I think it looks cute personally...my nephew has a huge collection of angry birds merchandise and has always wanted to get into Skylanders but my brother and sister don't really like the investment that it requires, so this should be a good alternative for him. I think it's pretty cool other companies are going the Skylanders route, makes for fun collecting and actual palpable "DLC" in the market.

Well, hopefully, they aren't $10 like the Skylanders.

Maybe $5 to $7.

Pretty much this. Angry Birds always has cheap looking merchandise.

Not everything is ripping off Skylanders.

Based on the video all the game does is scan the figure with the camera then allows you to use that bird immediately. It's basically just a quick content unlock and this actually isn't dissimilar from what Rovio has already been doing with Angry Bird Star Wars. The toys for the first game already came with 1 time use codes which would unlock content within the game. All they're doing now is making this content unlock more interactive and allowing players to customize how they play the game.

...Wait, hold on. This uses the camera - yes? Surely this is very insecure and can be exploited very easily.

From what I gathered in the video, and what I saw in the press release, they're moving that little column thing over the tablet's camera.

Pretty cute little things. I wouldn't call it "copying"..i mean, you'd end up having to call EVERY game that utilizes figures=Characters in game as "copying".

The figures look super small though...although since most people would (i assume) be traveling with their app/device it makes sense that they'd make them more portable; you can't really take a figure like a Skylander or a Disney Infinity character and stick it in your pocket.

And I think we can all agree that a bit of competition will be good for all fields- consumers have a wider variety of what games they want to play, companies are more responsible to come out with the best product feature and look wise, and it's pushing the envelope for what NFC figures can do.

Can the series 1 & 2 figures, which are already available, be used with the upcoming game + telepods?

I'm pretty sure "Apptivity" came out after Skylanders, I remember getting the King Pig one for Angry Birds sometime when it came out in 2012.

Ah, I remember something like or those released before Skylanders x) I found AppTivity's at my local 99 Cents Only. ALSO, I found Skylanders at Big Lots. They had Crusher and Swarm for 12, and I saw Flashwing, S2 Eruptor/LightningRod/StealthElf/Prism Break, Wave 3 boxes, for $7.

i recall, years ago, at Toys R Us, I got some sort of big battle dome thing where you could mix and match action figures to create unique combinations and battle them. I can't remember what the heck it was called, but I'd recognize it if I saw it.

So in a way, SF ripped that off.

I'm pretty sure that skylanders ripped U.B Funkeys of but the difference is that you use a giant funkey and put the figure in the back of his head to get it in the game and that U.B funkeys is on the computer not console like skylanders oh and U.B funkeys was made around 2006 and skylanders 2011

Well, Skylanders Battlegrounds is for the very same mobile devices, so that's not saying much, LOL! And I think we all knew (or should have known... I certainly did) that something as innovative as "warping" physical characters into the video game would get imitated, and soon. I can't help but notice that with this Transformers game they've WAY simplified/low-teched it by replacing the RFIDs with plastic "codes" in the bases. I do think it's cute that the figure "disappears", furthering the teleporting illusion. I also find it an interesting choice that they went with RCA connectors, but then made it MONO! What kind of idiot is still thinking that Mono is still acceptable? Everything should have been stereo YEARS ago.

This is based on a TV show. I haven't watched it, but I've seen it appear on the schedule, and I've seen a screen or two while flicking channels, as well as the occasional ad. It looks like a cross between Rescue Heroes (firefighters and police officers and the like banding together to save people, reminds me of a watered down G.I. Joe) and Transformers. I get the impression it's legitimately using the Transformers brand, that it's official and not a rip-off requiring legal action, but it looks more like Rescue Heroes, and I don't think they have a single recognizable character from Transformers. So it's a very very VERY watered down Transformers aimed at a younger audience. They seem to also be a team with some office, going out to rescue people and such, like Rescue Heroes or G.I. Joe.

So no, I wouldn't expect ANYTHING from previous series, LOL!

What gets me is how this looks like it works... I've played 5 varieties of Angry Birds: Original, Seasons, Rio, Space and Facebook, and it seems like 90% of the difficulty in all of them comes from having no control over what birds you have available, this looks like this changes that, lets you pick your own birds! I don't know how often I could have breezed through a level if I could only change my lineup...
