So, remember how when we got the Universe Sprite rips and everyone was wondering why Gill Grunt, and Ignitor had 2+ icons? Every Variant was already planned through, so this could be the clue of the next variants. Fright Rider and Gill Grunt could be this waves Variants, but if I recall, GiTD Fright Rider has his own Icon, but they both returned, and the 3rd Gill Grunt will be seen.

Here's the one. I've labeled all the icons for what they were (I'm not sure if it's right for some of them because the regular hadn't been released yet)

Prism Break we know has a variant, HOWEVER..we also know that Eruptor and Stump Smash have variants yet..it doesn't appear they have extra icons (if someone has those ones...let us know PLEASE)

Sonic Boom and Gill Grunt are the most bizarre though. SB MAY use the extra one for the whichever special you register second (ie, if you registered GITD SB first, it'll use the first icon at the top; if you then registered the sparkle one, that'd use this second icon..and vice versa) but I can't confirm that as I don't have a second special to register.

Gill Grunt flat out doesn't have a variant as of yet, so I dunno. I (jokingly) speculated that due to the light effect on it maybe they'll release a secret Lightcore which then I was super surprised (and giggly) to see Irate Gamer use the image in his video. (Irate Gamer, if you're reading this...Hi! hahahaha)

If there are any future variants, we can't really know right now as the site hasn't updated this image list last time I checked (about a week or so ago)

I'd say these might be hints towards SF, but with Universe's cancellation nvm that. Perhaps you're right, a new form of variant. Wait, is GitD Sonic Boom already included?

Why would they make a variant for just 1 holiday that just happened? Plus, where was this "easter" swarm posted? You're topic only says that someone said it, but where is this post?
