I don't have any details or first-hand knowledge about this, but I can say that there have been rumors of such a program at GameStop for quite a while ... and nothing has materialized.

I wouldn't hold your breath.

Gamestop first teased their "Skylanders Loyalty Program" back when they were advertising their "Skylanders Ultimate Festival".

Based on how their "Ultimate Festival" turned out I'm sure I won't be the only portalmaster who turns up their nose at the opportunity to give more business to Gamestop.

1. They barely get shipments.

2. They don't get variants, the shipping company removes them from the boxes.

3. Some employees are rude and pretty much clueless.

Honestly as a former manager of Gamestop, they are simply not setup to handle Skylanders.

All restock is based on sales and sku's, if they sell out or are low enough they will get a restock. However that restock is usually loose skylanders thrown inside a bigger box with other products. Since Skylanders have the same sku from the same set it's pretty much random what they get. Eventually the ones people don't want build up and the restock stops coming.

There is also the issue that Skylanders are small and have a high theft rate. If Managers don't adjust for theft the computers think the toys are still in stock and therefore no restock.

And finally...most employees know about Skylanders and variants that do show up probably never make it to the shelves sadly.

I consider myself a well informed gamer. I don't expect Gamestop employees to have that same level of knowledge. But I also don't expect them to outright lie to customers (on multiple occasions and at multiple locations) that a certain title is completely sold out everywhere in a 50 mile radius and their only option is to buy a point card from Gamestop and to buy the game via digital distribution. I chalk that right up there with Gamestop's other deceptive practices which also include reprinting highly sought after games, removing the shrinkwrap, just to sell them at jacked up "used" prices.

My distaste for Gamestop goes well beyond my trying to buy Skylanders from them.

It really depends on the people, not gamestop itself. I got one down the street from me that tries to be as well informed as possible and other days he just doesn't know. Go to other locations and get the same response. Most of them are friendly and helpful while some are as dry as mud on a 110 degree day. But that happens everywhere that's retail. After a while you know who to talk to about some games and others to steer clear from

I find gamestop to be pretty friendly and most of the employees are well informed on games. It's ridiculous though to expect employees to know everything about every game. Mixing up disney infinity and swap-force seems like an honest mistake if that employee hasnt played skylanders or has any interest in it. When ever i have a question about a game i always ask if the employee has tried it out. Only issue i have had with a couple are a few plain lies like when they tried to tell my girlfriend that nintendo was only making so many Pokemon X and Y games and that they could only preorder a set amount, they were obviously trying to pressure her into pre-ordering right there and then

I don't have a lot of problems with most of the store employees. A lot of the hate towards Gamestop is what the upper management does and if you look at the recent skylanders festival, that is all you really have to look at why people hate gamestop.

Agreed!

I really do not believe that most of the angst directed toward GameStop in the Skylanders community has much (if anything?) to do with the local store employees. It's their corporate policies and apparent lack of cohesive/consistent distribution, marketing, communication, and/or integrity from the corporate level. There are a few very solid reasons why Skylanders fans dislike and/or distrust GameStop, in general, and really nothing has to do with the store employees:

1. False advertising and "bait and switch" marketing tactics during the recent (LoL) Skylanders "Festival" when Polar Whirlwind was unveiled to USA consumers.
2. Shady distribution tactics, wherein GameStop regional centers open cases of Skylanders they receive from Activision, and remove all (or most) "chase" variants prior to shipping-out to GameStop storefront locations. It is presumed (and probably very accurate) that GameStop then "bundles" the chase variant Skylanders they find, and sells them for inflated prices, only from their website.
3. Inefficient re-stocking of characters -- GameStop's inventory system doesn't recognize the need to order more fresh stock to the store in a timely fashion.
4. Over-pricing exclusive figures -- GameStop added an extra dollar to the retail prices for Scarlet Ninjini and Polar Whirlwind ... the other "big box" retailers don't do that with their exclusive variants.

And if GameStop ends up refusing to honor the $10 off coupon for the Swap Force starter packs, then that will put the frosting on the cake, at least for me, and I would then officially be finished with GameStop permanently, no matter what exclusive items they might receive in the future.

It really all comes down to the individual employee. Most are into games, just not necessarily in the same genre.

