What if...
Activision did a thing where if you sent a picture of your collection, they would send you a rare skylander?
Or they hid 10 golden tickets in skylanders across the world. Right behind the cards, there could be the chance of a golden ticket, allowing the recipient to tour toys for bob. That would get skylanders flying off the shelves!

Not bad ideas.
I like an idea that was presented by someone previously on these forums: something like: buy 3 Flashwings, 3 Cynders, and 3 Swarms, send in your receipts and UPCs, and you'll receive a "special" color variant character in the mail.

Send in a picture to get a rare Skylander? Why in the world would Activision give away something for free? What criteria would be needed to get a figure?
Golden tickets for a tour? This isn't a chocolate factory. It's a video game design office. Can't imagine it would be very exciting for a kid to tour, to be honest. "Look, Johnny, here are the computers we use." Who needs 3 flashwings, 3 cynders or 3 swarms? That's $100 right there. If you really want a chase variant, just buy it outright on eBay. Something like this would serve to empty shelves, however, so retailers would love it.

I should hunt down my other post and just copy paste it all the time. Every day until you learn! haha
Basically, Hot Wheels has a promotion every so often (possibly once a quarter? Once a year? Not too sure any more) where you buy 10 [Looks like now it's 20] of any regular Hot Wheels vehicle. You cut off the UPC code, send it in plus like $2.99 S&H, and they send out a specialty vehicle. This would be an absolutely perfect model for Skylanders now that everything is just kind of sitting on the shelves. Obviously it'd have to be scaled in some way (ie, something like 2 giants, or 3 regular figures), and probably still some sort of S&H, but really this is exactly what Activision needs to do. Especially because we all love our variants/whine about not being able to find them. It works as a win/win/win- Stores sell merch, allowing them to have more room to get more figures in, we get a variant and the possibility of figures we're missing coming in, and Activision gets both a happy customer and more dosh to build that Scrooge McDuck styled swimming pool vault.

The difference is that 20 Hot Wheels will cost you about $20. Two Skylanders puts you over that mark already.

Of course it would be scaled down. Hasbro occasionally runs a similar promotion where you buy 5 figures at $7 to $8 a pop and you get a special edition figure. It can be done. |
