If someone offered me an open Boomer, but it still came with the card and code, (used i assume), for 15.00,
should i take it, or wait n try to find one in a store?

Does the box art, card and code even matter? You have one of the most valuable toys to have. That's a pretty low price for a Boomer sold by a person somewhere.

Remember the day (Last Summer) when the stores were full of boomers?
I do. I started collecting them at the end of January (4 months after SSA was released) for my son. By that time I believe they were working on wave 3 coming out so I had alot of figures to choose from. Boomer was one of the last ones we got because there was so many and he did not appeal to my son or me, compared to the others we were looking for. Eventually we got him and there was plenty to choose from. Now he is the most popular SSA out there. Way to go Boomer. By the way, my son loves him now because with the upgrades he (as my son states it) poops out bombs... Activision sure knows how to make an un-popular Skylander popular again. Too bad they cant figure a way to do the same with Drobot. He may be the next boomer. |

Between me and my nephews, there are TWO SSA characters we don't have (if we count S2 characters which work in SSA): Boomer and Wham Shell. BOTH weren't re-released with Giants, haven't seen either in the stores in months, never mind since I found out over Christmas we were that close. Plus Boomer always somewhat appealed to me... Looks like he has the psychosis of Trigger Happy - which is quite entertaining - except he has more explosives, tossing around sticks of DYNAMITE! But I never see him...
So yeah, $15 for an open Boomer is a steal. I checked eBay today for him, the lowest ones - also open - were like $35. And I'm not even sure if that auction had the card or anything.

Haven't seen Boomeer in stores in a long time. I managed to get Boomer and Dark Crypt from my sons friend who doesn't play anymore. Cost me $10 total. Wham Shell you can get in the TRU cardboard figure case. You can catch it on sale for about $24. Worth it, case is ok, but that is the only time I've seen wham shell in a store. |

If Boomer is re-released with Swap, there is a good probability his S1 value drops like a rock. So you could argue that any value over retail is assigned to the convenience of owning him earlier rather than in the fall. But that would be nitpicking in the end. He sells for what he sells for currently. And re-release is not guaranteed.
I actually saw a single pack Voodood at Toys R Us yesterday. If he was only $5 like last week's sale I probably would have bought him and offered him up at cost + shipping here cuz I'm sure some are looking for him...As it was they wanted $10.99 or me to buy another and get 2 for $12 for SSA figures...and none of the others from SSA they had were that great. Double Trouble was the only other decent one. And there were like 12 or so Whirlwinds. LOL. Flashwing, this is your future.

Most people get skylanders to PLAY with, not to leave in a box. I understand that there are TRUE collecters out there that keep them boxed up but that is not the majority of Skylander fans. Since we have a new wave of Skylanders fans and Acti is not making boomer a priority to fulfill the newbies, $5 more for a character that your going to open and play with anyways is a deal, to be able to get that much closer to complete your collection. An extra $5 for a figure that is hard to get for a Skylander fan that plays with them, is a better deal than a TRUE collector getting a figure for over $100 that will never smell the fresh air, oh wait that was Boomer passing gas...

You need to get off the boxed vs un-boxed kick. There are legitimate gamers out there that just want to use him in the game, and this is the only way to do it. It kinda becomes irrelevant. BTW, I've never seen him by the droves anywhere. Maybe I was not paying attention. I was a bit lazy on my SSA character search, which is why I'm paying more than I should now.

Not bad considering that S1 Gill grunt and Trigger Happy come with the SSA Starter kit, they dont come in a single ($5 per character). Without getting into the semantics of wording. Value vs. worth vs. what it should cost vs. what it did cost before etc... Besides Supply and Demand how should one come up with the number they should pay for a figure. If something is harder to find and more people want it then usually it will sell for a higher price. That is the definition of Supply and Demand. If you have a different outlook on how this works please enlighten us because coming from someone who has tons of variants (and was asking earlier about selling them) I would love to hear it. |

#38 Posted: 02:01:04 28/03/2013
Clearly eBay is proof that you are wrong. And the fact that you were trying to figure out how much your figures are worth is laughable. You should already know they're value. Anything above retail is asking too much so you better list your variants at a fair price of 9.99 since that is what they are worth.
By your logic, nothing is ever worth anymore than retail. Also, opened doesn't matter, the box isn't what you're paying for, its the figure.

Semantics again. variant vs store exclusive vs regular figure. and chase variant vs exclusive vs toy fair etc. I can kinda understand what you mean when talking about Toy Fair Chop Chop value vs Granite Crusher as that Chop Chop was not available on the open market. But you specifically listed numerous widely available variants in your thread (Granite Crusher, Molten Hot Dog, Jade Flashwing, GITD Sonic Boom, Legendary Bouncer, Legendary 3 pack, Blue Bash and Red Drill Sergeant). And again we are talking semantics if we take what you said word for word "average going price for certain figures on eBay" vs value vs worth etc. You can get as technical as you want but you are still stating value of items based on your opinion. You say $10 max for Boomer open. I say you spent too much on your variants, exclusives, and boxed figures, and are too uptight about opened vs boxed to see how it all really works. But luckily for me I have no need to sell my figures. Good thing because I opened them all so my son could enjoy them. Have fun with selling your still boxed figures to pay the bills you should have spent the money on in the first place. |

You're putting words in my mouth by finding one comment that, when relating to my topic and original comment, doesn't help your argument at all. Try again. But to be on topic. $15 is not a good deal. The OP asked if it was a good deal so he should expect some people to say no. I gave my reason why so deal with it.

I said you created a thread asking how much your figures were worth... You said you never asked how much they were worth. Yet you clearly posted on your other thread that you were asking what they were worth. I put absolutely zero words in your mouth and it is truly astounding that you can't grasp that.
Do you not understand the meaning of "putting words into someone's mouth"? And its either $15 or $50 on ebay for a figure that's hardly on shelves, if any, and no longer in production. I wonder if its a good deal or not...

The major issue here is that Dut is not speaking to anyone or about anything in specific. No quotes no nothing. Just speaking generally as to avoid actually getting pinned into a discussion. He is also playing the word games. He gave his reason of (my paraphrase) Its out of the box so retail price or less. And Dut you are entitled to that opinion. Only issue I see with that is it is not how supply and demand works. If on average ebay prices are 3.5x-5.5x original retail value for unboxed figures, and unboxed characters sell for about 50% of the unboxed going rate, I would assume we would be looking at 1.75x-2.25x the retail rate for an opened figure that has the extras with it. By that logic $17.50-$22.50 should be the going rate for an open Boomer when they are selling at $35-$55 Boxed. So to the Op $15 is the lower end of expected price. But as Dut says he would expect less. It all depends on how much you want it. and what it is worth to you.
No skylander (or other collectable) really has any worth or value or any other word you want to use Dut. They are only worth what someone is willing to pay for them. So if no one demands them price will drop. If alot of people want them and only a few have them price will go up. (supply and demand) (it makes the world go round). And If i am putting words into your mouth, Dut, by taking exactly what you said, after you getting technical about the word variant, then you should have and can still clarify what you mean. But you are staying very vague in the situation except to call out any small technicality in the discussion. |

Put your money where your mouth is, send him the Boomer. Although, if shipping costs him anything more than $4.99, then you're wrong again. |
