I am new on this forum and this is my first post so be gentle to me but I think I have found a way to get a Skylanders Giants starter pack for $.99 or less. At Target the Giants starter pack goes for $69.99. In Toys R Us Sunday ad tomorrow they have the starters packs on sale for $39.99. Target is offering a $30 discount on a Giants starter pack with a $1 preorder of Swap-Force.....So with all that being said if you price match the Toys R Us deal at Target to get the starter pack down to $39.99 then get the $30 off with the preorder it would bring you down to $10.99. Lastly if you use the McDonalds coupon that is still valid for $10 off a starter pack it should bring you down to $.99. Your Target Red Card will give you another 5% off your purchase too. I found most of this information off cheapassgamer.com but then realized the McDonalds coupon is still good. This could be one hell of a deal.

^ Thanks for posting and welcome to the forum =)!
I'm thinking that this won't work especially if the deals say in the fine print that they're not valid or applicable/stackable with other offers (which almost all coupons and deals will say this). I've priced matched with Toys'R'Us before, and in almost every scenario, they will only let you choose their deal or the one that you're matching, but not both. But, it's worth a shot and I would like to hear if anyone is able to achieve it.

Thanks for the welcome! My experience with Target has been that they would allow stacking as I described above. I am going to try it in the morning and see how it works. Might be a good way to get a Punch Pop Fizz for cheap.

Highly, highly unlikely that you will get this accomplished. But I've been surprised before. Please note that if you do find a salesperson/cashier who is dumb enough to allow you to walk out the door with a $0.99 Starter Pack, then you will probably be getting that employee fired, or at the very least, reprimanded and put on probation.
Don't do it. Welcome to the forum.

I am interested in what makes you think that somebody would get fired over something that is store policy for the company they work for? We won't know the details regarding the stipulations on the $30 off pre-order of Swap Force until tomorrow, but even if you can't use the McDonalds coupon, $10.99 is pretty amazing.

Most retailers will only give you their sale or the price match, not both.
There is no way that you honestly expect a store to match a competitors price, give you their discount, and apply a coupon. Most fine print on any sale is going to say "cannot be used with any other offer or discount". I wouldn't be expecting much when you try this.

Hi, i work at Target. I can assure you if this happened at my register i would most likely get penalized or possibly fired. Speaking as a cashier I know that this is not possible to do in Electronics or at the checkout lanes. All price matches are done at guest service. Only one of those deals may be applied. But you should still be able to use the coupon because technically it is valid and target as a company will still get reimbursed that $10 for the coupon. So that brings you down to $29.99 for a starter pack. If you use your red card (u'd b smart to b using our debit one) then you will knock off an additional $1.50 so your total would be $28.49 plus tax which is still a great deal. Please dont pressure them to apply both deals because if they do they will get in trouble. Most would call over their LOD (manager) who would most likely tell you the same thing i just said

Well looking at the advertisement for Target it only lists the $30 off as being a "save $30" on Giants with Swap-Force preorder. So having Target price match the ToysRUS ad price should have no effect on the "savings" you get from the preorder. Additionally, the McDonalds coupon doesn't say anything on it about not being able to be used with any other promotion. In fact it was about a month ago when I believe ToysRUs was offering the starter pack for $35 which I then price matched that at Target while still using the McD coupon. With Red Card I only paid $24.XX for PS3 Giants including tax without a hassle. I am not saying that this will 100% work and I wouldn't suggest anybody that has a long drive to get to a Target to attempt it, but given my past experience with the people at Target I don't see why this wouldn't work.

Here is a link to the discussion on CAG regarding this. http://www.cheapassgamer.com/t...ate-3999/page-3
ace, if you work there I am sure you know what is up so it sounds like it unfortunately wouldn't work....too bad though. Just wanted to give people on this site a heads up on what could of been a killer deal. $30 is still pretty awesome though. It looks like they just dropped the starter packs down to $59.99. So with -$30 and the $10 coupon it would bring it down to $20. Still a great deal.

