I am thinking about buying...but... I do not know how long it would take to recoup the 150 gems it takes to buy him... Thoughts?

I also got him right away. Just for the joyfull feeling of receiving a gem where I didn't get one before.
It probably wears off over time but by then I will already have forgotten how many gems I have spend on him. smilie

And the earlier you get him the earlier you can get your gems back.
If you don't buy him you will regret the lost gems with every chest you open smilie

My theory is that if you have Capybara, then it reduces the chance of a chest appearing. Capybara = less chests. Only because that's what happened with whatever I bought that made the totems appear less often, and when I got Brock I seemed to get less gold chests.
For those that have Capybara, are you still getting chests at the same rate as before?

I've seen no reduction in the number of chests.

You're a glass half empty kind of girl, aren't you? Yes, that's me poking my tongue out at you. Hope he wind doesn't change. I'm ugly enough as it is.

I thought like those above that it was a no-brainer, just like Hyde and Cape Girl. You'll eventually recoup all the gems you spend on them, so the sooner you get started recouping, the better. But yes, if he goes on sale within say 7-8 days, you might have lost a few gems. I say 7-8 days because I average about 10 chests a day, so that's how long it takes me to get him 50 per cent paid off (matching the best discount you're likely to get).

When the glass is half empty I just add more wine...

(And what would be really poetic would be to spell that as 'whine')

I get about 4-5 a day. I have 12 chests saved up. I want to save them so I can recover the gems quickly. Does hoarding my chests prevent new ones from appearing?

I'm pretty sure the frequency is aided by how often you check in. I check in VERY often, mainly because more than half of the elements are offering me three wishstones each hour. I'm certainly not suggesting that everyone has the leisure to check for new mobs quite so often. I also think I read someone who time travelled saying next week there'll be a special day where every mob generates a chest. If that's true, that could be an awful lot of gems in one day. I don't think I'll be putting any giants in sanctuaries on that day.

Wait. I knew there was something not quite right about that figure. That should have read "an average of 10 GEMS each day FROM chests". That's better. I probably get three gold chests per two days. At 4 gems now per gold chest with Capy...

Just FYI, I read that this coming Tuesday will be much more super if you have this new companion. What I read was a guaranteed chest for any mob being destroyed (meaning sheep/troll/pod will 100% produce a 1 or4 gem chest). I'm assuming time travel so I guess it could change but I'm going to start saving mobs for next Tuesday.

I was ready to buy him but debated when someone brought up the idea of him going on sale. Knowing that Cape Girl went on sale within a week, I time traveled ahead to Tuesday and saw the event where all mobs produce chests, so I've been saving up my mobs and purchased Capybara. Now I just have to decide if I want to clear out all my mobs since I've been trying to save a few for potential quests and with the theory that they spawn more. I guess I can just start my mob collection over.

The new Capy quest (with a radiant field as a reward) is interesting. I think radiant fields are worth 49 gems (i.e. when they are on sale). I almost bought one today (since they are on sale). Now I might buy Capy for tomorrow and get the field as a reward any way. That's like buying Capy for 101 gems and a radiant field for 49. Worth it, I think.

I did too. Assuming the gold chests don't evaporate at midnight or anything, I should collect around 45 gems from chests today (I got a whole bunch of gold chests). With that and the radiant field from the easily winnable quest, Capy is quickly paying for himself.

Worth it? That's an understatement. If Capy was 500 gems I'd still buy him.

You crazy! smilie At 500 gems, it would take forever to recoup your investment!