That girl that can't help you with Polar Whirlwind might be a Pokemon encyclopedia or Nintendo guru.

One employee may be a Skylander fanatic and the next may not care, but could be a great asset for first person shooters etc. There crowds are usually small and even when they don't know much, they usually make an attempt to help you out.

Some of their stuff, like the Xenoblade issue is pretty bad, but again...that is at the corporate level, not the local folks.

As for the Loyalty Program deal it was touted prior to the Skylander day others mentioned and I haven't heard jack since...I'm thinking it would be along the line of earning points for set $ of pre-orders or Skylander specific purchases. Hopefully it pans out as it is always welcome to get something back for the investment we all make in the hobby, lol.

Haseo I will try and keep this short as to what they did,

1. Gamestop had sent out saying that if you purchased ANY Skylander Giants figure that you would get a free sidekick. Then on the morning of the event they sent out an email stating that they would only give it if you purchased an actual Giant (14.99), most stores from what I saw didn't have sidekicks on the day of their festival.

2. They were going to have a bunch of specials on figures and what not but most stores did not have a lot of figures to chose from and if they did they were faded and damaged.

3. So in all it was not really a festival or anything, it was more of a bait and switch on the giants.

That has nothing to do with the actual employees at the stores but more of the corporate doings.

I got my ninjini but was a little pfft at they didn't have scarlet. I never really have an issue or when I do it ends up getting fixed in the end. As for employees taking out variants and reselling them, that's everywhere. Toys r us, gamestop, walmart, etc. If someone knows how juicy skylanders sells of course they are going to comb through the boxes and look for them. Especially if some nut is willing to pay well over its worth thinking it will costs thousands in the next ten years. I'm surprised whenever I hear about someone getting a chase because from the way people work, that is some mad luck.

I guess I remember a different Skylanders event than some of you.

http://www.gamestop.com/gs/lan...id=eml_10000929

I know there were all kinds of rumors floating around, but I'm pretty sure the official announcement (linked above) was limited to the following:

A limited supply of Polar Whirlwind.
Ninjini (not Scarlet) in Select Stores.
Posters for the first 25 people
Starter Packs for $39.99
Battle Packs for $9.99
and a Free "Sidekick with the purchase of any Skylanders Giants toy".

Of those items, Polar Whirlwind was true, Ninjini was true, the posters were true, the special pricing was true.

The Sidekick issue... that was a case of very poor communication. I can easily see how that statement could go either way. It doesn't really explain how my store required me to buy a battle pack to get one though. smilie

So, they're 5 for 6, from what was officially announced - and the 6th one... is poorly worded for everyone involved.

Obviously, there were all kinds of rumors going around, about how someone's friend's uncle who works for GameStop HQ knew that stores were going to get 30 cases each of the chase variants or some crap - but, if you read the official announcement (which also matches the e-mail they sent, which I still have) and you don't go by the rumors that were floating around, they did pretty good.

I, too, didn't have any issues with Gamestop's Skylanders event back in June. I bought Giants that day (which is my first adventure into the realm of Skylanders) and ended up buying the last Polar they had there. Of course, having never played the game or knowing anything about it, I didn't think to give the shelves a once over to see if there was anything special. I even got Trigger Snappy, which they had all four sidekicks for me to choose from. Of course, I did get there a half hour into the store opening and I had already bought the last Polar. I did feel bad because a guy with his son came in looking for one while I was checking out. Amusingly, the one clerk asked the guy who was ringing my items up if they were already out of Polars, to which my cashier replied "Yea, but what do you want? They only sent us 6." Maybe it's because I'm an Elementary teacher, but the poor seven year old (guessing the age, but looked seven) seemed rather disappointed... so I let them have mine instead. He was delighted, and I found one later that morning at another location across the river so it worked out for everyone involved. However, I can see how anyone else who came in later that morning could be upset that they already didn't have any Polars after the first half hour of their event.

