Any chance that, in their rush to get the story out, some of the information was wrong or was changed?

It's interesting as well, unless I'm missing something, I don't think any of the official releases from Toys R Us/Activision regarding this event actually say the figure will be Ninjini. Just an unreleased character.

That's true. All of the websites are saying they have been told it's Ninjini, but the press releases just state "an unreleased Skylanders Giants figure." That could be anything.

Wait a minute, you said the TRU press release backs you up, and then when called on it, you come up with a random site and say that it must be right because it "looks formal"? That's is the weakest reply I've seen in a long time, even for the internet. smilie But like you said "That's generally what happens when people want to be right."

A random website that was in the very first post of this thread. It isn't like he just Googled it. He clicked on page 1 and scrolled up. This website told everyone about this event, and had so many details that proved accurate that the OP is either Nostradamus or the press release is the real deal. It isn't just that it looks official, it looks official AND it was posted a day before anyone else reported it.

^ Yeah, this. The whole topic we're posting in is built off of the first press release, which pretty clearly did use the word 'months,' so let's not pretend anyone is making that up here. It's your choice if you want to believe it or not, but it is in no way preposterous, regardless of what side you choose to be on.

OK Whatever. Who else is going to the event. Let's kii over the fact we all tried to get a Ninjini (and will most likely fail) and take a group picture for darkSpyro with our favourite Skylanders? K?

I don't think anyone is saying that GM "made up" the "months" part of it. But checking the official Toys R Us Page, it says nothing about "months" - which leads me to believe that the OP (who is from the site linked to in the OP) may have gotten inaccurate information, perhaps from an early press release. We don't know. We do know that nothing from TRU is saying "months" at this time.

What's interesting is that none of the official stuff says what the figure is. So, I did some snooping. First, called the event hotline linked on the TRU site. Got an automated recording that, virtually, read what was already on the site. Meh. Called the store (646-366-8800). After getting bounced around, I spoke with a wonderfully polite gentleman who was able to confirm the time of the event, some other (already known) info about the event and... mentioned that they were giving away 300(!) figures. Oddly, when I asked him what figure it was... he said he didn't know. Said that even his managers didn't know, just that it was a new one that wasn't for sale yet - beyond that, he said, "they" are keeping that information pretty tight right now.

Now, with that said, it's probably Ninjini. But still, it's interesting that it's hush-hush.

Well, Bob and SSJ you guys keep up the good fight. Seems like nothing is good enough for you two, despite the fact people had no trouble believing it, when the TC first posted that link. This certainly isn't a tag team wrestling match. So, in the best interests of this site, I will squash debating - but still speak my opinions - with those who want to keep it going.

I knew, absolutely knew, though, that you two would discredit the link the TC posted, in order to appear right in your remarks. So, I refuse to debate with brick walls, as it gets nerdy and downright silly after a while. There are sometimes, people are so deadset on being right, they used biased methods to prove their side right.

It's sad when I can predict what others say before they say it. Maybe that's because I use common sense when observing a lot of the finer details of everything.

I heard you also do this a lot over on CAG, Bob. You always play corporate defender in the face of any opposition. I can't - nor will I - compete with that kind of complex. Again, it's just a bit too silly for my tastes.

I just found it ironic that I was able to read a couple here like an open book, right down to their eventual retorts. Keep fighting the good fight, for corporations everywhere. I'd ask for a check, though. smilie

Wow, I think you need to go back and reread what was said, especially by you. You responded to UncleBob's and my own well-though out points with personal attacks. You may think that "squashes debating", but the only person that comes out of that looking bad is you. You're reminding me of how some of the elementary school kids reacted a few months back when I pointed out they were wrong about release dates. Honestly GM, you are one of the angriest people on this site. You seem to love being angry. You get angry at ebayers (despite you actually cleaning out an entire Gamestop of Thumpbacks and Eye Brawls for yourself), you get angry at Activsion, you get angry at stores, and you get angry at Bob, me, or other people when we point out you made a mistake, or even just that you have nothing to actually be angry about. Get some counseling or something, you obviously need it.

