My daughter and I have played Skylanders Lost Islands since the day it hit the App Store. And when they finally introduced the social aspect we were excited for the new experience that it brought to the game. The ability to visit every friend for 3 chances to earn gems was great. But, what was extremely annoying was that you would spend the time (and with a lot of friends it can get extremely time consuming visiting every one of them) and then the game would crash and you would lose any progress (including gems earned) that you had made.

Now, since the social aspect came to the game, this is the one thing that activision has not addressed or fixed. I thought with the social overhaul it would have fixed the issue, but nope, again, we can visit 10 or so friends, collect 30 kudos, then the game crashes and we lose all the kudos collected. What a waste of time (and it's not like it instantly transitions from friend to friend quickly, it takes loading in between).

So, it is going to take a really long time to earn 2000 kudos to earn Admiral Thumpback doing it only through gifts. I just don't see the point in visiting friends only to have all that time wasted.

Kind of an epic fail on activisions part.......

Are you connected via wifi or over a cell connection?

The ipad is wifi only.

I was trying to visit last night and earn kudos as well. But I keep getting kicked back to my island as well. It happens very frequently. I started keeping track and I couldn't get passed 3 visits before getting kicked.

If this is what we have to do to earn kudos, OK, but, its got to work...

You still get the random gems to pop randomly while collecting kudos from houses. Same drop rate (or less depending on how unlucky you are) as before. I've also had a lot more luck following someone's advice from here about using 4g vs wifi. Currently I can't collect anything over wifi. If I turn it off and switch to 4g, I still get the occasional error but it's more like 1 in 8 to 10. I know this won't help if you're wifi only I've also noticed it tended to be when I visit certain people's islands, but I haven't started keeping track.

I guess I had been lucky until now. Mine has started sending me back to my island every time I try to visit to collect Kudos. This started after I spent Kudos to buy Admiral Thumpback. Don't know if that had anything to do with the problem. I can still gift and collect gifts for now. I will just wait awhile and try later tonight.

Does anyone have an idea on why this is occurring? I just visited 51 of my friends, of those, 22 gave an error. I wrote down the names of those that gave an error, and I will try again later. If they all still error out, my guess is that I should remove those friends and gamble on getting better more stable ones ;-). Has anyone tested like this to see if the error is dependent on which friends, or your connection, or some other variable?

Yes, I have tried, and for me it is not specific to a friend. I've had it happen to friends I've successfully visited in the past, and also been able to visit friends it failed on previously.

After the latest update 1.6.0 (351154+356233), i have had only visited 1 friend successfully.. For the rest of my friends they all showed an error occurred..

After the update and reading about many of the issues I resisted using the new social updates. I just started visiting again, but I'm crashing after two or three visits. It's a waste of time.

Anyone with ios7 crashing with visits? I'm still ios6.

I'm running ios7 already and i'm having the same issue. I think this has something to do with the game update itself not with ios..

Because of all the crashing issues, I now try and just visit two friends at a time before going back to my island. It takes so much longer, but I have found slightly better success with this tactic.

For data collection purposes, I connect via wifi, I am on ios6, and it doesn't matter what friend I visit.

I thought it was related to which friend you went to. I remember when we had this issue a while back and it did seem to kick me out on the same friends (although I didn't fully document it). I'm kind of doubting it, now, though, after reading other's posts.

I try to visit other islands periodically, but the minute I get the "An error occurred trying to visit your friend. Please try again later" error, I stop. It seems that once I get the error, every single visit afterwards will error out also. All errors seem to be completely random players. I have yet to be able to visit more than 5 islands in a row before I get the error. Honestly, it is not worth it to me for 1 kudo and I have pretty much decided not to even try any more. I had fun playing the game before kudos, and am sure I will have fun playing the game without them. (For those who are interested, my iPad is wifi only and is running ios6. [too many of my apps don't run on ios7 yet, sadly.])

That seemed to be my case, this morning. I was doing good, then suddenly I started getting errors. I tried 2 or 3 more and it was the same thing. I think that as long as you don't pick up all the kudos, then it shouldn't be marked as visited. The icon for whether you visited or not has a "3" on it, so it obviously knows how many kudos you have left. It's still a pain when it kicks you out, but not letting you go back and get the kudos makes it even worse. Although I've tried to revisit just to see if the kudos might still be there, and I get kicked out, again, so they just might still be there. Has anyone else tried that?

I am having the same issue now also. It just started today. Saying an error has occurred and kicks me out of the game. Ugh!!

Same problem here. It crashes when I press on the Activate button or try to visit people on the friend list. And yeah, no progress is being saved at all - online and offline.

iPad (3rd), iOS 7.0, version 1.6.0

I had the same problem, getting kicked out of the game everytime it tried to save. I've reported the problem to Activate (by phone & facebook) but I'm still waiting to hear an answer. Luckily for me I had an older saved game on another device, so I used that game. So far so good. I lost some progress, but at least I was able to play and exceed the progress I made since its been several days and I'm still waiting to find out what happened.

Once a day, I will back up my game on a second device as a precaution.

This is so frustrating! I can only visit a could of friends a day because my game keeps crashing and I'm missing out on collecting kudos

For now I've given up on visiting, too many crashes, no where near as many gems as it used to be and I have admiral, so, I'll build up from gifting alone for now.

I think I will stop visiting til they address the visiting issue. I will still send my friends gifts.

Yes, visiting has become tedious with the game crashing every third visit. I gift daily but only visit a few friends a day now.

Some of the friends that I can't visit my son can. I've even tried deleting and reading some of the ones that I repeatedly get errors for but they still don't work. I would estimate I can't visit a third of my friends.

I am curious... I can no longer visit you (not once since the update), can you visit me? I was always able to visit you before the update.

Anyone else not able to visit other islands today? Anyone I try to visit sends me to the home screen. Doesn't remove the kudos counter. I have been trying dire rent islands for the past 3 hours.

It is no coincidence that the visits are bugged and not working at the same time server saves are also all messed up.

So today I was trying to visit friends and among the many errors I got this:

That happened to me one day too, with Jess. I figured that the person had just gotten her. It was very strange though.

I get that screen and a few others like it as well.

I have this one person on my list, "diosAchilleus" that always shows that the visits are available. However, when you visit him, all his buildings bounce up and down, there are no kudos to be found and the message "All set here" is up.

I've just learned not to visit him.

Well I have had no crashes today, just error message. Luck seems to be with me today. I visited 90 islands so far today. Only 21 error messages. Collected 5 gems. The gem count is not as good as before the change. The difference between tody nod the days before is that I visit your island before I send or receive. I have no idea if that has made a difference only time will tell. Good luck to everyone else.

What iOS are you guys using

I am on a IPad with ISO 6 haven't upgraded yet. I keep reading about iCloud problems. Do we have to back up manually now to iCloud? I haven't done it since the update. Would appreciate any imput. Thank everyone for all the information.

I have iOS 7 on my phone. Boomshackalacka has iOS 7 on his phone. We both use wifi and 4g.
Jacksontreerex has an older itouch with ios6 I guess because this is the first iOS update he couldn't do. Jacksontreerex can visit Woz, but I can not. I can not visit wkgrandma, but I will have to check if Jacksontreerex can I haven't noticed if they are friends.

No we aren't but please send an invite and I will accept.

Did anyone ever recover from the "crash on save" problem? I'm getting it too.
