After I completed the air element, I told myself I was done collecting Skylanders figures for now, but with the recent reissuing of S1 figures, now I'm not so sure. I do really want , , and and a few others that were REALLY hard to find, but I'm taking a break with Skylanders for now, and the figures are starting to burn a hole through my wallet. Is that called "Addiction" where you have to collect figures?

I think it is....or at least obsession! That's why we come here, we're all afflicted and this is our support group. Or maybe it's just the group that reassures us that we're not the only ones addicted? I'm a collector by nature and now my son is too. I think it's genetics because I didn't push it on him or display any kind of collecting to him, but ever since he could talk he's always wanted one of each kind of butterfly or flower or Hotwheels or whatever. He's naturally drawn to the games that allow for collecting something to achieve 100%. I know the feeling.......poor kid! When I was young it was comic books, Garbage Pail Kids, coins, etc.... Not nearly as cool as what you whipper-snappers get to collect today!

My best guess is that its the hunting aspect giving you a sort of buzz. And the achievement you get when you get the full collection (or your version of the full collection, I feel skylanders has 7 levels of fans.) Plus all the playable shenanigans you can do in-game and out-game.
On a side note, here is what I think the different levels are: 1. A person who collects 1 of each element (+Giant, +Movement type) 2. A person who collects 1 of each Character 3. A person who collects each different Normal figure 4. A person who collects each Normal figure and all in-game Variants (this includes Sidekicks and the Volcanic Vault) 5. A person who collects all Normal, In-game Variant, and Chase Variant figures (GitD, Flocked, Rock, Silver, etc.) 6. A person who buys 2 of each figure (So one set can be in packages) 7. A person who buys 2 of each figure including all Variants (This includes S1.5 Double Trouble) That's all. I am personally number 4. I also kept the Platinum Treasure Chest because it had its own Card. |

^ 2 and 3 are basically the same.
I'm a 2, but will turn into a 1.5 with Swap Force, then back to a 2 with the 4th game hopefully. And another would be 9. A person who buys every package to keep sealed, and has 2 open of every character including in game and out of game variants. And 8. Same as above, only most. |

I guess I'm a 4.25. Meaning all figures that were widely available at retail price or below, found both chase stone figures in stores, and bought 2 from ebay. Everything is opened and played with by my kids outside of the game. It is a lot of figures. I need to count them someday.

Hmmm-I'm a 5 + something else--I collect everything sold--so for instance I collect glitter sonic in a triple and a single. + We have an open set including variants like jade flasheing sbs granite crusher...but no open glitter, stone, gold, etc...
So what does that make us?

Somewhere between 3 and 4 for me. I don't go for a character if I dislike it, though I will go for one of every otherwise, and will also pick up different versions if I really like said character (ie, I have both Ninjini's, and all 3 Chop Chops.) I am not even attempting non-game variants unless I happen across one.

I started from one, and I'm currently a 3+ or a 4-.
Frankly, you really need to split four out, so four is 'standard in-game variants' and five 'in-game variants plus promotional in-game variants' (Vault and Sidekicks) Living in a place like New Zealand that never actually gets the 'normal' in-game variants means that even getting a Jade Flashwing or Legendary anything is a pretty huge deal. They can only be imported, and at normally at a fairly high cost. The vault and the sidekicks are actually impossible to get, and it would be easier to locate the not in-game variants. In fact, the silly clear variants would be easier and cheaper to obtain. I guess what I'm trying to say is, as well as type of Skylander, the level of availability is arguably more important. |

I'm between a 3 and a 6. I have a set to play with and a set boxed of every single and variant along with the triples. I however don't have any of the flocked or glitter ones, just the easier variants, thou I did get the bronze hotdog, which I'm calling BBQ hotdog to go with ketekep and mustard hotdog, unless I find another name.

Definitely a 5 here. Sucks that we started late (Christmas 2012) because there's no way to catch up with all the chase variants before Swap comes out. Collected S1 and S2 at the same time just to get to this point, now we'll be doing Swap and chase variants for S1, S2, and whatever they come up with for S3. (Please Activision, don't do chase variants for Swap Force!)

The difference between 2 and 3 is if the person buys reposes or not. For instance, 2 will but S1 Fright Rider and S1 stealth Elf, but not S2 stealth Elf because they already own her. 3 will but both S1, S2, and even S3 of a character because its on the poster checklist of the games normal figures. Also I didn't mean for this to become a rating system for everyone. It's kind of funny but I'm sorry, I think?! I'm glad to see everyone sharing their thoughts on it though.
Edit: Yeah, I do realize this rating system could be altered and probably split into like 15 or 20. If I feel bothered I'll make my first topic with an Updated version, unless some one else does it. It's a great way to get to know how everyone else thinks about there collection and how they collect them. That's what a forum is right? A community! *Smiles* (I refuse to use real emotes...) |

I'm a "2" then. One of each character is enough for me, although I DO have two because I wanted the and he was packaged with. I'm not too interested in variants. I already have one variant, anyway. (Green ) |

Yeah Activision knows what they are doing, definitely get excited when I'm out hunting and find a hard-to-get. I would be on a high for a couple days probably if I scored a chase variant like glitter Hot-Head in the store. There's also a little bit of a feeling like, "what do I do now?" upon full completion. I think Activision knows this as well and makes sure there's something ready for anyone who might ever have that feeling.