Because Target is already taking a $30 loss with their sale. Price matching and taking advantage of the swap-force sale would give them a loss of $60. It would also be against store policy and can get people in trouble. If that doesnt bother you then go for it.

You don't have to be rude by insinuating that I want to try to get somebody fired. Who the hell would do that on purpose? I read your response and if that is how it is then no big deal. Again, I was only trying to pass along information from another site that I thought others on here would find useful.

The problem is though that on CAG some of the posters can get a little gung ho with the shady deal stacking. There are a few people that will lean heavily on the employees/manager and sometimes get away with it, then they proudly brag about their score. Most people will mention "YMMV" (Your Mileage May Vary), but not always. There is lots of good info, but you have to filter out these kinds of things. |

I guess I don't have those evil intentions like others do. Thinking about getting a whole starter pack for $.99 doesn't make sense up front. And on the retail end it makes even less sense but looking at each piece individually I just honestly thought it added up. If you price match, it brings you down to $40.99, if you preorder Swap Force like the ad says (without any stipulation) you save $30 bringing you down to $10.99, using the $10 coupon from McD shouldn't have any issue on the adjusted price which brings you to $.99. If Target had worded the preorder sale differently by giving an exact amout they would charge for the Giants starter then this discussion would have never been brought up.

Actually i would have missed your post completely if defpally hadnt of quoted it. i was scrolling down to reply to u when i saw his post and had no idea where the quote came from.
So again i apologize for the confusion. My frustration wasnt meant to be aimed at you. We get a lot of people throughout the day who try things like this or sometimes even worse, and no matter how many time you tell someone THEY are always right which is why i am trying to get switched out of cashiering for good

Not trying to say you had evil intentions, just it sometimes happens on CAG (and much, much worse on SlickDeals). Some people have bragged about raising a fuss on a hapless cashier/manager until they caved on a stacking deal they knew full well they had no right to.

Went to Target today and everything worked without a hitch. Supervisor completed every step through the transaction. I ended up getting a 3DS Giants Starter Pack for $1.87 which includes the $1 pre-order deposit on Swap Force. This all appears to be complete legit on Targets end so I was able to pick up Punch Pop Fizz that I wanted without paying much for the whole pack or buying it off of somebody on Ebay for $35.

How do you figure this? All I did was present the ad, gave them my coupon and paid for the pre-order. They didn't think twice about it. They didn't question anything in no way did I get upset or try to persuade them in any way. Their policy is to price match, Targets ad offered a $30 savings with pre-order and I had a $10 coupon, simple as that. Stop trying to make me look bad for something I did. If the supervisor would have even hinted anything to me that what I was doing was against store policy or that she couldn't do it then I would have easily just let it go. You are painting a picture of me that is inaccurate and you are making yourself look like a fool. The pre-order deposit even shows up first before the price match on my receipt.

If one person in this thread can honestly say they haven't taken advantage of something in life (be it anything), they have the ability to throw stones at a glass house.
No human goes through life NOT taking advantage of something they normally shouldn't. Gooch, I think you got lucky, honestly. I wouldn't mind trying (neighbor across the street needs a Punch Pop Fizz), but I think it's one of those cases where each store will vary. If you got lucky, grats. I just don't think everyone can get their local Target's manager/supervisor to do the same thing. It would be cool, though, for those out there seeking to add to their collection, or for those who need or want Punch Pop Fizz.

I for one do not go through life trying to get the better of everyone around me. I spot these people in life and I avoid them. That isn't to say that if I don't see the possibility for a deal that I don't at least try it. The Target people in my area don't ever give me the impression that they would be easily put over anyway. I respect the people that work there and enjoy going there with my family opposed to the Wal-mart experience. I understand that some of you may be wary how others "take advantage" of situations I really don't believe that this falls under that example. Would everyone be pissed to know that my Son and I waited in line an hour before Gamestop opened yesterday to get our Polar Whirlwind to make sure we got one? We were the first in line and we got one without issue. Would it piss any of you off to know that I used a $10 off on any item PUR coupon to pay for her which let me walk out the door with her for $1.07? I say if there is anyone out there interested in trying to do what I did at Target to give it a shot. If you are shot down then respectfully walk away, no harm in trying. If I was such a devil I could print out multiple McD coupons and buy the store out but I didn't and I wouldn't. I got one for my collection and I am being treated like a criminal without a conscious.

