I was worried about fingerprints wrecking it and the paint fading after time, but I'm mainly going to put my repainted characters on display and not play with them, so I guess that it really doesn't matter.

I'm going to order some Chinese protos soon, and any ones that don't work in game, I'll custom. But seeing as how I am with paint (unsteady hand, combined with the need for absolute perfection rarely ends well), I might just cut some fabric and create cloaked versions or something along that line. I can already taste an Organization XIII Eye Brawl...

^ That sounds cool, I can't wait to see what you create =)! I also am a perfectionist and have a pretty unsteady hand due to nerve damage. I did paint a Whirlwind over a year ago, but I haven't posted it because I'm not happy with it and it's nothing compared to all of the great customs on here.

I don't have nerve damage, I'm just really tense. I'll only post it/them here if I'm happy with them as well.
Btw, just checking, but how safe is glue on the figures?

You want to use a glue that won't eat too much at the plastic, but at the same time strong enough to hold the pieces that you're gluing.

You're using fabric, right? Fabric glue is meant for gluing fabric-to-fabric, but I'm not sure if it'll work well using it to hold plastic to fabric. Model glue is good for figures, but it is meant to slightly eat at the plastic to cement it together, so it will make the fabric stiff or eat at it too much. So, it can be hard making the right choice in glue when you're mixing media like this. I would suggest testing different glues on pieces of fabric that aren't important and gluing them onto scrap plastic pieces. I would suggest testing super glue (might be too harsh), fabric glue and/or spray-on adhesive.

But in general, most or all glues are going to wreck your fabric, make it stiff, discolored, or not adhere at all to the plastic.

Actually, the more that I think about it, your best bet might be double-faced fabric tape; I've used it on plushies that I've made and it seems to hold up well. You should be able to find it at your local hobby store (I get mine at Hobby Lobby).

If you just want to glue plastic to plastic, I would use a good quality model glue (remember not to slop too much on or it'll look sloppy or eat at the figure). Model Masters and Testers make good "cementing" model glues.

That is so cool! Great job. My son has shelves with his figures on it and he makes little "families" with them. But they are normally groups of three --first because that is the most he has of each and secondly because he is an only child. I'm going to have to show him your customs. He will be so impressed. I'm always so happy that he does other things with his Skylanders other than just playing the video game. He plays little games with them, his friends have made up all sorts of real games with rules etc. They play chess. I love that he uses his imagination. It would be cool if he started making customs with them. Keep on making such cool creations!

Nope, purple swirl on his back or a cape. There is also White Knuckles. The final detail is a secret.

Thanks Matteomax. The sculpt is really bad with no real definition, so some parts look just like blobs of paint. Well it is definitely better than the way it started off.

my ninjinis face is weird, because one half of the face completely lights up. anyone know how to fix it without making it look like crap? :/

Agreed. I have two Scarlet Ninjinis. The face paint looks great on both when not on the portal. You wouldn't know one looks like a burned victim when on the portal. I may sell, customize, or give it away. I'm fortune my regular Ninjini looks great on the portal.

How do you take these apart to paint? I've made custom sports figures for years and would like to do one of these for my kids.

I'm thinking a Chop Chop with a 49ers jersey would be right up his alley.

For the people asking about sealing them after painting, use Krylon Krystal Clear (this will make it very glossy) which can be found in the spray paint dept. at Wal-Mart. If you don't want it to have the shiny finish, follow that up with a couple coats of Testors Dullcoat spray which can be found at hobby stores like Hobby Lobby and Michael's in the model paint section.

I know what I'll do with my extra jet vac...
