Now I took another "field trip" after work to see if this might in fact work when rung up at the register. When I last discussed with customer service I explained this process to them and they came to the same conclusion on how the policy works for price matching. I visited more than one target and they all had me go up to customer service with products, the 3ds version i tried it with and the pre order, and it came back as it does not work.
This is why:
When they do the price matching on their register it is coded in as such and when you try to do the preorder after it will not ring up the 30 bucks offer deal after it. I saw them ring it up and it does not do so. The computer for the register is already programmed by their policy and it even states on their wall there in customer service that you cannot combine two promotions/deals. It is programmed not to and their policy as I said for how many posts does not allow it. The only way they can actually get it to work if a manual override to put the $30 target deal in after and it's against store policy. Every one of the stores told me kindly exactly what I have posted on my numerous responses. It is theft and fraud. I already knew this because I already have worked in retail so their price matching has been status quo like this for the longest time.
In short, I humbly ask this thread to be closed, because it is advocating not only a gray area of a sale but it is more wrong than an ethical stand point.

^ Sounds like they've fixed the glitch. By the way...39.99 + mcdonald's coupon is 29.99 and that's still a very good price.

I saw that while I was there as they actually took the time and were very kind when I went there. This is why threads like this set me off to a stand point. The customer service at target has been exceptional and down right awesome to the ones I go to. In fact, I learned their price matching even extends to amazon too since they use a tablet to look up prices to match. If anyone were to trick an employee into implementing this 99 cent "exploit" they risk that employee getting terminated and if you have worked in retail or in fact enjoy having good service, you wouldn't put someone into this position, let alone it doesn't give a great example for a parent to a child to do something like that.

I am flattered by the fact you have so much time on your hands to go around to various Targets to test your ignorant views. It does work plain and simple. People have posted on here their success. At this point I am really wondering what it is you are trying to prove? Are you the type of person that simply has to be right all the time and you will spend any amount of energy necessary to prove your point? If that is the case then you are wasting all your energy on something that will simply fall on deaf ears. Let the ones that have chosen to benefit from this deal proceed with it without being hassled by your incessant badgering. Unless they have in fact "fixed" their computers to no longer accept the deal then obviously this deal is no longer valid but I am certainly not going to accept this as fact considering your stance on this matter throughout the whole thread. Do yourself a favor and close your mouth, discontinue your typing on this thread rather than call for it to be closed. I have already dealt with the mods on here and everything is cool. I had a rather pleasant and lengthy discussion on the matter. Thanks, TheGooch

Is anybody else over this debate? Can "we all" move on? I am not trying to be rude at all--but clearly each if us has our own opinion, and clearly nobody is going to change their mind. It seems counter productive.

I am all for it. I just don't know why tigerdr has remained on the offensive throughout. When asked by the mods if I wanted the thread reopened I told them I did knowing full well I would probably have to defend it until the deal died. I am willing to do just that if needed regardless of how unnecessary it may be.

If you read over my posts then you would see why I would have such an opinion against it. There isn't a problem though if you want to be someone that wants to show deals to everyone and that can be a good thing. The problem is that sometimes despite the intent to help that it might not work out as intended. What I take from things you posted if you feel to brag on something like this that it's so important that you found this "deal" in how you had defended and go as far as compose some sort of song on it. That shows quite a bit of ego or immaturity though it was funny to read over. It's very creative and that's not sarcasm. It's not ignorance in trying to get the facts straight from the retailer and to make sure it works. There are a lot of forum goers here that do just that and try to make sure any lead here isn't false. The reason if you paid attention to my posts is because your deal is what it is, too good to be true, and if you actually played by the rules for it you would see it just doesn't work. I went to the stores today to see if it would actually work. What's the term? Not be a hypocrite. There's many times people have said on deals. If you were reading the forums some months back people thought it was possible to stack mcdonalds coupons due to the fact that there isn't a say on limit. Stores it turns out wouldn't do this. Those that said they were able to, factored into as many as that did in posting on your thread - 2. If so many commented on those threads months ago and yours today, I would rather think on your perspective that it would be favorable that they in fact it could work out for them. In most cases and I would say 80-90% that it wouldn't work doesn't make it a sound deal, and if that's the case you shouldn't be giving that type of information out here. If you want to be someone that's going to be into showing off deals and its great you want to pride yourself on it. The fact remains is that deals are only effective if they're overall able to work nearly 100% of the time, otherwise it comes off as what it is in exploiting some way, policy and it becomes theft to the retailer you attempted to buy from. That is fact, not opinion. Those that come to these forums try to help each other, and in the end we all want you to contribute and yes I would like to see that out of you too as long as it can be used by just about everyone. You should also realize as I have said already countless times there are a lot of younger gamers possibly even children of the forum goers that come here and they shouldn't get the impression on some of these types of things. That means to take a moment before posting on a deal what are the lengths a regular consumer has to go through or how many hoops, hurdles they have to pass to get to that finish line in getting the product the desired result. A real deal doesn't require so many steps usually to work right. Prime examples of deals you should report if you didn't know: Websites and instore promotions, coupon deals, availability of hard sought figures found on various online retailers (amazon.whatever country, etc). Anything that fits into this you should expect others to be skeptical of because it's too shady and in most cases the retailer might not be as kind in dealing with your transaction as most. So in closing, its good to have a discussion like this at times for some of these deals if in fact you could really be able to do them as in again everyone. I told you before in a post you won't be the last one to post on a "deal" that really takes a stretch to work. It's best to discuss on it first and look into of before getting all riled up and excited that it's going to work.

