Gamestop has a preorder for this. It is due out 12/31/2013. Probably a place holder, but it's out. Just go to Gamestops website and it'll show the pic of all 5 dark editions.

The Press Release stories out there concerning this mention that the Lightcore Hex Pre-order bonus will be available for this, however, the Gamestop page is not showing it. They will probably get my pre-order if they fix it.

Oh, and they need to do something about that price. $25 more for 2 more figures is silly. Add in the fact that Gamestop will almost certainly not have a Day 1 deal like many of the other retailers.

The problem though, is that release date. Release Date 12/31/2013.

That's the last day of the year so is most 'likely' a default date for 'we really don't know'.

I don't want to buy SF on the normal release date and then have to buy a whole new starter pack 2 1/2 months later. That's crazy talk. If it's just a matter of pay an extra $25 and get all those items on the normal day.... hell yeah!!!

I think each store will have a dark exclusive starter pack or you can buy this "master starter set" anywhere ..just my opinion

Read the Press Release from Gamestop, it is exclusive. The date is a placeholder, apparently the page hasn't been updated yet with all the details. It'll be out with the regular one given that they state the Lightcore Hex thing is available. They wouldn't pay for an exclusive like this without it coming out at the same time.

Guys, here's a hint. You know those 4 code sheets you have for the Giant Sidekicks? Use those to make the Starter 89.99. That's like getting 1 dark figure for 5 bucks.

Bit difficult to use that online with a pre order!....The guy I know at my local Gamestop told me that these would only be available online. So as usual lots of different information being thrown about from Gamestop employees.

Your local Gamestop employee is dumb. Most Gamestop employees don't know what they're talking about most of the time... until they get the memo, as it were.

Cancel online preorder, preorder in store, take coupon expires on 11/30/13, so it should be all good.

I prefer the Dark ones to the regular, everyone will have their own preferences (to those confused by the interest in this). Also $20 more to get two more figures, and in-game variants (most likely) to me and others is worth it. Factor in there will probably be far fewer of these dark starters over regular starters, and collectible factor is added!

I think the chances are slim, especially of all 5 getting single releases. IF they did, it might be like Dark Spyro from SSA and only be in certain countries.

Dark/black color schemes tend to be popular I think. Also they look different than normal version which people value as well.
I like the normal color schemes better than dark version, except maybe Stealth Elf, so not getting this over regular starter.
Similarly, I don't care about chase figures which I think look way uglier than normal figures.

I agree, $99 is absurd. Using the coupon doesn't justify it because you can also use it on the normal Starter and make that cheaper too. Bottom line, you are paying $25 for two figures and a different paint job, coupon or no.

I'm starting to talk myself out of it. My inner collector had started thinking about my plan, but I think this has now pushed me back into my previous much more conservative position. They are obviously going nuts with the variants this time, even more so than Giants. I've got a full set of SSA and a full set of Giants (minus chases for both). I'm looking forward to Swap Force, but I think they have reached the point where I'm going to put a halt to the ole "collect 'em all" logic.

Some of us like to have one of every character (ie Legendary, Dark, Alter Ego, etc).

It's not a press release per say. It's their email they just received with instructions on how to start taking reserves on it.

For those saying it's over priced look at it this way. The two Swappers add up to be $30 and the three regular Skylanders add up to $30. That's $60 for all the characters. That means the game the new Portal (which looks different colors almost silver) and the poster which has all the figures from all the games apparently is only $40. I will be getting this one for Christmas and the 3DS and Xbox 360 packs on release day!

I have no idea whether to get this or the normal pack.

Skylander Swap Force starter set is available to purchase for a PS4 release - However I just realized this "dark" edition is for current consoles it looks like. Was hoping to get it for the PS4.

Really? Because I tried using one of the coupons with Gnarly Tree Rex. It didn't scan in their system so they wouldn't honor it and I'm not the only person to have the issue.

The Glow in the Dark starter was US Walmart exclusive.

I think it quite likely that the figures in the Dark starter pack will be available ONLY in the starter pack, at least for quite a while. Which means you'd have to buy them loose to get them. At a huge cost. I also bet supplies will be limited because any exclusives will go quickly.

If you get the Dark versions, you probably don't get the regular versions in the same box. Maybe the regular versions will be sold separately and you can get them that way.

After a while, especially right before xmas I expect there to be loads of SF starter pack sales. Probably starting with Black Friday sales. So, I may get the Dark Pack to start off (because supply will be limited and its excludsive). Then when the big sales hit on the regular version, I 'may' get the regular version as well. I own many consoles so I might just get a Wii-U Dark and an Xbox 360 regular.

HOWEVER!! When Xbox One and PS4 come out, and they have Skylander support, I will probably just go that route anyways.

Yes, there are those who haven't had an issue. I will try one today at Gamestop infact, even if I have to buy a figure I don't need. Anytime barcodes are that close together (same happens with Disney DVD coupons), the cashier needs to hold one finger over one barcode and scan the other. If that barcode doesn't work, they move their hand over the barcode that was covered, and try the other one. One of them will work, and I am going to try it to make sure Gamestop will take these when I get 10 dollars off each Starter Pack (preordering 5 of them).

Yes, as a deal in itself, the package is not terrible. But as a deal compared to the normal Starter, it isn't great. Add to that that Gamestop will almost certainly not have a discount on this prior to Christmas (and Giants was able to be found as low as $35 leading up to the holiday) it isn't great.

By your math the regular starter is $40 worth of figures plus $35 for the game and portal, the Dark one is $60 worth of figures and $40 for the game and portal. So, it is $5 for variant paint, but given Gamestop is already charging more for variants (Scarlet and Cloudy were $1 more there) it is right in line with their pricing. Not a fan in their dabbling in charging more for variants. I understand some people will be fine with that pricing, or really want the Dark figures and will be happy to pay it.

I have the coupons cut in half so it wasn't an issue with multiple bar codes. It simply didn't work.

I'll probably get this for Christmas.

I've been told by numerous Gamestops that they will not accept the Sidekick Frito Lay $10 off coupons and that they only accept Gamestop coupons. So Gamemaster78 before you start calling all the Chicago area Gamestop employees dumb again think twice about whether they are all right or whether your guy is going against the grain! Either way its still the normal Gamestop crap of no one knows what the hell they should or shouldn't be doing.

For the people who don't think this is a good deal, I don't get why it is not? You are getting variants of figures that we don't know will be out in singles and not paying anymore than you usually would.

You are paying $5 more than you usually would. Two figures are the difference, for which the price differs by $25 ($99-$74). Figures are normally $10 each, hence the difference. It's a dollar extra per figure in the pack for the variant coloring. No a big difference for a collector, but I hate to see them start to go with a higher price for variants (even though Gamestop already does this, I hope it doesn't catch on with the other retailers).

Might want to read my comment again. I never said they were dumb and didn't know what they were talking about when it came to being able to use coupons vs. not being able to.

I said they were dumb for saying that the Starter was a web exclusive, which would have been insane and downright stupid. There's no way Gamestop keeps exclusives web only, because GS employees are asked to keep up their "numbers" which includes MST's and preorders.

Bottom line, though, they would never keep it exclusive, most employees at Gamestop don't know what they're talking about, but act like they do, just because they work at a game store, and you should read my posts a bit better next time.
