Hi guys,

Wasn't quite sure where to put this,so.. I'll put it here.

I'm looking to get some display cases for my collection, and have seen quite a few on this site already those being the following:
http://img815.imageshack.us/im...20427231057.jpg
http://i1212.photobucket.com/a...lay_cabinet.jpg
http://i1212.photobucket.com/a...lay_cabinet.jpg

I live in the UK, and I'd like to display my figures somewhere little stackable cases would do, and I rather like the 2 bottom cabinets - so does anyone know where I can get my hands on one of these?

(I would prefer them to be UK based, and on a online site, or ebay if possible).

Thanks!

The second one actually belongs to a collector on here, he made it himself.

Ah, I see!

That'd make sense. I'm just trying to see if anyone knows any good, cheap ways of displaying.

After seeing the Disney Infinity display cases which stack up , I hope Activision releases some for skylanders i the future.

I'm wondering how you were able to make them? And how much overall it cost you to create one of them?

I remember those used to be on eBay, IIRC they were like $50 each. I was going to get something for display last year and found them, but I can't seem to track them down now...

^ Do you have your entire collection in these display cases? If so, can we see a few pics of your entire collection displayed?

^ nope, only 3 cases. 1 with customs, 1 with s1 variants and 1 with s2 variants

the mirror background really messes up photographing them in the cases. i'm actually considering getting plain black or white replacement backs for the cases

Depending on how tall the Disney Infinity figures are (and if they have something that they clip into inside of these things), the display boxes are stackable and actually a really awesome idea. Shame that Skylanders haven't figured out a way to make decent display things yet.

You probably wouldn't be able to put Giants in there obviously, but it looks like most regular figures should fit, sans the more bulky/tall characters.

If you're in the UK, you might want to check out Really Useful Boxes. They're kinda expensive to get shipped to the US, but they seem like an ideal solution. It's apparently a UK company, so it might be more affordable for you.

I've seen pictures of them on here before, and they're by far the most appealing readily available solution I've seen. Check post #10 in this thread:

Only problem is that those Really Useful Boxes are more for storage and not for display. I can see how they work well but not great for having your figures on the wall/shelf/etc. In plain view.

I've been trying to think of a design for my display and that just about personifies all the ideas I had in my head! I'd love to see an explanation of how you pieced it all together.

Thanks for the compliments guys.

@ Shinken Red - The process is actually very simple. I made the whole thing from a single sheet of 1/2 pink insulation foam, I got it home depot for $10. The pillars holding the giants up are 7 inch cake pillars I got from Michaels.

1 - cut out 10 rectangles, all will be 28" long. There are 5 different widths, you will need to of each. The top step is 2.5 wide, the second is 5" and so on.

2- to make steps cut a 4" wide 1" deep piece out of 1 of the two rectangles of each size.

3 - Glue each of the layes together. I used wood glue and spread it on with a paint brush, that thing is pretty sturdy. (Note, you could use 1" thick foam, instead of glueing 2 1/2 thick peices together, but 1" foam is harder to cut, more expensive, and its harder to make the stairs.

4- Draw the symbols and cut them out. Use a washer as or a bottle cap as a guide to cut out circles. since its stone, and should be chipped etc, I didn't worry about precision. Glue the symbols you cut out to the circle, then glue the circle to steps.

5 - Once all the glue is dry, distress the steps. The method I used was heating an old butcher knife on the stove and then touching the hot blade lightly against the foam. the foam will melt in natural looking patterns making it really easy. HINT - Change angles, parts of the blade, depth of cuts to get a varied look. HINT 2 - Melting foam lets off BAD FUMES, you should do this in a well ventillated area.

6 - Paint the entire thing black (dark grey, brown, or blue will also work). I used the giant bottles of paint they sell at walmart. After it dries, add highlights by mixing in some beige to your base paint color ( you could do white, but I think its too stark of a contrast). The easiest thing to do is dry brush. Dry brushing is when you put only a little paint on the brush, wipping almost all of it off, then brush gently over the surface. This part should be very light, almost like dusting. You will catch the raised parts and bring the color up, leaving the deeper parts dark and creating a shadow.

I agree his display is awesome. Great creativity and perfect execution. As for your comment about all figures fitting, that is where I have my issue. My son and I have a (IMO) nice wood display shelf we had all of our S:SA on. It all fit perfectly. Then we started to add S:G figures and has become so cramped. To the point that we have to decide what to keep on it and what to store. We have been debating about building a larger shelf to hold it all, but with S:SF coming are not sure how big to go to hold what that may entail. We are also debating keeping the S:SA shelf, Building a S:G shelf, and then making a 3rd when we figure out what S:SF would need.

But back to the point, everyone is different. Some want no display and storage is the issue. Others want to display just variants or chase figures. And some like myself just want to put it all in one place, easy to grab, without opening cases etc. So there is no perfect solution. Especially with the way the game is. Each time you build something, or have something made, more is released changing the storage needs.

No win situation.

Sure would be able to fit all of them in there, but highly doubt that it would fit into the budget.

@kappapopm - I suspect I will either need to design a new one or add to the existing one every year... But its fun to do.

In the meantime, I have enough room for one of each of the SSA & SG figs, and since I don't bother with variants I have enough room.

I doubt that Giants will fit, but for the record, Infinity characters are supposed to be much larger than Skylanders(Mike is apparently one of the smallest and you can see him up there thanks to T7gga), so when these come out they should fit a good portion of the regular Skylanders fine. smilie

@chi_madnes

maybe you should get that glass display and transform it into a big awesome castle with your foam. then you would have something special that you can just fill for years to come without worrying about space and dust...

@kappapopm - That's brilliant. An 8 shelf display with each shelf done up in one of the elemental categories....

Of course when I'm done, they will add 4 new elements or something crazy like that, lol.
