Are figures with an eye not painted worth anything? In tru there was a hotdog with no pupil in 1 eye. Even if it was worth something, the hanger part of the package was ripped by somebody

No, it isn't. People need to stop looking for this type of thing. The variants are the ones everyone knows about. Not crappy paint jobs.

But even to crazy collectors, do you think anyone really wants a fig just because of a misprinted eye?

It's like the stupid lip thing on Chill or the crystal color on Prism Break. People want to feel like they have something rare and special. That's why they go all hoarder mode when they find something new, particularly for exclusives. Does your sister's husband's cousin's roomate really want you to get him a Jade Flashwing or did you just want to feel like the inside guy with the hook up?
The reality is that very, very few Skylanders will be worth anything long term. Maybe rare chase variants in perfect packaging, the toy show exclusives or the employee Christmas Prism Break. Nothing you walk into the store and find without being incredibly lucky on a chase variant will be worth anything more than retail. If you see more than one of them on the shelves, no it won't be. Rarity is what creates value. Manufacturing errors are worth some to a very small subset of collectors - and in that case only certain types of errors. These figures are made in China as cheaply as possible. Overall they do a good job in quality control, but errors make it out far too often for them to ever have significant value. And if you do find one that is of particular interest it can be difficult to find someone that finds that exact thing interesting enough to pay more than retail. |
