If you haven't heard already, MegaBloks is doing a series of Skylander based figures.

I think they mostly have all of them so far or are scheduled for release at some point. There's a sticky right here for it.

Those ziffing pah'tak poodoo (and so forth) MEGABLOKS got the darned license first. Oh well, LEGO wouldn't have done it anyway, too many new molds. As MEGABLOKS uses low-qulaity plastics and molds, they can make as many new pieces as they want.

Compared to LEGO, Mega Blocks is pretty low quality.
As far as a LEGO game, that isn't gonna happen. They've never made a LEGO game based on a video game as far as I'm aware.

Maybe if Mega Blocks drops the license, LEGO can steal the license and make a new theme! That's what they did with Spider Man!

I must be the ONLY person on this thread who actually likes "Mega Bloks"- I like legos too of course.
But I'm currently working on getting all the Mega Bloks sets- while it would be epic if LEGO picked up the franchise and made sets themselves, I sadly don't see it happening.

Skylanders already is basically a LEGO game and SWAPforce is quite clearly a step even more in that direction. Not sure what the point of a Lego Skylanders game would be

The TT Lego games have been without exception amazing.

Quality games that my whole family has enjoyed (we have completed almost every one! On many formats too).

Due to the nature of the Original Skylanders game, making a LEGO game of it would not work, it would compete with the original games directly and split sales.
Also, the LEGO game wouldn't use a portal and that would hurt figure sales, so the whole thing is a no go from the start.

I would prefer real LEGO to mega-bloks sets, but ho-hum, we have what we have.

There is NOTHING stopping anybody making LEGO Skylanders sets from existing pieces, just google around for some of the other things people have made (search Lego MOC).

I look forward to seeing what you all can do smilie

Just because mega got license first means nothing. Mega had pirates of the caribbean first, then lego had pirates. Lego had the spider man movie maker sets beased on the 1st and 2nd spidey movie, but then mega got the rights to do marvel figures. But now lego has the rights to marvel and a marvel lego game comes out this fall. So if or when the mega license runs out on landers lego could acquire a new, or difrent license to make different skylander sets. I dont really see it happening but it isnt impossible.

At least for me, I've owned MegaBloks and Legos for a pretty good chunk of my life. Whenever I had Megabloks, they'd hold together for a bit, but they wouldn't always stay together- this was especially frustrating in creating objects that i'd play with (ie, cars, towers etc). Lego on the other hand held together more firmly and were all around of a higher quality.

I really can't say if this still holds true; Lego still is pretty high quality, but I haven't bought any Megabloks for some time (see previous paragraph). I'm really interested in picking up something in the Skylanders line though because they look pretty cool.

Legos in general are significantly higher quality than Mega Blocks. The material they use to make them is a highly guarded trade secret, it is firm, yet somewhat flexible and very durable. I've heard their defect rate is less than one block per million being defective - which is pretty amazing.

In general, I would highly doubt they would do a Skylanders line of Legos. It would require far too many custom pieces. Lego in general doesn't do a lot of custom pieces for sets, the idea is to make something familiar and cool using the blocks they have, not making an exact model. Mega Blocks will sometimes ship sets that are almost entirely custom pieces (see some of the WoW sets). They do some custom pieces (helmets and held items mainly) with Legos, but Skylanders have a lot of unique models, and not many bi-pedal (human like), so practically every other Skylander would require a special model. For example, the Avengers Lego sets had the Hulk, but he was just the large "Troll" figure they have had for quite some time with a different head and color. The other figures are standard minifigs.

Now one thing Lego does that is interesting is anyone can submit a model set, with plans/etc. With enough votes they will actually publish it. Minecraft set is an example of this. However, again someone would have to come up with the set from existing pieces before they would do it - they don't allow custom pieces for these sets. Oh, and another cool thing you can do is design a set for yourself, along with box and everything - all you have to do is submit the design and piece list (from existing pieces) and pay a premium for it. I don't think you can do a commercial property for this due to copyright issues.

They make much more detailed figures. It is a side effect of making them custom to their material. For example, the Lich King and Sapphiron models I have contained a ton of detail.

However, quality wise, they are lacking. The arms and legs are loose and would be much easier to break for a young kid. They use ball joints that would not stand the test of time. They look great, but I definitely don't think they would do great after playing with them, they are much better as models than toys. I have Lego minifigs that are 30 years old I handed down to my son that are still in perfect working order. In fact, all of my old Legos still hold together tightly as well as all of the new sets my son has.

I have many LEGO minifigures that are either cracked or have loose joints. And I barely even touch them.

The thing I like about Lego over Mega is the fit of the pieces. The Lego seem to fit exactly the same every time. Not too tight and not too lose. The Mega on the other hand seem to snap together hard at first, and weaken over time. And then some of the Mega pieces are lose when first connected. Lego seems to have perfected the production and Mega while good with the design of the products seems to be lacking slightly on their fitment and durability.

So goods and bads Mega: better design IMO, and Lego has the quality of fit.

Really, unless the pieces have RFID chips in them (not a bad idea for at least one "magic" piece per set), I'll probably save my money for the characters that work in-game.

It's called "use", if you ran them over with a car you have have plastic bits, not loose joints and cracks.

It's called a "joke". You say something exaggerated in an attempt to make people laugh.

The point was if he has cracked or loose Lego minifigs, then the question was now rough he played with them. Because the point was I have 30 year old minifigs that still work and stand up straight great that I played with extensively and now my two sons play with extensively - inside, outside, in the tub, etc.. I have a 6 month old Mega Blocks World of Warcraft set I don't play with at all and Sapphiron's head can barely hold up the weight of itself and a Lich King that cannot stay straight unless I leave him in his Frozen Throne. And we have a couple Skylanders sets that are even newer than that that don't fair much better. And the pieces didn't snap together right even out of the box, and that has never been a problem with the dozens of Lego sets we have acquired over time. The Lego Death Star has over four thousand pieces, yet went together without a single issue. The Mega Block Terrafin cannon set was a struggle to even get the cannon to fit together right because many of the slots didn't line up.

The Mega Blocks sets are good models, of course they look better when the figures are molded to look like their source material. The Legos are good sturdy toys that can be played with, dis-assembled, re-assembled and they still hold together straight and tight.

mega bloks figures have much better detail. I haven't really had any problem with pieces fitting together either and thats with me owning every mega bloks halo set so far released. Sure their earlier sets may have been a bit flimsy (i have remade my 1st gen hornet and ghost countless times) but they like to test the waters with ideas first to see if they work. When they came out with their 2nd wave the next year they rereleased the ghost with a new design which was a lot more sturdy, and the next year they released an even better version. the past few years i have had zero problems with my sets breaking and that with people in my room partying and bumping/knocking them over. A few have even been dropped whith little to no pieces breaking off. Also i havent found any difficulty reading their instruction books. Once or twice i'm made mistakes but that was generally due to me overlooking a pieces placement. My FUD set with about 3,000 pieces took me 21hrs straight to build and if i remember right only made one mistake. They both have their own things going for them. I was happy and sad when marvel went to lego. I liked the idea of having a lego marvel video game but i liked to collect the figures from mega bloks. I have no interests in the marvel sets themselves, just the figures and thats actually how i feel about the skylanders mega bloks too.