I read about the deal on another site and only after attempting it without a hitch did I share the information on this site. A sack of chips can turn into a free item if you find the right sale, have the right coupons and know a store that doubles your coupons. You keep insisting like there is some evil act of coercion on my part and others that is needed to push the deal through. This has simply not been the case. The percentages you quote are baseless and without merit. Has it ever occurred to you that this simply could be a call for local managers to make? No you didn't, you only want to blame the customer for being deceitful and immoral. That my friend it what I find harmful in your posts. What also irks me is the fact that ever since I have started posting here I have been forced into a defensive stance. I initially posted with the intent on providing information that didn't appear to be widely known before. It wasn't until after several attacks on my character did I turn the tone of my posts to be more abrasive. And finally regarding the song. It was my attempt at humor in a thread that was getting overly negative. It wasn't in any way bragging about my so called fraudulent activities. The song would have included lines about me buying 6 for my Uncle Craig. It didn't as it is something I am not a fan of myself.

Just to throw my $0.02 into the arena (although I may regret it later):
I had my doubts about this and largely ignored this thread until the photos of a receipt where it had worked were posted. Having a complete set of McDonald's toys and several family members who love Skylanders but never ended up with a set of their own, I set out to see if it would work. I didn't coerce anyone, try to circumvent the system, etc., and, in fact, was rung out by the floor manager of the Target I was at. He looked at the TRU ad, price matched, rang through the preorder, blinked, read everything on the back of the preorder card as well as the Target Sunday flier, shrugged, and then accepted the McDonald's coupons without a word. He actually commented, "Wow, that's a fantastic deal." As my local Target only had a single 360 bundle and I needed two, I went to the next one up the road and repeated the deal, again being rung out at the service desk by the floor manager with no issues (just a lot of careful reading) and another comment to the effect of the first one regarding how great a deal it was. Is this a moral gray area? Very possibly. Is it "illegal" or somehow outside of Target's policies? Apparently not. If I was going to be shut down by anyone, the floor managers would certainly have been the ones to draw the line, say no, etc. Especially since a $30.00 price drop can't be approved at Target by your regular floor associates. What some are calling exploitation of Target can just as easily be called taking advantage of a perfect situation. Perhaps this is blocked in Target's system now, but as of Wednesday it was not. Seeing as companies can't reveal their sale/promotion intentions to one another without incurring some serious legal repurcussions, this was likely a once in a lifetime occurrence, a "perfect storm," if you will. I'm not perfect and I gave in and took advantage of the situation due to it being so fantastic a deal. But did I actually steal anything or break Target's policies? Not as they were expressed to me as a consumer and enforced by their senior store staff. And, again, unless Target actually set their systems up to block this since Wednesday, this can be used by just about everyone. -Doug

What I don't get regarding some of the actions of people on this thread is why they seem to be purposely set out to make this deal not work? Why go to multiple Targets just to ask a manager or associate whether a certain scenario would work or not without attempting it themselves? Certainly any worker when asked is probably going to tell you that getting a $70 item for $1 isn't something that can be done. But if you actually present all of your information as a sales transaction and have it work in the system then praised by management, what harm is there? Why become this ridiculous crusader against such a special deal? Certain individuals should stop their judgmental posts directed towards others they know nothing about.

FYI, Targets ad starting on Sunday is now only giving you $20 off the price of Giants with the Swap-Force pre-order. Given that the McD coupon is still valid on Sunday it might be a good idea to check out Best Buy and Toys R Us flyers for that week as well for another price match opportunity. Provided of course this hasn't been shut down by Target altogether as some have previously reported. We certainly won't see another $1 opportunity again but it might provide a more reasonable sale that the ultra moralistic individual would be able to swallow.
Edit: No help from Best Buy this week.

1) Thank you for you kind welcome 2) Do you remember the movie School of Rock where Jack Blacks character asks the kids if they have any food? Do you remember the voice he uses when he tells the kids "don't worry, you not going to get into trouble". Well I would like to use that same voice in this reply "don't worry, nobody is going to get fired". 3) Go ahead and inform your loved ones that they wont be seeing you again because I am going to ask you to read through this thread in which your mind will be blown. I just wish I could provide a filter to you so that you didn't have to read some of the extra garbage that some have been inclined to post.
