Hello everyone,

I'm a first time poster, but long time Skylanders (and Spyro the Dragon) fan.

The title is pretty explainitory so I won't repeat myself.

First of all, I'd like to know how to remove Skylanders from their bases. Is there any easy method?

Secondly, what the the best technique to cover up LightCore Skylanders light up features before painting? I like to give it a undercoat spray before painting so all my paint binds to the figure properly.

Thirdly, what are the best (and most budget conscious) paint brands to use on Skylanders? I wanted to use Citadel Paints by Games Workshop, but they are far too expensive! Are there any paints that achieve the same quality and finish?

Thanks Guys and Gals, that is all.

I can survive scalding hot coffee and being whipped for 24 hours a day. Digestive biscuits or riot.

People have claimed using a hairdryer is a good way to get them off. You might also try a exacto knife if you're old enough.

Probably sealing the area up with some masking tape of some sort. When I made some solid gold colored figures, I just taped off the green part of the base.

Depending on your budget or preference, I've been using simple acryllic paint from Walmart. I dunno the brand, but it's only like $1.15-$2.00 a bottle. For what I'm doing, it's just fine.

LOL, old enough? I'm 30 years of age!

I started out buying Skylanders for my kids (ages 7, 6 & 3), feeling a little nostalgic as I played some of the Spyro games in my teenage years - but as most parents do (yet don't like to admit) I got hooked on the Skylanders craze myself.

I've been doing stuff with Citadel Minatures (Warhammer, Warhammer 40K, Lord of the Rings Strategy Battle Game) since I was about 12 years old, I've won a couple of awards at The Golden Demons (awards which accolade painters of Citadel Minatures products) and now as a father and family man, I don't really have the disposable income to collect and paint those things any more...

So I'm hoping that painting Spyro the Dragon and his friends will prove to be a much cheaper and much more rewarding (can't wait to see the looks on my kids faces) hobby for me to take on.

Hello! Well, I am a custom Skylanders figures artist, I have about 20 on my Deviantart account, here: http://krazykari.deviantart.com/
Anyways, one tip I have, is for painting a very small bit that would be hard with a paint brush, use a needle, since the tip is so small. That is what I use to paint all mine. It can take time though, but it is worth it. C: I use "Folkart" paint. I recommend metallic colors, they look much better on customs in my opinion.

Awesome work Kariana! truly inspirational... wish I was as good of a pen-to-paper artist as you, but my talent lies in a paintbrush... funny how people are artistic in one way but not another, lol

I have used Testors on the two that I did for Youtube. They came out good in my opinion. Bought at Michaels. But I am no master painter.

I use Testors, Citadel and Walmart brand acrylic paint. I've posted a few already on the forum and on my son's youtube page. I'm only painting our duplicate Skylanders and McD toys for fun. Can't wait to see more customs.
