Unless a big-named production company (Disney, Warner Bros., 20th Century Fox etc) buys into the franchise. I'm pretty sure if someone tossed some money Activision's way, I'm pretty sure a TV show or movie could be quite a possibility. It's not the first time it's happened... Super Mario Bros, The Legend of Zelda, Sonic the Hedgehog, Street Fighter II and Pokemon all got TV Shows and some of those even got movies.

Honestly I never expected a Skylanders Cartoon or movie. If it ever did happen, I'd expect something like this: The cartoon following the story of the novels (Machine of Doom and Mask of Power Series) and the Movies following the games (except there's probably like one kid becoming a lone portal master, instead of the many of us and the scalpers buying the multiple figures of each skylander). Of course that's assuming there'll be a skylanders trilogy of movies too. I'd consider the 3DS games, if mentioned at all, to be like hour long TV specials. I mean using this they don't even have to get ideas themselves. Maybe we can hope a company takes up interest later.

Well, to be honest, most of the times, studios go to the creators of said liscense they want to make a TV show about.
So, let's say no one tries to, but I sell movies to Hollywood and want to try and nab the liscense. I have to put together a proposal and see what happens next. So, while ActiBob said it may not be happening now, that's because no one's went to them yet. It could happen at any time, though, and ActiBob's stance will probably change.

If it's in the wrong hands. However, in the right hands, the show can be funny, build lore, have a continuity to it, while also having some one-off episodes. It can be a perfect blend of storytelling, action, and comedy. It would have to fall into the hands of people who really relate to the Skylanders brand and understand how the franchise works.

I really don't know. Knowing Activision, they've got Dollar Signs in their eyes. A TV show could either be a grand money making opportunity or a waste of the green. A TV show would be risky towards the Dollar Signs.

DreamWorks originally had the rights to Spyro, but decided to go in the direction of How to Train Your Dragon instead... it's sad, because HTTYD got a crappy spin-off show on Cartoon Network with poor ratings, and Spyro would have evolved into the ever-popular Skylanders with many possibilities.

Unfortunately it won't be back for another season. And neither will DreamWorks other series Monsters vs Aliens (Based on the movie of the same name), However the "Shrek's Thrilling Tales" that was aired over Halloween last year was such a success that they are planning a full "Shrek" TV series to be aired in early 2014. It probably won't be long before DreamWorks decide to make an" Infinity" style game, given the number of animated CGI movies under their belt. But then again, I can't think of a DreamWorks game that has been an overly big success.

Disney/Pixar only come up with original ideas and source material. They do not delve into other franchises, like Skylanders unless they were to completely buy out that franchise i.e. Marvel and Star Wars.

I fear that a movie would just be Skylanders-try-to-take-down-Kaos. Again. If they make proper AAA-level, emotionally investing dialogue, or include a lot of mysterious lore again like SSA, it might be worth seeing. But they shove Kaos as "the funny Butt Monkey" everywhere, and it's getting extremely tiring- why see the movie if it has the same story as the games and doesn't add any layer of mythos to them? Seriously, why not a new villain in a completely new place that actually feels like a threat and isn't so stupid that they quite literally give their enemies the sources to defeat them?!?! I'm not saying it can't happen, but just putting Kaos everywhere is the easiest way for them to get the target audience's attention, ergo, that is probably what they would do. I feel like they haven't put one sand as much effort into the writing after SSA, both versions of Giants had terrible stories.
I would love a TV show, since even if it were badly made then it would connect us with the characters more(well... Unless it's So Bad It's Horrible-level, filled with nothing but Cali rolling her eyes), because we'd see more of them when they aren't fighting minions. I have a pre-sunken feeling about that one, though, especially since if they change around voices and such every game, they're gonna have to pull a lot of Retcons. |

Why do you feel it would dilute anything? I think it would strengthen the franchise and expand the following of skylanders. It may peak the interest of more children to the franchise, instead of all the 35 year olds who find the toys cool the collect and horde to scalp on ebay. After all this is a game designed and geared for 6-12 year olds. I hope they do finally decide to make a movie or show down the line, it would be a shame if they don't. Children love the 3-5 minute commercials they have made for ssa and sg. If the show or movie were made with the same sense of wonderment it could only be a start of a whole new set of stories and lore to expand the future games in the series.

Just imagine if they made a movie and gave away a free sidekick on the opening day, or a similar promotion. There are so many avenues this could take, I don't see how activision is thinking clearly. How could they just dismiss the idea. They would make money no matter what, even if the movie was bad. Kids would love it just cause it has their favorite characters in it. Similar to what Disney has been doing for years. I don't even like frito lay chips yet I bought 4 bags of them for the promotion. Activision isn't here to make children happy as much as they are out for the almighty dollar.

Well, everyone, the reason they don't have a show, is because no one has approached them to pitch the idea for a show.
After I finish fixing up my second screenplay, I plan on shoveling out a mess of Skylanders scripts... for fun. I already have some episode ideas in mind, using the Teaser/Opening/2-Act structure. I can always hope something comes of them in time. If not, it's still fun to create my own episodes to enjoy. I may post them as PDF files for people to download and read as fanfiction if nothing can ever come of them. But, only time will tell.

Actually the Riders of Berk cartoon isn't that bad and it actually got a second season which premiers next month in september. CN basically has the rights to it for each season as there will be a different title for it for each season as the first two take place before the second movie and the other seasons will follow before the 3rd. Dreamworks no doubt will probably make their own game at some point in skylanders fashion, but it would be interesting if they chose to do their movies in a cross over like infinity which is very possible. Honestly I do see a series of skylanders coming out at some point, most likely done in cgi or whatever compared to hand drawn. Just the voice overs would be interesting who they got to play each character if they can't get the game cast together. Basically skylanders is this decade's pokemon and after watching that on CN today they need to retire that. Seeing how Ash can't win the major battles while game play you do is depressing and too predictable, but back on track that it would be fitting for skylanders to get some sort of show so who knows? If they decide to only make up to swap force and work in a show for awhile before another game after, it's possible.

I'll mention one thing about Riders of Berk, I did NOT like the Thawfest games episode. I know it was trying to advertise good sportsmanship, but the way it showed it suggested that being a good sport requires losing. Heck, if you ask me, throwing a match is the OPpOSITE of good sportsmanship. ...Still, I liked the show otherwise.
Monsters VS Aliens not having another season!? ...Meh. Don't care. Won't miss. A Dreamworks version of Infinity I might like. ...If done well. Frankly, I wouldn't mind a per-dominant Pixar DI either. As for a Skylanders show? I think it's for the best they don't. |

Well to compete with Disney they easily could with the different movies they've made. Megamind comes to mind to compete with anything incredibles. Throw in Shrek, Kung Fu Panda stuff, Madagascar, How to Train your dragon at this rate. It's possible and when there gets to be too many following the trend, yeah most or all the games might not work in the end there. Depends though what Activision wants to do with it. They might pull a whole viva pinata type thing and only have spyro in very few segments if they did. I still would say not to rule it out of that whole thing changing, if they are making billions now on the figures, a tv show done a certain way might be an easy investment. Seems they've done everything else except that now.
