So, what are these exactly? [CLOSED]

While hunting for Skylanders in Asia (no small task) I came across masses of dirt-cheap characters, but I am sure they aren't real. They're apparently made out of something called PVC (not sure if normal skylanders are), and they don't work in game. While some look quite fake (even missing the bottom colored strip of green/orange), some look near-identical, and apparently are made from molds or something of the original characters. They also have sidekicks molds (some single colored, not painted), and an occasional real character for 2-10 times as much as in America (no kidding, some characters sell at bloated prices of over $100). Multiple asian sites have these, I'm wondering if anyone knows what they are. Are they made from thrown-away molds made by Activision? Obviously they are mass produced so as to be around a dollar each (fake giants cost about 2-4 dollars).
Don't believe me?

Your thoughts? Note that this is a Chinese site, i can't vouch for content, so be careful (though as long as you don't click the ads, I imagine you'll be fine).

Either early prototypes, factory defects and factory rejects for the expensive ones. Then theres the regular figures. Google chrome with translate will help you if dont know chinese.

Factory rejects. They have no RFID chip and won't work.

Most are rejects, others are prototypes. I recently bought 3 prototype Sidekicks from there.

Can somebody who ordered from them confirm if that price shown is for 1 figure, or all of them?
Do you get to pick what you get?
I can't make head nor tail of the translation.

But they Do have different hair styles???

There are different options for 1, 5, 10, 15 and 20 I believe.
They are randomly picked. So don't expect to get a Clear Stump Smash.

Wonder if these can be resold in america at fair prices (even 5 dollars per character could still double or triple your money)

I was thinking these are perfect for custom character making.

Don't really want to buy a full price working retail figure to mutilate.

PVC is a plastic used in plumbing and military activities, and I've used it in the form of pipes. It's not really what Skylanders figures are made of, I don't think.

Well, some sources say thats what these things are made of. Hadn't thought of using them for customs, but that might work.

They're made of the same plastic as real Skylanders, same factory and everything.

DON'T count on them having a functional RFID chip. There also may be paint mistakes or plastic warping, ex. some reason they were took off the line.
Still, excellent cheap* fodder for customs.

*Sometimes even after agent fees and shipping

*Facepalm* No, no no the Ninjini you have has no different paint apps or a different base than the normal one that is for sale now, the ones shown above however have little to none paint apps and none of the bases. This means they are either bootlegs or prototypes, not "factory throwaways".

The Ninjini is a prototype, Chris at Toys for Bob told me that in a PM.

Dirt cheap. It'd be nice if they worked, but then they wouldn't be less than 2 dollars each...

His Ninjini did actually have a different paint style on some parts of the figure.

I was combing through this site and I added a few things to cart that looked a bit unique and at the cost I don't really care if they don't look that great. I just get stuck when trying to checkout. I cant figure out what the two boxes in the middle of the screen are saying. Any insights from those of you that have ordered would be appreciated. thanks!

Matteomax, you didn't actually buy prototypes (I believe-continue read to find out the result of my experiment I conducted to see if they were true prototypes). I wanted to find out if the unpainted/prototype figures were truly prototypes so I removed the paint from my spare Trigger Snappy and Wrecking Ball. They then became exactly what people are buying on Taobao. So I believe you only bought factory throw aways that never had a chance to be painted. OR, Before the factory painted them, they were smuggled out of the factory. Either way, they never had a chance to get a RFID chip put into them. (Yet, I still want them...even though I technically have them. All I now need to do is take out the RFID chip)

Yep. These are real ones: http://s.taobao.com/search?q=S...aobaoz_20130219
They are extremely expensive. If you're in Asia, use Japanese Amazon to buy real characters instead. Hot Head is in stock and only $5 Us more.
I buy figures mostly for in-game purposes, so the factory rejects/prototypes/smuggled things don't appeal to me, aside maybe for customs-making.
