I think its the real Dark Spyro Series 1, @OP you know there is really a Dark Spyro from 3DS Spyros Adventure Starter Pack & a single pack that was only release in UK.

The Dark Spyros from 3ds starters kits do have silver wings. I am sure it's real...

@ the OP of this thread ... um ... you're wrong. That Ebay listing is for Dark Spyro ... which is an actual (fairly common) variant of Series 1 Spyro.

You should check yourself before labeling someone a "scammer". Also, you should check your spelling ... "Dark Syro"? Really?

That does look semi-suspicious, but it's almost certainly just a bad photo. That Ebay vendor has over 800 positive Feedback during the past 12 months ... and zero negative Feedback ... with perfect 5.0 DSR's in all four categories. Ebay buyers are often a cruel, unkind breed ... there is almost zero chance that a vendor could do that volume of Ebay sales and not receive some Negatives if s/he was a scammer.

You didn't make a mistake.

It is in fact a series 1 spyro painted (poorly) to look like dark spyro. If you look at the base of the wing where it is glued to the body, you can see the brown-orange color showing through. Dark spyro's wings are black plastic with the webbing painted silver. you can also see the silver paint thinning on his head crest with the orange paint showing through.

I concur that this is a repainted regular Spyro. You can see the orange where the wing joins the body, in a couple of spots down the edge of the closest wing, again in the chest and shining through on his crest. I've taken a couple of reference shots (with my phone, sorry) of my Dark Spyro sitting next to S1 Spyro as well as Legendary Spyro. As I pulled my Dark Spyro out of a sealed 3DS starter that I got a couple of Christmases ago, I know that he's legit. It's not easy to tell from my photos, but while Dark Spyro has a slight sparkle to his body color and silver accents that the other two versions don't have, it's not nearly so pronounced as it is in the eBay photo. Whoever repainted that figure did a relatively good job (as you can't see any brush strokes, etc.), but likely used standard Testors (or similar) model paint to convert one Spyro into another.

Now, who's to say that this seller spotted this when they picked up character? I doubt that they would jeopardize their perfect feedback by deliberately marketing counterfeit merchandise as real. If they're a scammer, it's most likely that they don't realize it.

Another possibility, although remote, is that later releases of Dark Spyro were actually repaints by Activision. I don't find it hard to believe that unsold/returned stock of Wii/PS3/360 starters got turned into filler for 3DS starters that continued to sell (if only for the Dark Spyro within).

That's my $0.02, anyway.

Thank you Doug and one thing extra I noticed the dark spyro from ebay is much more sparkly than yours although yours is sparkly. One more thing why wouldn't they have the card with it.

No problem. :-D As for no card, he does state in the auction that he's purchased figures from eBay before and has "more than he needs," so that's probably his excuse. Based on the number of Ghost Roasters that he has, though, it looks like this guy is an opportunist at best, a scalper at worst. He probably trolls every local flea market in his area picking up any Skylander he can get his hands on to capitalize via eBay. While he might not make much on an SSA Hex (only $6!), he's going to rake it in on a Ghost Roaster ($54, figure only, adventure pack parts sold separately).

Where the paintjob holds up pretty well on the larger parts of the figure, asking him to put up a photo of it on the portal to show that the character works, is who he says it is, etc., likely wouldn't do much to prove anything one way or the other, especially if he just faces the figure away from the camera and subs it out with an actual Dark Spyro. On this one, I think the only way to tell 100% for certain would be to bite the bullet and purchase it.

dem captilist and I wasn't planning to buy it my friend who is new to skylanders was going to I can't let him risk it and people think ghost roaster is worth so much money wait for s2 or s3 ghost roaster. Wish dino-rang was cheaper.

You're definitely being a good friend there. As for S2+ Ghost Roaster...while I love the character and would love to see him brought back, I just don't see it happening. The best bet for now for the forgotten 8 would be to attempt to import the Japanese versions when they come out, as quickly as possible before the domestic scalpers get wind of it and buy up all that stock too. :-(

^ Exactly, the description does say the seller guarantees that it will work (as described), so if the figure doesn't show up skinned and named as Dark Spyro in the game, I'm sure they will refund you or work it out somehow!! Good point mentioned earlier about their feedback, if it's fake and you call them out on it I'm sure they will give you your money back!!
