In their defense, at least the crystal figures give different playstyles and rewards in-game. And they have some of their paint still on.
I don't care much either way about Infinity (unless we get a Kingdom Hearts world, which almost certainly won't happen), but I figured I should point this out.

Variants is hardly an idea that was invented for Skylanders. Other figures have been doing that for ages.

This is the way things work in every industry. Someone creates something and other improve on it. I dont really think its copying or unethical.

But having a series exclusive to TRU is kinda pretty much exactly what Activision did first. If it was for Gamestop, or Walmart, or Best Buy, or wherever else theese things are sold, no one would bat an eye. But TRU? No, cause thats Skylander Territory, and DI CANNOT do a series of variants in TRU. A few would be acceptable, but a series? No! Just No.

TRU has tons of exclusives for many, many toy lines. This is standard business for them. I would almost hazard to guess Disney did this at their request.

i'll also get other stuff at tru (my sister's sidekick pack, play and store case, figure cases) then head to gamestop

the 'crystal' lightning mcqueen looks like garbage. not hating on infinity but the figure quality is really showing. it looks like one of those cheaply made race cars. Also the design is just too much directed to kids and probably ones that are ten and under just by the design. i think that's one thing skylanders does right is just simply the appeal of certain characters that you want to play as them. inifinity is going to have a very difficult time with that

Saying that Disney copied Skylanders in Variants, is pretty much also saying Skylanders copied (insert toy brand that has variants) variants as well.

I never said if I'm getting the game or not. I'm a huge Disney fan, but nothing has really impressed me so much for me to buy it so far. But seriously, variants have been done by tons of companies for figures and many other products...people make it like Skylanders invented the concept. Can we all agree that activision and skylanders didnt create exclusives and varianta of any kind? Further can we agree that Activision is fully aware of thw disney game and has qualified people dealing with their marketing --thus they can handle this? I guarentee Activision knows far more than thw public about any and all competition.

Can I say this? What is a Disney Infinity article doing on a [i]Skylanders[i] toys and merchandise page? I can understand the gaming section but this is for skylanders merchandise not D.I. I'm mentioning this because I am tired of the back and forth.

Well variants well make Disney more money and Toys R Us as well.

I think infinity is awful. Not what I we were expecting. The characters and all graphics are blocky. Big ddisappointment.Put it for sale because ggamestop cant take it back yet

Exactly, and video games companies are notorious about copying others ideas. Actually in the long run its good for us, competition forces game producers to keep pushing the envelope instead of staying pat with the same old same old. I think we should hope for Infinity to do well to keep Activision and Toys for Bob to keep pushing the creative edge for our Skylanders games. Disney has tons of characters, but Skylanders isn't hampered by characters that are decades old, they can create new interesting characters and ideas much easier in my opinion. Having said that, please bring back all Spyros forgotten 8, please! lol Just my two cents.

So, since this is about Infinity, this needs to go into the Video Games section. If it could be done about my thread about Day 1, then this can as well.

Variants are as old as toy collecting. Look at vintage Star Wars, for example. There are tons of variants, all of which were available starting at the end of 1977 and beginning of 1978. The game is, and always will be, to get as much of the consumers money for as little investment as possible.