I... don't believe that for one second. Not saying you made it up, I'm just saying I find it hard to believe a company like Activision would allow THAT many figures to be given away for FREE. I feel like the person you talked to was mistaken.

they gave away how many at the toy fairs last year? how many were given away at E3?

Free press is excellent press, espically with the infinity thing starting up in 4 months.

To be fair, they've given out more than 300 at other events (Toy Fairs, E3s, etc.) - but that does seem like a lot - which is part of the reason I gave the phone number, so anyone can call and verify what I was told or ask their own questions. smilie

300 makes me optimistic that they've already mass-produced the thing and can ship it whenever they want. That's got to be good enough for me if there are only 300, though, because eBay prices will be soaring. The prototype up right now is already commanding nearly $300, and it won't even work. I'd rather spend that cash on just about anything but one solitary figure.

I think they would. Let's just say it costs Activision $10 per figure (I don't actually know their costs, but it's obviously less than $15, so for the sake of argument) that would be a $3,000 investment, and look at all the publicity they are getting for that $3k (and believe me, $3k is nothing when it comes to advertising).

The being said, yes, it's certainly possible this person was wrong. We've seen TRU employees be wrong before, and I am sure we'll see it again. UncleBob can only go by what he was told.

I wouldn't mind seeing Legendary Lightcore Chill, that would cause a great deal less stir, given Chill is available now. I hope the "MONTHS" thing was a typo, we know LLC Chill is part of the Wave 3 press package they sent out last month. Given that it is TRU, a Legendary figure would also be understandable.

But, Kotaku also reported Ninjini as well, so it is possible - although the article is un-sourced (and they would link the blog is that was their source and not a press notice), so they probably got the same release as the OP. Tomorrow at this time, we will know the figure.

Why do we all keep complaining but then keep supporting this game. It's like dealing with drug addicts. The only way Activision or TFB will listen to anything we say is to stop buying their products. Then they will be begging to know what they can do better. However holding these events and releasing figures in month long waves keeps making them money and that is all they care about. How much money can we take in before people get tired of this stuff. Nintendo wii sales are down so even companies like Nintendo call begging activision for an exclusive toy so they can increases their sales. Everywhere you look with this skylander plastic toys is money for people that could care less about scalpers or you or me and just worry about the green rolling in.

I'd rather just pay a scalper for the figure and call it a day on the collection. I know this all comes down to personal taste, but I get no joy from going store to store for these things, and to prolong having to do that for potentially several unnecessary months, for a figure that is apparently printed and ready to go, is definitely worth at least commenting on. I'm not freaking out about not being able to get one tomorrow, just saying I'd rather pay $50-80 to get it soon than have to bother store hopping in a few months. Time is valuable. There are other things to do than check online for new Skylanders secretly filtering into stores and then selling out immediately, and due to how Activision releases these things, that's every wave. I've just about had enough of this for the Giants rotation, and paying extra to get a scalped Ninjini is seeming more and more appealing.

I don't believe that will be the starting price, and if there are only 300 of the figure, I'm already going to rule out buying one. But if they randomly shock the world and REALLY saturate New York City with Ninjinis, it could be feasible. I'd only say that's a possibility because of how much TRU likes to overload though, and even then, it's a remote one.

Guys, there are one of two things that this press event confirms.

1. Activision were lying to us when they said the figures would be released faster.

2. Activision were lying to us when they said Ninjini won't be out for months so that they can stir some rage just for trellingzwern.

Either way, Activision are lying to us... So... The only logical, peaceful solution is to

EXACTLY.

