I was at walmart a while back and i notice that in 1 of each skylanders spyro's adventure and giants that the pack exclusives were wrong. In the spyro's adventure was just Spyro not a Dark Spyro and in the giants pack was pop fizz not punch pop below are the pics i took of both. i just wanted to know should i have picked them up when i had the chance.

you didn't miss out someone just committed a very stupid crime. As you can see on the box its displayed "dark spyro" and "punch pop fizz" they haven't stopped offering these with the starter packs.

In the Giants pic, am I the only one who sees a in the place that is meant to be in the big display thingy?

Somebody did that with a 3DS starter at my Walmart. It stupidly had Double Trouble, Drobot, and Stump Smash..

I'd put the chances as such for the photos in the OP here:

10% chance of factory mistake
90% of someone buying the 3DS starter pack, carefully opening it, swapping in a regular Spyro or Pop Fizz for the variant one, and resealing the package to return it to the store for a refund.

Most places are dumb enough to accept the return because they don't look on the box. I had a lady one time try to return the Walmart Starter pack with GITD Cynder to my Target. But since I was I to Skylanders I knew it wasn't from us. And the "only at Walmart" sticker was pretty obvious lol.

In the store's display case like that? I've never seen Punch Pop Fizz or any other variants in the display case, stores generally won't sell the contents of the display case, meaning anyone in there is unsellable...

Yeah, I've seen punch pop fizz in that display case. Nothing funny going on there.

Not only that, I would bet dollars to donuts that it was the same person since it was at the same store.

You could take them up (Both Starter Kits) to the Return desk and show them the issue, they should be able to check recent returns and if they find a return that ressembles the 2 items, they can track down the individual (Especially if he/she used a credit card) and do something about it before someone that is new to skylanders picks up a mis-labled Starter Kit. At least then Walmart is aware of it and shoud mark it as broken so no one gets blind sided.

I've seen these things too. I saw awhile back the Wii bundle which should have gnarly blue tree rex having a red tree rex. I,'ve seen blue pop fizz and the reg spyro thing..

This type of mistake was how I got my Punch Pop Fizz without buying the starter pack! Somebody returned a Punch Pop Fizz, but packaged it in a Pop Fizz single. At first I thought it was a factory mistake, but on closer inspection, the box was sealed using tape. Even the card and code were for regular Pop Fizz. Strange, I would've thought that Punch Pop Fizz would be more desirable...
