What is the maximum you would pay for a Gnarly Tree Rex?
I wouldn't pay higher than $25.

I literally paid nothing for two, doubtful it could be done now though. I purchased the Wii bundle and sold off the console and game seperately. This was before Christmas when people wanted the game more and a Wii console more. Now with the Wii U bundled with more stuff I'm guessing Wii demand is dropping. You MIGHT want to consider finding the bundle on sale (Target had it for $119.99) and selling it off in pieces to acquire Gnarly.

This weekend, I went in and price adjusted it and got my extra $10. smilie

Now, I have four Wiis. smilie

I made about $40 selling everything but Rex right before Wii U came out. Don't think you can't do the same today. After all, it's nearly impossible not to profit from the thing when Target is selling for $99 total.

Just making sure with the double negative you are saying it's very possible to make a profit from it by selling separately?

Selling the Wii isn't the easiest thing in the world these days. You can sell the Syklanders Giants game/figures/portal pretty easy for $35-40ish. I swapped the extra normal Tree Rex/cards/sticker I had from the 3DS Starter with Gnarly. Most kids don't care about that, and the game comes in a tray just like the Starter Pack. You could probably even put it in your original Starter box and it would fit just fine if it helps it sell.

However, the downfall is to really make it worthwhile you need to sell the Wii. I haven't gotten much interest at all in that, even for a really good price. Unless you know someone that wants it already - you may not be able to sell it easily - so be prepared to factor that into your cost for Gnarly.

He is really a cool looking figure though, wish they hadn't made it such a hassle to get one. And that goes double for Royal Double Trouble - very nice paint job, but you get stuck with a Jet Vac and another Cynder (now I have two extra of those). I wish I hadn't explained the value of getting the Starter over the Portal Owners pack to all of the neighborhood parents - cause now I don't know anyone that needs them to buy them off me cheap.

#21 Posted: 01:30:44 07/03/2013
Heck, even if I could sell the Skylanders game for $35 and Wii for $65 I get my Gnarly for free, minus the hassle of doing all of this. Oops, forgot Evilbay's take. Yeah might be worth it just to buy a Gnarly straight up. I REALLY REALLY hope they don't tie in game variants to systems in the future--assuming I'm still with the franchise.

Looking on listings, might be easier to buy the game with the Gnarly and piecemeal sell of of Jetvac and Cynder (for those who want characters for alternate paths), portal and disk only.

Yes, that's exactly what I'm saying. The Wii is worth $70 give or take, Jet Vac and Cynder are still $5-7 each, any Portal of Power will fetch about $15, the game disc alone is a solid $20-30... It's money in the bank no matter how you slice it, and a Gnarly Rex that Activision and Nintendo just teamed up to pay you to take. How sweet is that?

EDIT: And it's easy to sell a Wii if you start at 99 cents with free shipping. Sounds like a gamble, but it's really not. Leave the auction for 5-7 days and watch it take care of itself.

Ooooooh, more mystery, innuendo, and speculation about a possible character release!
Let the arguing, name-calling, and nervous chatter commence! *eye roll*

I will say that Lesty has been a good source of accurate advance information in the past, so there isn't any reason to doubt him here, per se.
However, I also must say that this latest assertion is more vague and seemingly questionable than Lesty's past "hints" (Jade Flashwing, Scarlet Ninjini).

It seems extremely unlikely that Activision would be distributing single pack Gnarly Tree Rex, especially in September, so late in the Giants series cycle.
It is plausible, though, that certain retailers could, in September offer a very steep discount on the Gnarly Tree Rex bundle, perhaps to clear inventory in anticipation of the Swap Force release, and/or to re-ignite fans' interest just prior to the Swap Force release (and maybe garner some more pre-orders in the process).

I didn't post anything more because
a - I didn't think Gnarly Tree Rex was that big of a deal at this point for many fans/collectors.
b - I can't be completely specific about it.

