I dont see a future's market for Skylanders in that I can leave them for my kids to pay their college tuition.

I just got a GITD Fright Rider on the way and it will be out of box. Of course I havent and probably would not spend the money some of these items cost on eBay.

Unless you are looking to sell them forward, I dont see the fun.

Yet, its your money, do whatever makes you happy.

I open all the variants I collect so the kids can play with them. They are the only reason I collect them anyway. They love it when I bring home a new special variant for them. And yes, we have a metallic chop-chop too. Also got a decent deal on an employee exclusive Prism Break.

I guess I could post some pics of them, didn't think about others wanting to see them opened.

I don't think I could open a variant like chop chop.

I'd like to see a pic of a variant abused and mutilated...arms off...ketchup or mustard on the white snow variant...hehe

Although I won't promote such actions I'm sure in time someone is going to meet an early demise and I'll be sure to share images of the massacre when it happens.

I just like the different colors. This, the clears, and the flocked ones appeal to me the most.

They are made to be played with. It breaks my heart to open them, but then again it breaks my heart not to.

I don't have anything 'rare' or variant, but every figure is special to us.

Trying to build up the guts to make my own custom figure. Looking at making a mold and casting my own from scratch.

Tig, I think you posted a pic of having multiples of every variant, so I can see why you open at least 1. The real question is, do you have any sealed variants? Or are ALL of your figures opened, since that's the way they were meant to be?

Does he feel any different than the normal Choppy?

Stranger things have happened. Imagine all the folks in 1963 who picked up Amazing Spider-man #1, read it and tossed it away. Today in NM+ condition it's worth over $100,000. I won't go there with Action Comics #1 or Detective Comics #27 but suffice to say you'd be a millionaire.

I grew up in the video game era and would've NEVER THOUGHT to buy games and leave them packaged for resale in the future. There's actually quite a vibrant market for it--and I wouldn't doubt it if in 20 years or so there's a demand for these toys in boxed format.

Yes, it's speculative...but folks who get older will be in the market for stuff they grew up with as they come into more money.

But in the end, I always say the same thing: collect and enjoy what you love, and the rest will take care of itself.

Ah, man, let me tell you about my gaming days.

I used to walk by Suikoden II every day at Best Buy. I kept telling myself, "it will be there. It's always there." One day I go and it's gone. I then tell myself, "it will be on Ebay for cheap. I can wait." Years later, it's 100+ on Ebay. I have it now, but it costed me.

I bet a lot of people thought Suikoden II wouldn't be worth much. Same goes for Mega Man 8 (Saturn), Ogre Battle (SNES), Earhtbound (SNES), Ducktales 2 (NES), top loader NES, and other games.

How many people passed up Flintstones: Surprise at Dinosaur Peak on the NES because it was probably crap, only to find out it may actually be a bit fun, so they hunt down a cartridge only to find out it goes for around 300 bucks?

And like someone else said. How many kids threw away their Batman #1 and Spider-Man #1?

No one knows what will and won't be worth money, but those who buy variants because they hope to cash in later on, could or could not score. I buy them because I want them until the day I die. After that, I don't care what happens to them, because I am dead. I never buy them with future gain in mind, as when the industry becomes digital only, no one could pay me 1 million+ for my game and Skylander collection. Somethings are just worth more than money.

the multiples (which are now no more) were all to give away or trade. all variants in our family collection are open.

plays the same in game (as expected). not much to say about the physical character other than he is smooth and shiny.

This is by far one of the cooler looking variants, I'm hoping we someday get to see more variants in this color.
