If the lightcore figure was in SSA then he will work in SSA and Giants he just won't have the lightcore effect or glow in the SSA game. In other words drobot, eruptor, and prism break will work in both. Pop fizz, shroomboom, chill, and leg chill will only work in giants.

As far as I can figure, the box says "No" because the entrance boom won't work in SSA. ONE feature won't work, so they declare the whole thing won't work, just to stop people from complaining. Now it works BETTER than they claim instead of worse. Like Slayer said, any repose will work, new characters won't. (also, he missed LC Hex, she'll also work in SSA. Also missed LC Jet Vac, who won't work since he's new with Giants).
Pretty sure my Legendary Stealth Elf was also labelled as Doesn't Work, and she works just fine, I took her through all the heroics I have unlocked there. In this case, the straw that broke the camel's back is that she appears as normal Stealth Elf, she doesn't have her Legendary colour scheme.

There's a lot of strange misconceptions out there about this type of compatibility question.
For the record, if you use a "lightcore" character on the Spyro's Adventure game, it will work ... as long as it is a lightcore character that had a counterpart character file in the original Spyro's Adventure game. In other words, Lightcore Drobot, Prism Break, Eruptor, and Hex will work with Spyro's Adventure ... but Lightcore Jet-Vac, Chill, Pop Fizz, and Shroomboom will not. The same rules apply to Series 2 variants. For example, Legendary Slam Bam, Legendary Stealth Elf, Legendary Ignitor, and Polar Whirlwind ARE all compatible with Spyro's Adventure (regardless of what the box/packaging says), but they simply appear as the regular-color versions of those characters when used with Spyro's Adventure.

SWEET!! will they count as series 2 versions?? cuz LC drobot is everywhere & brism break but not thier s2 versions. So i can just pick LCs up instead if they still get everything S2 gets. then my son can FINALLY have an earth skylander.

In SSA, orange base characters that are from the first game will show up as normal characters in that game. They will register towards your collection in the first game, but it won't say Lightcore or Series 2.
In Giants, LC Drobot will register as LC Drobot, while S2 Drobot will register as S2 Drobot. Your green base Drobot would show up in Giants as Series 1 Drobot and be surrounded by a green circle on the collection screen, instead of orange.

Yep.
If you collect Stone Zook, Whirlwind, Glitter Sonic Boom, Hot Head, Sprocket, Flocked (White) Eruptor, Stump Smash, Prism Break, Purple Eye-Brawl, Wrecking Ball, Spyro, Bronze Flameslinger, Toy Fair Chop Chop, E3 Hot Dog, and GITD Fright Rider, they will all register as "Special" on their element screen and the totals screen. If you register green base Skylanders, they will show up as "Series 1" and be surrounded by a green circle, while all orange base Skylanders show up with orange circles around their picture, while saying their name, or "Series 2" or "Lightcore," depending on what you register. Sidekicks register, Magical Items register, Location Items register, and even the Volcanic Vault registers (technically a Magical Item despite the fact it doesn't do anything but unlock the Volcanic Vault arena). If one were to register the main collection, minus chase variants, the total should read 123, after getting everything from SSA and Giants.

Oh, and on the save file selection screen, your Skylanders total should be 99, pending you have the 8 Alter Egos and Legendaries.

They don't get Wow Pow's, but they do register as separate characters. So, if you have Series 1, 2, and Lightcore Drobot, you will see three Drobots next to each other on the Tech collection and total collection screens.