Wow. What a sweet thing to do. It does suck trying to collect those when there are only so many in circulation. The only way to get them is at store openings. I was the second person in but the first person buying the polar whirlwind. I remember back when granite crusher came out. I almost thought I would have to go into Day-After-Thanksgiving defends mode since I saw a family of 3 showed up. And then another small family. I think target had about 8 of them. So I knew exactly where the electronics section was so I cut through EVERYTHING to get back there and picked out my figure first. So anyone who really really wants these things got to understand that you practically gotta get there as soon as the store opens because they can be gone in a matter of hours. Sometimes I want to say "early bird catches the worm" but I cant bear to say that to a little kid. Lol

I actually thought the same thing about the sidekick deal that you got it with any Skylanders Giants purchase. A few days before the "event", I asked the store manager about it and the computer and ad specified exactly the correct item number for the $14.99 figure that was required to be purchased to get the sidekicks for free. It was definitely listed correctly, if anyone got a sidekick with the purchase of any other cheaper giants figure, then the employee was an idiot and couldn't read and match up item numbers.

Hence why my Gamestop is nicer
They just made it mandatory to buy 15$ of skylander merchandise to get a side kick

Um.. That doesn't make much sense. So you're happy with paying $15 when others were paying $10 just to get a Sidekick?

No the ad said specifically buying 1 15$ Giant figure for 1 free side kick.
I didnt buy any giants that day (Had Ninjini already) so I bought whirlwind + 1 other figure (forgot who)
So I got 3 figures (2 regular +sidekick) instead of 2 (Giant+Sidekick)

The Ad said a any Skylander Giants figure. So that would mean a 10 dollar figure would have worked to.

I know that my Gamestop was giving them out to people who just came in and only bought Polar but nothing else.

To UncleBob: I believe the above is the most inconsistent message we received...as data came into the site some people were honored the price, but most weren't. I recall a memo "just before" the event with the constraints, which is actually contrary to what they communicated. I believe someone photographed what they communicated versus what they honored.

Also, I believe the battle packs were 50% off as well.

Here is your answer:
Back when GS was having the Skylanders Day - Polar Whirlwind Promo (June 22nd), They were offering the Loyalty Program for Skylanders.
Here is the actual ad:
[User Posted Image]

More details: http://www.gamestop.com/gs/lan...ival/rules.aspx

To enter the promotion, you had to be a Power UP member and purchase Skylanders stuff on that date (Store or Online).

I like this especially (Prizes are not even guaranteed) - Prize Terms: The dates for fulfillment of the Prizes will be on or about August 16, 2013, but subject to change in Sponsor’s sole discretion. If for any reason any Prize is unavailable or any Prize related event is delayed, cancelled or postponed, or for any other reason, Sponsor reserves the right to modify the Sweepstakes and award a substitute Prize, or portion of Prize, of comparable or greater value, as set forth in these Official Rules (subject to compliance with applicable law)

Almost a month has past from fulfillment of the Prize and still have not heard of any Winners. Probably some GS employee (Keep it in the family).
Don't you love GS.

I spoke with a GameStop employee today about the loyalty program. He was able to look info up in the computer on it. Apparently it is based off of prior Skylanders purchases through their stores and you get a percentage off based on how much you've spent in the past. You also get some coupons upon enrollment. More info will be provided to people who get called to pick up their Swap Force Pre-orders. Don't shoot me if I am wrong on this info as I am just going by what I was told.

Thanks and let me get this straight

I can get some coupons+ a percentage (Guessing of cash) based on how much Skylanders I bought from them? PLUS I can get more info about the loyalty program when they call me to pick up my Swap force Pre Order Pack.
OMG that is amazing
Totally going to ask my friend at gamestop if he can dig up any more info. (Going there on the 11th to pick up my Pumpkin Eye Brawl

It was my understanding that say if you bought X amount of Skylander figures over the last few years from Gamestop you would be eligible for lets 5% off and future purchases, if you bought Y amount you would get 10%, if you bought Z you would get 15%...etc. The guy was able to see that I had bough several figures from both the BM stores and online from checking my power up rewards cards. On top of the percentage you would save on future purchases you would also get coupons upon enrolling into the program. My understanding is that when you are called to pick up your pre-order a few days prior to launch the exact details will be given to you as far as what you needed to have spent and what percentage off you could be eligible for. Again, this is just what he told me and he even admitted that Gamestop kept the Swap Force brochure purposely vague so that things could change from the time the program was announced to when they actually roll it out.

This, sadly, seems to be a common practice found in GameStop's advertising and marketing schemes, at least regarding Skylanders.
