So what do you guys think? My opinion is Disney is going to make Skylanders a thing of the past sales will drop and prices will drop. Sad to say my collection isn't going to be worth anything In ten years. I bet Disney will hold its value for a long time after its gone. This Is all based on the quality of the Disney game.

LOL. It wont be worth anything by December 2013. Swap Force will probably make these figures irrelevant.

None of the figures of either series will be relevant by 2015. Unless an I <3 The '10s series comes out in 20 years and people start remembering "Oh cool! Skylanders" and then hunt on eBay for the old figurines.

Skylanders really need to jump on that cartoon show business to extend it's life a bit more (and preferably, before it reaches 100 Skylanders).

your are correct there should be made a cartoon series for the little kids and a animated more serious movie with grown up humor for the older fans... but it is activision we have to do with here, so skylanders are most likely a short term cash grab, sadly. the evidence of this is all the useless figurines the throw out for sale. also you are forced to buy a curtain number of figurines to unlock ingame levels and if you want to max your favorite skylander, you will have to buy them all. there are also only 5-7 hour game play with no real long term game play value too boot.

Facts Kappa. i know you hate them, but try to be a little more honest

Giants has 16 Chapters that require about an hour each to fully explore. 4 difficulty levels so that's 64 hours right there. 45 heroic challenges at ~3 minutes each for all your figs adds many hours (say you have all challenges unlocked, that's 40 characters x 45 challenges =90 hours at 3 minutes a challenge, 60 hours at 2 minutes each)

21 arena challenges x 4 difficulty levels x ~5 minutes a challenge=7 hours

PvP. say you want to finish the "win 10 PVP challenges" for your all 40 figures. that's 400 matches, even using the faster Knockout mode (say 2 minutes a match) that's 13 hours 20 minutes

if you only played for 5-7 hours and find no replay value, that is on you, not the game, since the game includes potentially hundreds of hours of gameplay.

okay, but i am talking about the story game play here. also the 4 difficulty are just you with less strength and enemy with more strength. and you played the game once you have seen the story, there is no more to see. the extra hours you get from doing the challenges, it all depend on how many figurines you have. the offline co-op mode not all can do, because they have no one to play with. so the 5-7 hours are a good indication on how much you get out of the game. but of course the game play can be longer but you will have to buy more... that is the fact and reality.

when it comes to disney infinity they have online game play on day one. they sell game set with 8 hours story game play. you want more game play value you can invite your friends play online and create your own world. your not forced to buy things to unlock in this world you bought and there is no need to buy more figurines to upgrade powers.. so if you get tired of one world you can buy another world and you have a new game... you can fly, drive and jump... had it only been the 'duck universe' i would have been all over it smilie

DragonsDream: Get what you're saying, but that's simply a GRIND. If you're OCD completionist, I guess that's fun--my perspective is shared with others that unlocking unique story mode content for completing certain parts of the game and/or by character would REALLY unlock value that would make buying these guys seem more worth it. A unique wow pow and switching paths isn't doing it for me.

Imagine seeing what happens AFTER you complete the game for your hard work completing HC or other in game content, and buying more skylanders, for example. Or, perhaps a side mission that goes into some of the skylanders myth that can also tie into the game's story. Think of it as an adventure pack based on characters tied on save file or accomplishments achieved in game.

I'm honestly shocked that they don't have developers adding post game content to help increase the value of a given game even after purchase, using PSN or Xbox Live. They can make the rules for getting it based on figures you have.

HexinWishes: I heard that Activision was looking into an animation show/feature--in my view, that can only help with keeping interest. Didn't hurt Pokemon, that's for sure. There's a lot in the skylanders mythos that can be fully explored in more detail on a show which would help drive game sales. I'm sure everyone is noticing TFB's affinity to the "star" skylanders: Stealth Elf, Eruptor, Drobot, Flameslinger, etc.

Pretty ironic coming from someone with a Pokemon avatar.

I have been playing Diablo II for going on 12 years now. It's the same 4 acts and same three difficulty levels. The "story" is done when you complete those 4 acts the first time on easy, but the game isn't "done" until you finish on Hell mode. And then you can do it all again with a different character, or the same character with different skills. So that's the mentality I have in approaching Giants. I started at easy level and am working through each difficulty level. The thing is, I don't need new story all the time to have fun. The fun is in trying different paths with different Skylanders. But then, maybe I'm more the kind of adult this game is geared towards as opposed to people used to single character shooters where the goal is to take your one, never changing guy through 50 hours of different combat missions (yawn). Skylanders is what it is. If it's not your style game, it seems silly to complain about it. It's like sitting through the Godfather and complaining that it wasn't funny enough.

^ I respect your playing style, as it seems you are very much a completionist. Please also respect that others are driven more into the exploration of new areas / adventures, and not necessarily through completing every challenge and playing through with every character etc. Each has its own goals and rewards, and I think everyone's perspectives have merit. It's the reason why we have hardcore gamers and casual gamers, introverts and extroverts, etc. smilie

That being said I understand how you can be irritated that folks are leaving value on the table by not completing all of the content as the developers have originally intended, but again it's all in the eye of the beholder.

as i see it replay value is not replying the game all over with the game maker throwing more monsters on you with higher strength and lower you strength so you get killed easier... it is just GRINDING and not worth throwing your time away on. skylanders are fun don't get me wrong and it is best played when you just want to chill. but sadly it is damn short, i got ssa and sa both worth it but i got them both on sale so not getting robbed. with the new one arriving shortly i feel it just are getting to much to quickly, and it dosen't really add anything new(jumping a new thing? that is a joke haha) so i am taking a break now and wait and see what toys for bob skylanders game will bring to the table.

Ok, I really didn't want to wade in a "personal opinion" argument. BUT, your hour time frame for each level is not really accurate, especially on the first 4 levels.

As for the game in general, it is fun, but when it turns in to a grind it loses it's fun and replay value.
