I have a pre-order in and was waiting on the Wii-U version for Christmas, but my kid's friend beat the Wii version in like a week and is done with it (a pair of 6-year-olds). His mom felt like the game was pretty overpriced for 16 levels and offered to just let us borrow his. I know my kid had a similar reaction to the first game where he ignored it and went back to other games once he beat the game. He didn't care about the mini-games, higher difficulties, etc. and only briefly showed interest when I recommended building up his characters for Giants. Totally focused on beating the game. Should I cancel the Wii-U preorder and just let him beat the Wii version?

Honestly, go ahead and get Giants if your kid has a tablet, a 3DS, or likes Spyro's Universe. There are a lot more things to do with the figures than simply play the console version, such as several other apps and full games. Overall, the amount of versions of Skylanders out there helps to justify the figure price a little better this time. At least now there's more than just a couple of things to do with them.

Skylanders is waaaaay too short. Too much time is spent making the figures. Still, its fun.

The main story line is way too short, but there is a lot of extra stuff; Collecting all figures, completing all quests, completing all heroic challenges, collecting all stuff, fully upgrading all skylanders. All those things make the game longer.

Thanks for the feedback, I'm going to cancel the Wii-U. He really didn't care about the heroic challenges or collecting all the stuff. He wants ALL THE FIGURES, but that's pretty much true of anything like this.

I don't know if they shortened the game since the levels all seem longer. So while there are 6 or so less levels, they make up for it in length. You also have a skystone game this time, arena challenges, 13 more heroic challenges, more PvP options including more arenas, you still get all the old adventure pack levels (which that's the only way to get sunburn and ghost roaster anyway), more hats to find, can use money for things other then just upgrades, have 9 figure dependent challenges, have 4 difficulty settings instead of one, have unlimited turret challenges......there is a lot more to do in this game then the last one, and as tashiji said, there are several other games available for you to utilize your figures with to where it helps you stomach the cost much better.

Glad heroic challenges are gone. Imagine doing 165 per skylander. That's 27225 challenges. No thank you. |

Although I still think SG is worth it, I must admit that purely in terms of level length, I am not wowed. Are they longer? Yes. Are they long enough to compensate for only 16 levels? Meh...
Even taking into account our familiarity with the sequel meaning less ramp up time, my kids and I finished the SG stoyryline faster (with figs starting at level 1) than S:SA. For the record, "finishing the storyline" for us also meant exploring every gate/place in each level. We actually could not originally explore every nook and cranny in S:SA as we lacked a couple of elements but explored every spot we found in SG - hence SG should have actually taken longer.

For the next game they need to explore more path A and path B level making. They did this with one level that you have to play at least 4 times to get everything, but in the previews I read, there was said to be much more of this. It just makes the game feel more expansive. They'll REALLY want to give you a reason to play the game 4 months after it comes out to keep the parents feeling like their kids will actually use the figures.

Yes, the game is too short. If you can get away with borrowing it just to play through the story, go for it. Fortunately, for me, I like the gameplay itself enough to enjoy just derping around, maxing characters, trying alternate upgrade paths, collecting everything, and then doing it again in Nightmare mode.

The game honestly isnt as short as some people think. The thing that extended the last game wasn't the levels, it was the BS you had to do running around the island as opposed to a much smaller boat. A lesson to developers: Convenience can bite you in the bum with the unrealistic impression that your game doesn't have as much content.

This game is not as short as people think. Yes you can "complete" the story line in a short amount of time. I think however, TFB and Activision besides trying to make oodles and oodles of money, look at getting the heroic challenges for everyone done, accolades, getting all the hats, winged sapphires, the luck o tron wheels, the bronze, silver, and gold hats for all the characters as having the game complete.
One thing we have to also look at is, who is the game really, aimed at? 28 year old, balding male men? No. It is your 8 year old kid. They have to balance it out. If you make a game that is invloved like Halo, CoD, or whatever game. You are going to lose a majority of the people who are going to buy it. The kids. You have to look at it not only from your point of view, but also at the little kids point of view. |

My point being was, that if you look at everything, just not chapters the game is actually very long. You have a lot of new characters to level up, heroic challanges to do, arena fights, things to find in game. This stuff does make the game longer.

