions and GULLI, we’re ensuring that the Sonic legacy will be introduced to a new generation of children across the globe,” said Hiroyuki Miyazaki, SEGA’s Chief Content Officer for Sonic.

“We wanted to strengthen our TV channels’ editorial content with strong brands. This is our new objective. Sonic is an enormously popular and unique character with all the qualities of an animation series’ great hero—humor, bravery, loyalty, inventiveness. We are extremely proud to welcome him across our kids and family channels at Lagardère Active and will activate across these channels to raise awareness and excitement for the new series,” said Caroline Cochaux, Head of Programs, Kids & Family Channels, Lagardère Active.

“Genao is thrilled to collaborate with SEGA on this amazing project and embark on new adventures with the fastest hedgehog in the world. It is so exciting to work on such a world-class brand,” said Sandrine Nguyen, Managing Director of Genao.

Emmanuelle Bouilhaguet, Managing Director of Lagardere Entertainment Rights added “It is an amazing experience to be associated to such a powerful property with professional partners. International broadcasters are seeking for strong comedy and franchise based series and Sonic Boom is the perfect fit!”

“On the New Business & Licensing Side, we are proud and excited to handle the representation of Sonic which counts among the leading characters loved by kids. Thanks to our 360° platform which includes Digital Activities, Magazines, Indoor Parks, Grass Root events, we will push Sonic and the Consumer Products to a new level,” said Benoit Roque, Head of Lagardere Active TV Licensing & New Business.

SEGA is actively seeking partners in support of the new series launch across a range of industries including broadcast and licensing. In terms of television and digital distribution, Lagardere Entertainment Rights holds worldwide rights excluding the U.S. and Asia (but including Japan); SEGA Corporation will manage Asia (excluding Japan); Baily, Meir and McGregor will manage the US through McGregor’s company Jane McGregor, Inc. Licensing support will be spearheaded by Lagardère Active TV Licensing & New Business in France and SEGA in all other territories.

Sonic the Hedgehog first appeared as a videogame character in June 1991 and instantly became an icon for a generation of gamers. Defined by his super-fast speed and cool attitude, in the years since he first raced on to videogame consoles Sonic has become a true global phenomenon with over 140 million videogames sold or downloaded worldwide across consoles, PC’s, mobile phones and tablets. SEGA’s iconic blue blur has also gone on to enjoy incredible success in many licensed areas, such as toys, apparel, comics and animation. This year SEGA announced an exciting three title exclusive partnership with Nintendo for the Sonic the Hedgehog videogame franchise. The highly anticipated Sonic Lost World™ will be the first title to launch under this agreement and will be available in stores later this year for Wii U™ and Nintendo 3DS™ platforms.

Interesting. Yeah, I don't quite think it closes the debate. But it's neat. Also, I always found it strange that both of the levels that represented Sonic 3 & Knuckles in Generations were from the Sonic & Knuckles half of the pack. Yeah, Sky Sanctuary and Death Egg always stick out to me, but overall I thought the levels from the the Sonic 3 half left more of a lasting impression, and I honestly thought one would make it into the 3DS version. Maybe they couldn't do that because of Jackson's involvement and all the legal issues that could bring up. I know SEGA doesn't like reusing tracks from Sonic 1 & 2 because they have to pay Masato Nakamura for the rights...

Meh, I'm just rambling at this point. @.@

Well, in the 3DS version of Generations, you fight Big Arms, the final boss of Sonic 3. And there is a (insanely awesome) remix of it's theme. Admittedly, though, the original song doesn't sound like something Micheal Jackson would put together.

And Jun Senoue did a remix of Angel Island Zone for Super Smash Bros. Brawl without any issues. Though the original DOES sound like something Jackson might put together.

This leads me to believe that it's not possible that the late Micheal Jackson could of worked solely on every song. But at the same time, if Jackson did want himself discredited for the music, that would explain how they could use any music he composed for the game without any problems, including for future remixes.

Though I have to wonder why this is such a big issue. Why all the secrecy over this? Why did that "conclusive" source have to remain anonymous? Why did Brad Baxter (I probably got that wrong, didn't I?) have to decline an interview for "personal reasons"? It's all very shady. Somewhat eerie, even.

All of this over the music for a game about a little blue hedgehog who goes fast. :I

It's mystical. Also, there's a TON of people who ended up contributing to the Sonic 3 half of Sonic 3 & Knuckles. From what I understand, Howard Drossin handled the entire Knuckles half (and I know that his theme for Sonic & Knuckles and the mid-zone boss theme he composed shows up in the Sonic 3 half instead of the Sonic 3 main theme and act 1 boss music if you use the LOCK ON TECHNOLOGY) and I think Jun Senoue did the "act clear" music which has shown in up in every game he's composed for except Shadow the Hedgehog.

But, aside from Brad Buxer, the other people were Bobby Brooks, Darryl Ross, Geoff Grace, Doug Grigsby III, and Scirocco Jones. Aside from Buxer and Jones, I've never heard of any of these guys. It almost makes me think they kind of went around Sega Technical Institute or other development studios in the area to ask if anyone could contribute. Sonic 3 came after Sonic CD, so I kind of wonder why they didn't ask Spencer Nielsen and David Young to at least give music composition a try on the Genesis. <.<;
