Some people started "getting into" Skylanders after the first installment of the Skylanders franchise was already past its prime.
While it's still possible to find some "Series 1" (S1) characters on the shelves in some retail stores, they are becoming rarer and rarer as time goes by.
For most late-blooming collectors or new/casual fans, you may have questions about the secondary market for S1 Skylanders (eBay, etc.).
While the retail price for new S1 Skylanders is fairly predictable (they cost between $8.00 and $12.00 USD, depending on the retailer), the secondary market has a much wider range of prices, mostly based on rarity and popularity of the figures -- sometimes a character has less value in used condition, but other times a character has higher-than-retail value in used condition on the secondary market. Over the past 12 months, I've been monitoring the average prices for used S1 Skylanders on eBay (and elsewhere), and have compiled a price guide. The purpose of the guide is to help the consumer feel more confident about purchasing used S1 Skylanders on the internet, if you are so inclined to do so, either to complete your collection or to acquire a certain figurine that you really like, but haven't been able to find in stores. It's good to know where to set your price limit when bidding on an eBay auction, and/or what prices to realistically expect to pay if you prefer the "Buy It Now" option on eBay (or Amazon, etc.).
For clarity, I did NOT include any sales of NEW items. This guide is for USED S1 Skylanders, out-of-the-box, intended for the purpose of actually using the figurine on the Portal of Power and/or allowing children to play with the figurine.
Also, with a few exceptions, this guide is NOT for variants of the S1 Skylanders. If you're searching for the special "chase" variants (clear/crystal, gold, silver, etc.), those are a whole different can of worms, outside the scope of my data collection. I did exclude any eBay sales that involved broken, damaged, or non-functional Skylanders, and I also excluded listings that were vague about the condition of the figurine.
Please note, these average prices INCLUDE the Buyer's shipping cost for standard (not "economy") shipping. I did that for simplicity. If you're viewing an eBay listing with a Seller that does NOT include Free Shipping with your desired Skylander, then be sure to account for that when evaluating the Seller's asking price. For example, if my guide shows that a Skylander averages $5.00, but your Seller charges $3.00 for Shipping/Handling, then you do not want to be paying more than $2.00 for that Skylander ($5.00 minus $3.00 = $2.00). If any questions about that, PM me, and I'll clarify.
Lastly, please note that this data has been collected over several months, so it is very valid and you can trust it (I have rounded the prices for simplicity). However, the market is ALWAYS subject to change in the future. Increased consumer demand or decreasing supply will drive the price up, while decreased consumer demand or increasing supply will drive the price down. KEEP IN MIND that supply and demand on the secondary used market is NOT always consistent with the concurrent supply and demand of NEW Skylanders in the stores.
Comments are welcome, but please refrain from comments like, "I got [Skylander name] so cheap at a yard sale last weekend!" (that's not relevant to this guide) or "I still see [Skylander name] in the stores where I live" (also not relevant to this guide). Without further ado ...

I'm surprised no one else has done this before! This is a great idea, and really useful as I have resorted to buying a few figures pre-owned. The only thing is that I live in the UK
Oh well, I can use a currency converter, but seriously, thanks for this guide BahamutBreaker!

This is a great guide and extremely accurate. I only got into Skylanders a month or so ago and have had to get a lot of the Series 1 figures through Ebay and paid pretty much spot on what is listed the ones I bought. The only exception was I was able to win an auction for Ghost Roaster at $25 - under what he typically goes for

There is an online price gude for this stuff. http://videogames.pricechartin...es?sort-by=name Bahamut--did you know about this site? Curious how close it is...my understanding is that it scrapes e-bay sales.

RIP GhostRoaster. He's reanimated as TakeYourLemons but occasionally is resurrected from the beyond when needed. |

Thanks for the praise Rachet and ThatMatt!
@ GhostRoaster -- yeah, I knew about that website and visited there a couple of times back in the Spring. I even had a brief discussion about it with one of the people that runs that website right here on these forums. I forget his username here, but I remember him telling me that it was semi-difficult to get a read on prices for loose used Skylanders with his software because loose Skylanders aren't identified with a default/universal code/number in eBay's system (like, by UPC or ISBN, etc.). So, I took it upon myself to periodically "scrape" my own data, by hand, pen, paper, and calculator. The results are what's posted in this guide. I'm sure the Price-Charting website is a good resource. And if my data and their data are consistent, then that's a good thing, since it validates both data sets.

Thanks very much. I've purchased any s1 figures second hand and got all but about 8 (including adventure packs) for $100 used but now it's nice to see how much the individuals are worth to round out the collection. Thanks for taking the time.

Great guide and very accurate. As a new collector working on a complete S1 collection I am mostly trying to buy in lots of figures to save money, eventually reselling any extras I happen to get as a result of this. Would it be possible for you to work on a Giants guide sometime too? Maybe not as pin point accurate in prices but it would be very helpful!

Thank you for the praise Crocko, Loxone, and Pete. I made this guide several months ago, and it seemed like a good time to revise it. Many of the prices remained stable, but there were some changes, most notably the decline in price (relatively) for Ghost Roaster, Dino-Rang, Wrecking Ball, and Voodood, plus the minor increases for Wham-Shell, Zap, and Bash.
I do plan to work on a similar guide for the Giants series characters. I'm going to let the secondary market prices settle a bit post-Christmas first, though. Right now, Toys R Us stores (in particular) are sitting on enormous in-store stock of Giants, and those will need to moved at some point, either on clearance or by wholesaling them to places like Big Lots! or Ocean State Job Lot, etc. Whenever that happens, it will have a substantial impact on the Giants on the secondary market.

This is a great guide and is very accurate. I wish I would have known this existed before I started buying used S1 Skylanders. However, I believe everything that I have bought used has been below or within the price range with the exception of one character. Anywho, I will be recommending this guide to a few friends.
I will be on the look out for a cheaper Wham-shell and Ghost Roaster. 10 more S1 Skylanders to go!

Very helpful, thank you for bumping this! I went to two stores today, one a place where people trade in things for buy back money, and another that just specializes in reselling used games. I picked up two SSA figures in total and I made sure I wasn't getting ripped off with this guide. Prices ended up actually being lower than the ranges here, so I knew to go for them. Thanks again!