Like Game said it depends on the store. Your target allowed it and thats cool, others won't. Reminds me awhile back when amazon has the battle pack for 9.99 and swarm for 2.99 on one freak day. Some ppl went to target and got those offers pre-price match. I tried 2 walmarts and 2 targets neither would do it cause it was online. So ya it depends on the store. Another example is stacking the MCdonalds coupons. Some did it some couldn't.
Anyways, welcome to the forum and welcome to skylanders |

In hopes not to start another "fraud" discussion, I'll put my two cents in. For one, this has been duplicated, so it does work. But here's my theory on how it works, because it's similar to the TRU deals they always have on Disney blu-rays. By purchasing the pre-order with the starter pack, it's like a store coupon, lowering the price $30. If you price match to $39.99, then add the pre-order, it just subtracts the $30 just as if you presented a store coupon. Because you can stack a store coupon with a manufacturer's coupon, it all works. I would have questioned it, as it really depends on how the computer handles everything. But it seems to work for several people. I would say, though, that you would have to price match before you did the pre-order. As for getting them so cheap, I've picked up a many items that cheap just by stacking sales, store coupons and manufacturer coupons. There was a time when doing the pre-order deals for Disney blu-rays at TRU would get you out the door with blu-rays for $1 or less, and it was all legit and everyone did it. It's just knowing how to stack the deals. This seems to work with no hassle, so you can't complain about people hassling the employees to give them the deal. I'd say, if you want to try it, then try it. If there's a problem with it, then just walk away from it.

I just got back from Target at lunch...and they told me (here in Indianapolis store) that I had to pick if I wanted the price match or the $30 off pre-order. Per them: the cash register programming can't do both.

Is the portal that comes with Battlegrounds the only one with Bluetooth capability? It would be nice to get a cheap Bluetooth portal, but I know it wouldn't work with this deal. Thought about getting the 3DS version to get Punch Pop Fizz, but might pick up a different version if the portal worked for iOS. I didn't think there was, but I thought I'd ask.

Actually everyone here should make fun of you on the fact of how ignorant you are being overall. Because if you ever bought things at stores and used things like price match or price guarantee that they NEVER do both types of deals. You're opting into either and it would still be the same price so if you didn't preorder swap force you can go the price match deal of 39.99 and use the $10 coupon for 29.99 or put down $1 and get 30 off a starter pack and get it for 39.99 and then use the $10 coupon and get it for 29.99. Most have told you this because many and almost all businesses which is the key word here have so many measures put together so they don't take such a loss. Trying to do what you are doing is basically fraud. Coupons give retailers that amount back so they are not taking a loss, but when you try to stack deals for your benefit to which both paths arrive at the same amount would be no feasible reason a person would stack them unless they wanted to get fired. What you and some people don't understand is the other person that's taking the time to ring up your order. Just because they get paid for it doesn't mean they can sit there and help you out and they get screwed over. If you want to give out good information, be sure to check first on how lawful it is before passing it along.

tigerdr, if you would have read all of my posts on here you would realize that what I did was not wrong. If it was then it wouldn't have happened. I presented all of my info to the Supervisor and she processed it accordingly. Who the hell are you to judge me on what is lawful? Again, if what I was attempting had been rejected by the cashier then I would have been cool with it and went about my day. What hoops did I have to jump through to obtain my outcome? None, I gave her the ad, the coupon and preordered Swap-Force with nothing said other than "have a nice day". As far as the cash register not allowing the transaction to go through, that is simply not the case. Furthermore, don't post garbage with your foolish attempts at policing the forums. If you have an issue with something I post then report me and let the mods handle it, if you can't bring yourself to do that then would you kindly un-douche yourself from this thread?
As far as the portal on the 3DS version is concerned it is connected by IR not bluetooth. The IOS Starter Pack uses a bluetooth portal but that is not considered a Giants Starter Pack so I don't believe any part of this deal would work towards it.

