I know that My praises were making you unhappy, but it could help you in the future. But mocking 9/11 will only make those victims feel worse about themselves, and make them rather angry in a bad way. It also doesn't help them in the future, and nor will it help them help others feel better in the future. So maybe next time you will think about those that have experienced the tragedy. Also I've been in that area back in 2004 and saw the aftermath, And I bet some others experienced it as well, so don't lie.

People make jokes about the civil war and that was hundreds of times more bloody and violent than 9/11. The only reason why jokes based on 9/11 aren't accepted now is because it's a recent event.

He clearly stated that 9/11 is "a recent event". The thing about the American Civil War was just an example and had nothing to do with that statement. Anyhow, it doesn't really matter. I agree with what he was trying to say. 9/11 was a sigle terrorist attack which resulted in some 2000 human casualties. The atomic bombing of Nagasaki cost 80,000 lives, and that too was an act of terrorism. Double that for Hiroshima. All I've heard from American patriots when these incidents are mentioned is: "Ehehehaha those japs sure got what was coming for them." |

And there's people still alive from WWII and people still joke about WWII. This is honestly what mystifys me. In 50-70 years from now, you'll see lots of people joking about 9/11. And if you don't see my point, i'm not saying 9/11 jokes should be made, it's just that there'll be hundreds of 9/11 jokes in the next few generations.

Also, 9/11 was 1 sided. They attacked the U.S fair and square. |

Idk how to double quote, so Morris, well, the U.S. killed Osama, but they did nothing else.
MH, I agree, again, there will be jokes in the future, If the toddlers of today make a 9/11 movie in 40 years, that will just be twisted and sick and cruel. Oops, typo on prev. post. |

A prayer is not needed to pay service.
Quote: Samius
Recent enough. People that live today were (for the most part obviously) alive when it happened, and therefore find it in bad taste to joke about it. Chances are it was bad taste to joke about Pearl Harbor at the time too. Quote: Samius
That was not an act of terrorism, but an act of war. A war that was going on for several years and was going to continue if they didn't drop the bombs. Were they right in doing so? Of course not. But it was a quick way to end a war that was going to cost many more lives. And the creation of nuclear weapons has indirectly saved MILLIONS more (I can make a thread if people want an explanation to that). |

I guess that largely depends on your point of view. Remember the Indian Ocean Tsunami in 2004? 300,000 dead. Not much in the way of global remembrance when compared to 9/11. Don't get me wrong, I still don't approve of punching jokes about the attack, but I also don't think of it as all that recent. Quote: CAV
Terrorism means the deliberate use of terror or violence to coerce or otherwise influence your victims. The atomic bombings weren't meant to "quickly reach a decicive military victory". Two weapons of mass destruction were deliberately targeted at non-combatants. Not military bases, factories, airfields, harbors or other points of military interest, but two of the most heavily populated areas of Japan. Masses of innocent civilians. All on purpose. The point of these attacks was to simply build up a massive bodycount to scare the japanese into surrendering. That is terrorism at it's finest, no matter the reasons. And thanks, but you needen't bother. I'm rather familiar with the subject and my standing towards nuclear weapons in general was not in question here. |

they also wanted to test to powers of the nuclear bomb so they picked a city that was hardly untouched by the war and see what there creation can do... |

These random islands and deserts didn't have people living on them. There was no way to observe what the heat and the radiation fallout would do to a person, and how the blast would affect heavily populated areas, mainly buildings, in a larger scale. This could be compared to something as mundane as running five miles on a treadmill to see if you can handle it, and then running five miles for real. The effects are not identical. |

Defintley see where you're coming from here. I don't ever think though they'd ever throw a nuclear bomb on a city just to test how powerful it is though.

yes they knew how powerful it was going to be. but they wanted to see what would happen to peoples body and how a city would react afterwards....no random island or desert can give you that :/ |