All I can say is it's true, and it won't be part of a bundle or anything tied to Swap Force. I'm not suggesting anything about exclusivity, etc...
I just wanted to let anyone who is still thinking about getting one, or looks on ebay for the best prices, to hold off if they can until early September. Remember I never act or intend to hold back secret information or "break news". I know what it's like to want certain characters and hate the scalper prices on ebay, so when I do learn of some information, I want to pass it along so the die hard fans can plan accordingly and not overspend on an item that's coming out soon at a much less expensive price point.

Just because a TFB guy said there would be no Tree Rex/Gnarly single pack does not mean things cannot change. They have had a pretty good time at bumping up interest in Skylanders with the recently released variants, so who is to say they didn't decide to drop another previously unplanned one? Chris may have been completely accurate in saying that one wasn't planned, but plans change when the market is right.

My guessing here is this. Gnarly tree rex is tied to the wii bundle here and the ps3 in UK (i think). Now besides us collectors, how many ppl actually went out to buy a wii just to get gnarly tree rex? I know ppl can buy them opened on ebay etc from others that kept the wii and sold off the rest. I feel this could have beena plan all along but kept quiet as they wanted ppl to buy the wii/ps3, but since the game by Sept will be hitting the end mark, why not release gnarly as a single package variant so those that didn't go to ebay or buy a wii/ps3 could get him.
Some could argue about dark spyro not getting a single (well in the usa anyways) or punch pop fizz, but those are tied to game, these are tied to systems which not many ppl are going buy a 2nd of if they don't need it, just to get a figure. With PS4 coming and WiiU being out now for awhile I think it's a good move if wanting to keep interest in Giants straight into Swap force to add one last variant etc.

To those that have him, they will pass. To collectors they will get him and to others that don't know about him at all, they will prob get him.

smilie I have two gnarlys, I sold off the wiis for both. I still prob would get a sealed one and then sell the opened.

My opinion is that with the reliable sources here saying what they are saying about Gnarly---that we can count on it being released. That and it makes sense marketing wise.

It's so weird how when people get a little information they add details which weren't stated... LOL! Like with the Swap Force pre-order that included LC Hex, people jumped to the conclusion that she wouldn't be released before October. Hmm...

Here, I note that Lesty said NOTHING about Gnarly coming out as a single, he just said that people will be able to get him without the bundle. MY read is that this means a Starter Pack (and/or a Portal Owner Pack), WITHOUT the Blue Wii, that you can get instead of the standard Starter Pack, if you're lucky. JUST like I got a 3DS Starter Pack with GITD Cynder instead of regular Cynder, which was sitting there next to the packs with regular Cynder.

Well--NiceGuy--Obviously she doesn't hold the same level of credibility as Lesty--but Cindy Beans is the one who told me that the Gnarly's would be released in single packs. With what Lesty referred to and someone else said something here---cant remember exactly---I felt "my own personal opinion" that we will see a single pack Gnarly. I haven't said that anybody---but good Ol' Cindy Beans (lol) said that the Gnarly would be released in a single pack.
"My opinion is that with the reliable sources here saying what they are saying about Gnarly---that we can count on it being released"

But yes, clearly, we all infer things from what we read and that is not necessarily what the person was saying.

Yes, I read what you said about Cindy Bean's, but as you said, there's a little question to her credibility. But here we have Lesty - proven before to provide accurate information on several occasions, and known to have an in-road to such advance information through working at Target - and Chris At TFB - who is literally inside, working at Toys For Bob and in my experience is our best source for confirming the legitimacy of things.

MY theory allows them both to be correct and would make Cindy's Beans the wrong one. If a single comes out this would prove Lesty and Cindy right, and make Chris out of date or, uh, mistaken.

So to me the former seems more likely. smilie It IS quite possible Cindy's Beans heard a similar tip and jumped to a similar conclusion.

(Of course until Chris chimes in again, this is all speculation and educated guesses)
