I think it would be nice if we could change our user names. I've heard users say it would be hassle for dark to change usernames for a lot of users but perhaps he could assign a mod to that job if they were willing? Or assign someone else for that specific task? They could be in charge of changing the names but not moderating the forums?

And if he made it so that ya can only change your name once every six/twelve months it wouldn't be a big hassle on dealing with large nubers of user names everyday?

It's not so much the hassle of the process of changing usernames as it is the hassle of recognizing who you are. Even if usernames could only be changed every half year or a year, that assumes that the whole community is expected to keep up with the times. It's not a very inclusive thought.

Well most forums I go on that have name changes program in/require you to have a "Formerly known as [insert old name here]" in their signature. I could see how that could be cumbersome. It's a shame, because I hate this username. <.>

I'm no that fond of my username either and I'm sure there's a lot. I see nothing wrong with the "formerly known as".
A lot of forums have that so it wouldn't be anything too fancy.

I hate my username, though im at least glad I didn't choose axympet as I originally was going to use *shivers*.Though couldn't we use a system similar to dA's?, like it would display "formerly known as "arceustheprime" for about two weeks under a persons username.

That way everyone would adapt to the users new name.

Well, it is a good idea, I do admit. Maybe once per 12 months, you could change your username. But so people knew who you were originally, there would be a topic where you posted your old and new username, so people knew who you were before your username changed. But I do support the idea.

I would change the number of my username. I forgot about dark52 when I made it.

I would love this as I hate my username. Since I'm known as CH, I'd just get rid of the 37, it really bothers me.

It would be nice to finally change my name to my most common online name "TrojanPon3"

Wikia has a username change, but you can only do it once.

This has its advantages and disadvantages:

Advantages:

• There are users who want to change their name because they already have currently do not like, or because in other websites have a different username, and want to have that username to here.
  
• It would avoid the be creating a lot of alternative user accounts, only for having the desired username.

Disadvantages:

• If the user change the username and not warns what was your old name, would begin some confusion between the forum and not would know who is who.
  
• It could have the user identity theft because someone can copy the same username as another user, and that sometimes is for evil purposes.
  

I give it a 50% - 50% of this. But, I would give a 100% "yes" if dark52 is responsible for this, or for a only one user 100% reliable, in case dark52 not have time for this.

On the forum I go on where usernames can be changed, a queue/cache of usernames is kept and the names are linked to the person who made them. So if someone else tries to take a name that another user used, they would be told they can't. <.<;

The biggest problem with this is that some people just change names constantly. Look at Skype. I know plenty of people who constantly change their "display name," sometimes more than once a day. The way to stop this is to put in a limit. Maybe it could function similar to the birthday changes. You only have a limited number at your disposal, so you have to use them wisely. <.<;

A limit does sound like something that could make the "Change User Name" idea possible.

Yea there's no real worry of having the same name stolen.

A limit on how many times you can change your name would work.
Even if you can only change it once, I'd be satisfied.

We have to do that on Serebii, and it isn't fun. People also get confused easily, so I think that people should just have to deal with the username they have.

That's why there'll be a limit, Bravo. We already discussed the problem with confusion and the solution was to have a limit on name change and for a some time have "Formally known as ____" near the new username.


I think there should be 4 chance to change a username and once you change it, you have to wait 5 months until you can do another username change. If the person reaches the limit, they'll have to stick to that name and the only way to change a username, should be through creating a new account. Like now.
There should be a huge ass warning when changing usernames too, like with the "Mark all post as read". Where it says "If you change your username, you won't be able to change it for 5 months. Are you sure you want to continue?"
And like the Birthday counter, have the number of how many usernames changes you have left.

The "Formally known as" could go in the signature, if there's a space issue. In red text and italics. Automatically put there when the user changes his/her username.

Or in the space under your gem count in the white box, so everybody can see it when you post

I'm all for it! I would just be worried about how it was handled. It would have to be like registering, because if not you could have two joerox123's and it would be a huge mess because we'd have 100's of Dark52's harassing new users. I personally hate my name, I made it a long time and would much prefer my name to change, but I don't want to lose my gems.

I think it would be cool too I would change it to something to suit my avatars better. I'm not tired of be¡ng Dummy, but It bdoesn't suit much :/