I come from the school that you have to look at things from different points of view before deciding. If you are an 8 year old kid that this game is geared towards beating the game on easy mode for them will be a challenge. Also, it will be very time consuming considering school and what not. That is why they chose not to make the game 30 levels. For older kids and adults, they have the arena challenges that give you charms and what not. Heroic Challenges to help you level up your character to it's highest potential. Which if they did not put these in the game it would make it short I agree, and people would have forgetten about S:SA after the first wave.
Again, take a look at who the game is actually targeted too, not most people on this forum. |

I think the game needs shorter but more levels. Maybe 45 lvs that take 10 min to beat instead of 16 lvs that take 20 min to beat.

Which would cost TfB A LOT more money and time. It takes much more to design different levels then it does expanding something. 45 lvls isn't feasible.

Finishing SA was much shorter IMO. MUCH shorter. In all terms. Less to do with the figures, less to find in the levels, less to explore. Less characters and levels for them even.
People tend to just beat games then put them down these days, and it baffles me as to why. Giants has less levels, but it has more in them, it has more in every character, all of those... In fact, I'd guess the only reason people are saying this game is shorter is because they're not willing to buy more figures(most will just buy new characters and there are only a few of them, so they're going to have less toys to upgrade). But Y U NO PLAY QUESTS?!?! |

Yes the game is really short. Yes giants levels are longer than spyro's adventure but that's a problem. I can't use the wii very long as its in my moms room so I have to turn it off whenever she says too. But the levels are sooo long I have to turn it off the in the middle of the level. Skylanders giants story is short but lots of stuff to do after. I play for about 3 hours a week and I've 2 starred every level and now I am replaying every level to buy all the hats from auric. I'm planning in buying spyro's adventure after Christmas. So that's more story I get to play.

I've had Giants since the release date (Oct. 21st here in Canada).
I've finished the story on hard mode (playing 2 player with my kids). I've finished the story on hard mode a second time playing with my wife (now that I've got her hooked) I've finished the game on nightmare mode with my wife. I've also been helping my kids play the story on and off with their profiles (saved games). All of this done mostly with the new characters released but occasionally with the characters released with Spyro's Adventures. None of my characters have completed every heroic challenge available. None of my characters have completed every quest they have. None of my characters have reached level 15. If you define the game as finished by completing the story line then yes, you might find the game short. The story can be completed in about 12 hours. If you define finished by completing everything the game has to offer and not just the story line then no, this game is by no means short. My son likes the 2-player PvP stuff and my wife likes doing the heroic challenges and arenas to get each character's quests and statistics up. Whether you think it's short or not depends on what you define as what the game is about and what you're interested in. |

Although I still think SG is worth it, I must admit that purely in terms of level length, I am not wowed. Are they longer? Yes. Are they long enough to compensate for only 16 levels? Meh... I agree that I can have lots more fun leveling up and doing challenges, etc. However, the promise was for an equivalent length of story mode I don't think they delivered in that aspect.

The storyline came seem a little short. (though the 3DS version is way shorter.) However, there's much more to it than just the storyline. Plus if he doesn't like the extra hero missions and what not there's still mulitplayer battling which can be really fun. Especially if you make it more interesting than just playing it. Like turn it into a tournament or perhaps come up with a boardgame (like sorry) and when they interact or land on the same plave they battle or something.

I think the game has is unbalanced short and lenght.
On the one hand it is short, to beating the 16 levels you donĀ“t need much time. On the other hand, you can level up your skylander to level 15, do the quest, do the heroic challenges. On SAA i played with my character (i got 15) all heroic challenges and leveled them up. it was a little short,(to do that witch each skylander) but okay. ( Always used a level in the middle and the last level) The Problem is, to have everything with every skylander you have to play too long, without getting new content. The only thing that changes is the skylander, and how hard it is to beat the enemy. There are no new secrets to explore, or anything. I Doubt i will level every of the 48 Skylanders I get to Level 15.

I beat it in 3 days, playing 3 hours each day (wasnt really focusing on the game). A $75 game that has 16 levels is terrible.
a $20 game (castle crashers) has 36 levels, and HIGH replayability. there are around 30 characters that dont cost you any money (there are two dlc packs for $2 each, with 2-4 characters). so it's kind of a shame as to why a game that costs 4 times more has half gameplay. the levels are around the same time and there is an "insane mode"
