I have been collecting skylanders since the first game, and have one of each character. Would it be good or bad to get the s2 characters. In my opinion, they are a waste of money. What do you guys think?

Another thread like this, its not a waste of money for people that just started collecting skylanders late like me, i got into skylanders late so i decided to collect S2 skylanders instead of the S1 and i find that S2 is better than the S1 in my opinion, looks better & has wow pow.

Short answer is Yes, all Skylanders are a waste of money. Long answer, if you have to ask the question you shouldn't get S2 versions, on the other hand if you can't help yourself then there is nothing you can do. Personally, I wanted to only get one of each character, but at the moment we have 3x Shroombooms, 3x Trigger Happys, 3x Double Troubles, 3x Stealth Elfs etc. |

Personally I like the S1's better as they all look more uniform with the "one-off" guys like Boomer and the Giants. I love having a big Skylander army showing their most basic forms.
I also collect the S2s and Lightcores as I enjoy the look of them and trying out different upgrade paths, but despite lacking a wow pow (and heroic challenges which I hardly do) I'd go with S1 just to add some uniformity.

I started in Jan 2013 collecting, but still have some S1 figures.
Mostly the characters I like the most like Whirlwind.

Not a waste at all if you can afford them. They have better sculpts, the Wow Pow ability makes them inarguably better in-game, and they unlock Heroics that their S1 counterparts do not. If money is no object, then what are you waiting for? Keep in mind, though, that they're not the first choices for gamers on a budget.

If you just want the character and don't care about the wow pow gimic then dont buy them. If that attack matters to you then get them. I own a set of both as I like the physical characters myself they are neat. Prob why I have a sealed and soon to be open set of ssa and an open and sealed set of giants.
If you can't decide, do the middle ground. Buy series 2 of your favs, skip the rest. I do think they need to retire a few figures more after swap force, how many more stealth elf, eruptors etc do we really need? At some point they arent going to sell. |

I only got Series 2's of my favorites (I'm 13 (now 14 ) and on a budget as well). Besides Chop Chop and Cynder who came with the Starter Pack/Battle Packs, the only ones I specifically bought we're Zook, Gill Grunt, and Double Trouble (the two latter were in a triple pack).

For a TIGHT budget, Series 2 only if you don't have Series 1. They mostly have the same powers, except for the addition of the Wow Pow, and Series 2 can switch paths back and forth (and keep any they buy... When you switch, then switch back, any upgrades bought will still be bought). However, I think most people would agree that this isn't enough reason to ALSO buy a Series 2. It's nice, and makes the decision easy if you're deciding between Series 1 and Series 2, but that's all there is if you already own S1. That, and if you REALLY like the S2 pose/look.

I think I am just going to stay with s1 and only have one of each character and not end up with like 7 stealth elfs and prism breaks.

All Skylanders are a waste of money.
They are a luxury. That said, the Series 2 characters, for the most part, are sturdier, better-looking, and have enhanced in-game abilities ("wow pow", option to switch skill path/tree, etc.). And that said ... there's nothing "wrong" with using the Series 1 characters in the Giants game ... at all.

Exactly---Skylanders aren't an "investment." They are for fun, non necessity, and therefore not money you recoup.
As long as you know that going in--and can afford to do that--then enjoy!!

well www.gamestop.com still has a few of them on sale. Otherwise walk into target/walmart/tru and get them all there or online.
Toysrus atm is doing a BOGO 40% off. So that may help. |

Cheapest way? Probably Craigslist. But that will likely require patience and diligence, unless you just get super lucky with coincidental timing. Fastest way? Go to Amazon and buy one of each character. Some will be in-stock sold by actual Amazon distributors. Others will be more expensive because you'll have to buy from 3rd-party sellers. If you want to buy a large lot/bundle of Skylanders, and you don't have the patience/time for Craigslist (or if your local Craigslist has poor supply due to living in a sparsely populated area/state), then your best bet is still Ebay. If you have a hard time winning auctions on Ebay, just browse the "Buy It Now" listings, instead.

I was about to say the same thing, Craigslist. Or Kijiji, same thing. When people decide to quit Skylanders, they often decide to sell everything, and often they don't realize that selling them all together is usually UNappealing, or are too lazy to make separate listings. Since huge lots like that are unappealing, due to guaranteeing getting lots of doubles (unless you're new, and who wants to invest so much into something they haven't yet tried?), it might be easier to win the auction or convince the seller to sell to you.