The best fence is the best fence. By which I mean, the best way to show that you don't like something, is to NOT SUPPORT IT. When you buy a Skylander YOU FUND ACTIVISION. And then they continue to make funds, WHICH MEANS THAT THEY WON'T STOP MAKING DESCISIONS LIKE THIS. Quite frankly, the TRU employee at 78's store was right- not that everyone are ignorant female dogs, but because THEY CAN DO THIS STUFF AND GET AWAY WITH IT BECAUSE PEOPLE KEEP BUYING THE PRODUCT, THUS KEEPING IT BUOYANT. As long as Activision keep making money, the consumer is nothing but a spare wallet to them.

People keep on saying this about scalpers- well, guess what? MAYBE IF YOU ALL STOPPED BUYING FROM ACTIVISION THEY'D NOTICE SOMETHING. If you disagree with what they do as much as you keep saying then stop buying from them, because that's showing interest.

I'm bitter, but not that bitter: I aimed to have one of each named character after thinking long and hard and that's where I'll finish it. However I'm sure as hell going to think long and hard before I embrace the next chapter in this.

I think it's enough to call foul on reposes and insane chase variants and be happy with that.

I agree with GM76, after the 1st game I wasnt going to get into giants. I got everything for the 1st game all legendaries, valcanic vault, b bash, r drill, and even snaged one glow zap at future shop. I didnt have to order anything from online or ebay and the most I had to hunt for anything was like a week, but the hunt was still a pain. So I said nope not doing it again.

Well I was at the stores the day giants came out and it wasnt that busy, a month went by and stock was good. Nov. 9th the stores especially tru had really good stock, so I thought this is way better then last time.

I picked up the l 3 pack, l bouncer, l stealth elf, flashwing, pop fizz, chill, sprocket, fright rider, shroom boom battle pack, all the giants (at that time) except bouncer even though they had him, lc drobot, lc jetvac, lc prism break, and a few reposes, as well as the 3ds version, and the portal master pack. The next day I sent my wife back to get one of the new storage cases and she bought 1 of the 2 hot heads they had. Over the next couple months I got the rest of the reposes, gitd sonic b, and had my folk snag a g crusher state side. Then wave 3 came out and it took awhile to find them, almost 3 weeks just for prism breakv2. We even bought a blue wii for gnarly. It was actually easier to get thumpy and eye then it was prismv2 and lc shroom boom, because it was back to the same old crap as it was with spyros adventure. We still havnt seen the scorpion pack in canada.

Anyway after this I have decide im done with it I wont be buying the 3rd game and all I plan on grabbing is the 8 missing reposes if they make them. Just to complete the collection I have now.
I am gonna give the disney thing a try and hope it goes better, the toy box mode seems very LBP and me and my kids love building lvls and playing other ppls lvls in it.

I seriously doubt that Activision just gave those sidekicks to Frito Lay. They sold them to Frito Lay so that Frito Lay could use the popularity of Skylanders to sell bags of chips.

And since today's event is happening at a TRU store, I wouldn't be at all surprised if TRU is giving Activision something for this promotion. All Activision had to say was, "well we could go to GameStop, Wal-Mart, Target, or Toys R Us ... who wants to pay our price?"

Yeah, I'm sure FL paid for them, but my point was that those 7,000+ figures are not a big cost to FL when it comes to a nationwide promotion. Super Bowl commercials cost around $4 million for 30 seconds this year (and FL had several Doritos commercials), figure cost + the admin costs + the packaging artwork is small potatoes for a big corporation's advertising budget (maybe $50-75k by rough estimates for the promotion).

Everyone needs to understand that there is a cost to do business. And ive noticed alot of people commenting on money that these companies make and spend and so on. They could give away 100,000 figures for free and it would not hurt them. The dollar amounts that are involved here are not $1000 or $5000. Its MILLIONS and MILLIONS. Its a drop in the bucket as well as a concievable tax write off for the company as an advertising cost.

"You don't even know what a tax write-off is!"

"No, but THEY do, and they're the ones writing it off!"
