I have quite a few skylanders by now.
Opened a little more than half of them and it HURTS :/
Are you in the same situation, regretting opening them?
Any advice on getting "over" it?

I'm thinking of just opening the rest because when playing its kinda annoying have them in the pack.
Just trying to get some input. Dont think I will ever go around selling them, just trying to to convince myself |

It's fine to open common ones, but leave variants and rare ones sealed!

Or just open all of them- they are toys- and wont be worth anything in the future i imagine, expect possibly the very very rare figures, and even then...

^ Agree with t7gga.
If opening a boxed toy is one of your biggest regrets in life or one of the biggest "hurts" you have experienced, then you've lived a VERY sheltered life. Get out more.

I just keep it because..
Some day, they'll be worth 15x their normal price, and I won't be into it anymore.

I only regretted opening one skylander. Chill. And that's because right after I did, I realized I should've left her in the box in case I found her triple so I could get S2 Ignitor adn then return the single I got. A little glue and that was fixed. (Don't judge me!!!!)
Other than that, I don't ever recall regretting opening anything. If I did, I must've gotten over it pretty quickly.

Here's something for you all to take in...
I'm 30 years old and a huge Star Wars fan, I've been collecting Star Wars stuff most of my life and most of the stuff has been sealed since I was 10 years old. In 2007, I had ammassed a huge collection which filled an entire room in my house plus half of a 3ftx3ft storage shed. My daughter was due to be born in a couple of months, and we needed the room for her, So I started selling off my collection. I advertised in the local paper, on the internet and on eBay. All in all it too me a good 12 months to sell everything... it all seemed to sell very slowly, in bits and pieces and I never got anything near my asking price, not even the rarer ( I owned a prototype Boba Fett with firing jetpack and a 1977 Jawa with vinyl cape mint in packet) items I basically had to sell at bargain bin prices. So my advice to you all is this: Play Skylanders, have fun, enjoy collecting, but DO NOT expect to make a fortune when selling. It doesn't matter how long you let it mature or how rare a certain Skylander will be you will never get as much as youre expecting to get for it no matter how much you see others going for on eBay or other sites. My aim is to collect a full set of series 1 (no dark or legendary variations) then get the 8 new Skylanders and the 8 Giants in series 2. Wont be collecting to sell them, but keep them for future nostalgia - mostly for my kids sakes.

I open all of them, for I don't understand the need to collect them. It's a money and time consuming hobby, and when you are ready to sell them, nobody cares anymore.

Open them, if you're looking to "invest" (I use the term loosely because the average person today has their head up their a** when it comes to investing), do it in something bigger that isn't a fad. Invest in NES or SNES if you're doing it via gaming, if not then contact appropriate tipsters. I tear all my Skylanders open because I want to play with them (other than ones I could possibly trade with internet friends for Skylanders I can't get for retail around here)!

As others have said, most won't be worth anything beyond the scope of the game's lifecycle and even then it's best to be able to enjoy them. For me, I'll open a majority of them when those cases get cheaper so they can all be moved about better and then I'll just use those for convienience. It's best to enjoy them as in a few years they will be low value.

Taking that last ride through the sunset on skylanders. Hopefully a return of more classic spyro gameplay in the horizon. |

Only one- my Target LC 3 Pack. I didn't realize until I had already opened it that LC Drobot was missing his lower jaw. If I would have kept it sealed I could have taken it back for a regular one. With that JCP sale they had where you could get basically any Wave 1/2 figure for free, I was very tempted to get another LC Drobot but then I was like "Ehh...this one is fine". It just makes mine all the more unique.
Outside of that, I think t7gga is spot on. I don't think Skylanders will ever really be super rare (even the asking prices now for some of the variants are silly). I can't wait for a day some time in the future, where my kids or grandkids open up a box of these things called "Skylanders" in my attic and ask grandpa what the heck these things are.

I open all the base skylanders seen in the poster (ie. 8 Giants, 8 Newlanders, 8 LC). But leave variants sealed (ie. Gold Flameslinger, GitD Sonic Boom, L-LC Chill.

The only one I haven't openned is Scarlet Ninjini, and that's only because I already opened normal Ninjini.
I'm collecting them all, but I started collecting them to play the game and the gameplay experence comes first. The figures (especially the ones in the multipacks) are no use to me sealed. |

I never regret opening mine, but I have inventory for open vs keep boxed. I'm even considering opening up some of my chase stuff eventually, but not today. I've got enough opened that I still need to upgrade lol.
Never collected toys in my life (young or otherwise) until my son and I embarked on this journey. "Value" for the short term sellers will be ~20% to 100% depending on character... will be interesting to see how history treats these guys in 20 years.

All of this ^ To the OP- if it makes you feel any better I've kept ALL MINE boxed except for my extra Sunburn/Dragon's Peak from the first game- beyond that all are in the box still. If it feels bad to you to unbox them, then don't do it. Its your stuff do what you wish with it-
