I have just received a special edition metallic gill grunt , but i dont know what the story is on this little guy any one know anything about him , all i have read was that he was only given out to special reps and vendors from activision .

He's entirely metallic green, doesn't look as shiny as the others.

So glad I got out of the variant game. So far disney had impressed with several hours of gameplay in their adventure Oaks compared to minutes and their variants are available to everyone. Activision making certain people seem better than others so they get a rare figure? Lol. Disney gave out epic mickey at their toy show but it even said on the box it will be released early 2014 everywhere. Crystal mcqueen is on shelves. They are handling it much better. I get the doggies I want without paying scalper prices of hundreds of dollars. Swap force is my last chance I'm giving activision but I have far outgrown the gotta have em all mentality. The disney portal claims to be the only portal you will need for years to come. I wish they would just release star wars and marvel characters so Activision would be forced to make a better game and better availability of variants. Or when those franchises come skylanders will drop dramatically. Eventually People will get tired of paying all that cash for 4 hours of gameplay and parents will get tired of their kids asking for a chrome gill grunt or gold whoever just because it is their favorite character but unless you are willing to spend the big bucks alot of kids will just have to watch and wonder why they can't get a special edition of the character they love more than any of them bc activision believes people that work in the industry or media is easy more special than the people buying their product. I use to like variants but after DI I just can't help but be disappointed by activision the company all of us made a success but how do they Thank us? With a series 1 blue bash? Lol sorry for the lecture just saw another variant exists and I'm so over it I may just avoid swap force all together.

I am pretty sure I read somewhere that there will be a difference between these and on the widely released mickeys , so those will be rarer from a collective standpoint.
Your also comparing Crystal lighting to this gill grunt which is wrong. Crystal is the equal to the skylanders legendary line which by far is alot easier to find in toysrus then normal variants are as toysrus restocks these pretty heavily for a good amount of time. Example is the legendary triple of giants and bouncer were around for months in store and online. I expect lighting crystal to be about the same.

This gill grunt is a special gill made for what activison feels are special ppl. This is not an in-game variant it's just a repainting and has no effect on the quality of the game.

So in the end like i said above this gill grunt is equal to those few that got mickey early with a difference to him. Everyone will get mickey just not looking outside the game as the rest of us (just like gill)

I am sorry Drillsarge..... I have to disagree with you on the infinity. I played it for a couple of days and being a gopher from running from point A to point B got to be old. As far as the figures, yeah they have some neat ones they can make. However, Skylanders has some neats ones they can make also.

Not sure why the portal is a big deal to a lot of people.....

Also, Infinity has a money sink in it also. The whole power discs thing. I bought three packs and got three of the same wreck it ralph power discs. Infinity will burn your wallet just as much as Skylanders.

The manager from my GameStop came back from a Vegas convention and came back with a green/glitter gill grunt. He said it was the same Wheel you had to spin to win (just like the Bronze Hot Dog). I asked him how much he wants for it and he said he's not sure. I told him to let me know when he decides. Sounds like he's going to ask for a pretty penny, one that I am not willing to depart with.

I'm getting a bit weary of the variant game, but frankly these are being made for eclectic collectors who can fork over for manufactured rarity of a figure that plays EXACTLY like the $9.99 figure. Keep in mind that Activision enforces "degrees" of rarity:

1. all released mainline characters have all been widely available this time around--good job Activision
2. store exclusives of IN GAME VARIANTS are HARDER to find but not impossible.
3. pretty shiny rare variants that play EXACTLY like the mainline characters---pony up or shut up. These are for collectors who want to have bragging rights (eye rolls over in sarcasm).

Much like the beanie babies--it's not much of a chase if they are all collecting dust on the counters. I understand it--and people's problems with it. I've grown increasingly negative towards it simply because it's not something I can necessarily plan for .. a point others say is "part of the business".

I seriously doubt Infinity is doing any better; they are going to do similar things as well I think from a toy perspective.

I don't play Disney Infinity, but I was curious about the power disc thing, since I kept reading about it. I was at Target and put the disc on and it gave a generic promo video. And I doubt any store would let you return the discs once you've opened them.

They won't, at least not with this game. I was reading that pretty much all of the figures have been figured out (and will be out with Wave 2, minus some crystal ones) by their slots in the display area. They could possibly patch in some new stuff, but that leaves Wii and 3DS out in the cold. Next game, maybe.

My son has really gotten interested in Infinity lately, even so much my wife asked me about it since a friend of his has it. I think I'm still gonna hold out until Black Friday deals. Sorceror Mickey, however, I'll definitely get him - game or no game.

Who said open them? I'm just saying you could buy them , put them on ur portal and see what they are and in theory return them. I'm not saying this is right or wrong just that one could.

Unfortunately, the power discs can be discovered in various ways.

If the store has a real DI set up then you can just put the discs on the unit.

However, rares have a different texture that can be felt from outside the bag. So, as is the case with a local walmart, the employee said he went through ALL the discs and grabbed ALL the rares. (Bastard)

However, you can also just buy the discs, take them home and put them on your portal. If they are the same shape then they can be read without evening opening them.

So, any way you look at it, unless you see a fresh box being opened, there's not much reliability in your chances.