This is a really good deal and it works great. Price match Toys 'R' Us, get the $1 preorder and that gives you $30 off, then use the coupon for $10 off. Brings the total to $0.99 plus tax. I visited a Target today and got 4 of the 3DS starter packs and wanted the deal, but they couldn't find the preorder cards at all (we looked for about 15 minutes), so they gave me the $30 off on each (except 1 at $29.96) and I didn't need to preorder anything or pay anything. Here's the proof:

No, there is no limit as far as the pre-orders are concerned. When I grabbed the cards from the electronics counter and the cashier came over to me he asked me which systems I wanted it for any how many each. Actually, now that I read the back of the card it does say "Limit of 4 identical coupons per household, per day" so bigdaddy81 probably shouldn't have gotten away with all 6 of them but I will refrain from chastising him. Too bad the cards haven't been available for some as it shows on them that if you place it on the Swap Force portal it will activate in-game character upgrades. Personally, I don't even plan on buying Swap Force through Target, there are much better deals around. The ToysRUs pre-order is going to be amazing considering you get 2 Giants figures upon pickup and if we apply the $10 off coupon we get from the Lays chip promotion it should be a good day for Skylanders fans. I pre-ordered both the PS3 and the 3DS versions of the game considering that both version has 3 completely different pack-in figures unlike just the one Punch Pop you got for Giants.

She told me she wished that she had the patience to do things like it. I just told her that if I didn't see it posted on another website I wouldn't have thought of it either.

I would like to not be rude on things like this but in all due respect these types of ways to get discounts hit a big grey area. Many of those that do take part in purchasing the games for family members especially their children are supposed to be setting examples, and to one it shouldn't be to screw over a retailer in hopes of getting the merchandise in closeness to fraud. Getting either a price match or the in store promotion on an item is usually how business works with it and the use of a manufacturer's coupon is fine because the retailer gets their money back. When a deal seems too good to be true like this and attempting to use six of those 10 buck coupons nearly in the same manner, it's not the message you want to send because you aren't hurting the overall business you are shopping at, but the store that is local. That means you affect someone's job in putting them in that position. It might be a nice scenario to discuss with a son or daughter that the 99 cent skylander starter you got cost someone their livelihood as that person's receipt will dictate very possibly. It's on a store basis and while it is a grey area to try, it all depends on how a higher up or manager feels on it. If you don't go out to basically mess with the business in a sense that they feel ok with it, then there's no real qualm with it. The fact is though that you basically exploited two different promotion type things at once, and in many cases the defining moment of price matching is that it is placed in the same category as using another promotion like the 30 bucks off. You aren't supposed to get both because they lose money on it. All sales are at times is a store's loss in hopes you will buy more in covering their loss to give you a good cheaper. In doing this, they're basically losing over 50 bucks to sell you a game. As already put in the other paragraph, that employee most likely will have a discussion as purchases can be tracked of items which can lead to termination.

Taking that last ride through the sunset on skylanders. Hopefully a return of more classic spyro gameplay in the horizon. |

Are we really going down this path again tigerdr? You show me proof that a single person has gotten fired over this and I will stand on the tallest hill in my crappy little town and yell at the top of my lungs that I am the biggest fraud ever to grace this planet. Why am I or anyone else on these forums that have taken part in this deal a fraud and others that go to a grocery store with a binder full a coupons, take advantage of sale prices and double coupon policies to get their 7 carts of groceries down from an original asking price of $832 down to $2.47? Those people are called Extreme Couponers, they have a show on TV all to themselves, they are celebrities! And we are reduced to thieves by holier-than-thou, self appointed, forum police. At ease soldiers! Everything is going to be alright!
