What path would be better for S1 Lightning Rod? I know the post says so, but I would like more peoples opinions before I choose.

I say Typhoon titan for S1 Lightning rod. Why? Because he REALLY REALLY needs the close quarter power, and his grand lightning hardly suffers in the trade off. The clouds do a rapid 10 damage, however combined with the zapper field you get insane damage out of it, and on Lightning lord half the soul gem is wasted.

Flashwing: i prefer finesse characters, and super spinner really doesnt fulfill that role. Both are decent paths.

Warnado: he gets a variety of attacks to use in his tornado, and the spin makes him a very fast character.

Shroomboom: he has no attack stategy and all je can do is cower away under ground. The paramushrooms are useless on barrier boost, and he shoots too slow.

Thumpback: his power swing combo is awesome, he does phenomenal damage, and he is a very strong character on anchors a yay.

Bouncer: if you leave him alone for even a second, he will take 80+ dmg from you, regardless of your position on the battlefield. The eye beams still tick very slowly and aren't high dmging, and the 1 upgrade for tue bullet dmg is too little to make up for the other path.

Eye brawl: i think that eye for an eye gives him a more versatile attack route and is better for a variety of characters.

^

smilie No it doesn't tick slowly, the I-Beam combined with the Laser mines tick damage fast and are powerful. The damage for the guns don't increase a lot, but can fire quite fast now. The Rocket path gives unlimited rockets and bigger explosions, but they still descend too slowly to catch your opponent (except Gargantuan Giants) and it leaves you vulnerable in close range, you need an improved I-Beam for close range.

smilie The paramushrooms are useless on both paths, and the Ring can now explode on Barrier Boost for Close Range.

Shroomboom is easy. Barrier Boost for story mode, Paramushrooms for PVP.

It really does suck that the new guys can't switch paths. It feels like each one was built to have a path with both modes in mind.

Paramushroom Promotion for Story and Barrier Boost for PvP (but only by a slight edge).

Barrier Boost is a great defensive path, but it's lacking in damage output. I know the typical argument against paramushrooms is that they're too slow, and they are, but they're far from useless on the Paramushroom Path.

They're VERY useless on both paths unless your opponent is an idiot or has to use an attack that revolves around camping, I'm always on the run! Unless I Have to, I will never stop running in PvP! Never Ever! The only great part is the Lock N Load.

Besides, he already has offense and damage output. Defense is what he really needs because he has low HP, low speed, and low armor.

See, I don't camp or run away with him, and instead play really aggressively since the paramushrooms are harder to avoid when used up close. Lock n load is definitely the star of the show though, since you can seamlessly fire off shots in between paramushroom volleys and overwhelm anyone with the sheer amount of stuff on screen. It doesn't matter how smart or fast they are, they will get hit with something and damage can add up surprisingly quick.

It really is too bad that lock n load isn't a basic upgrade, if it were, barrier boost would unequivocally be the better path and be borderline overpowered. As it is, I think both paths even out enough to come down to a personal preference.

Shroomboom because the boost is needed if you want any protection

Eye brawl: same thing as thumpback
Flashwing i like being able to protect my self with the spin.

On second thought, I think it depends on what kind of PvP match your doing. When most people say which path is PvP-preferred, they usually only revolve it around Arena Rumble while completely ignoring the other modes; some may be inferior for Arena Rumble but overall better or balanced in different modes. It just occurred to me now.

Paramushroom Promotion is better for Ring Out because while Underground on Barrier Boost, you can still get knocked away and you can't attack your opponent, it's not worth it at all. The Rapid-Fire Mushrooms are devastating!

Barrier Boost is better for Arena Rumble because the Paratroopers are still so slow and he lacks defense (he has low health and armor), the mushroom ring is completely useless without Barrier Boost.

Paramushroom Promotion is better for Sky Goals because you don't get a speed boost underground and you STILL can't attack your opponent (besides popping the mushroom ring). This is also the only mode where I found heavy use for the Paratroopers, seeing as you can't use attacks while you have the football and are too slow to dodge them.

Barrier Boost is better for Sky Gem Master cuz popping the ring helps for stealing your adversary's gems while protecting your own, as long as they can't beat you to the next one before getting all 5 gems.

well, arena rumble is what most people base em off of because the other modes are useless and very boring. barrier boost gives shroomboom no good attack, and at least he does damage on paramushroom.

After reading all the responses, I might have to reset Shroomy and try that Barrier Boost path. Of course, he holds his own in PVP with the Paramushroom path.

Question for everyone: with regards to Terrafin Series 2, who is effective against him in PVP? He's almost invulnerable with his Wow Pow since he stays underground and can't be attacked until he comes up and does his slam. It's frustrating. Any suggestions?

#1282 Posted: 05:02:33 01/02/2013
Never played smilie but I do not believe he'd beat Terrafin on Typhoon Titan. His clouds look very pathetic; short range and you actually have to chase after your opponent, which is a hassle because of his low speed. Even if the clouds do hit, they only do 10 damage.

You probably don't know that the clouds combimed with the zapper field do INSANE damage, and the are of effect extends. If the zapper field didn't make the clouds spin faster then yes, the path would be rather poor, but with the zapper field upgrades and the clouds you will deal obsene damage to anyone who is foolish enough to approach you. What else? His grand lightning, and bolt throw attacks still have their purposes.
LightSpyro13 Blue Sparx Gems: 861
#1284 Posted: 05:12:23 01/02/2013
You'll have your opponent first before you can do that, which won't be easy because of his below-average speed. He looks kinda fun to play (though an ugly one), but kinda pathetic.

Just like Jet-Vac.

He is a really good character in my opinion. I do not know what the people who say he's bad are smoking. The thing about Typhoon titan is to fight at range, and then try to close in. You should be able to get close with bounce pads and teleporters....you know, the factors that prevent keep away characters from being too overpowered.
DocCroc Yellow Sparx Gems: 1668
#1286 Posted: 08:46:07 01/02/2013
Yup, Lightning Rod isn't meant to chase people around. His skills lie in being able to effectively corner people with his other attacks and gradually close in. His wow pow helps with this strategy immensely, since it gives him a decent mid-range attack outside of his zapper field range.

That being said, he doesn't do very well against Sandhog Terrafin in my experience, even with his elemental advantage. He can pick up a win here and there and he fares better than the rest of his element, but that isn't saying much. Still, he's a good character, anyone who can use his abilities tactically will definitely get the most out of him in PVP.

How is Pyro Pooch for Hot Dog in story mode? I like Burning Bow Wow for PVP, but I'm less impressed with it in story and I'm thinking of resetting just to give Pyro Pooch a spin.

#1288 Posted: 17:05:46 01/02/2013
Apologies, to say "one of" the best, Swarm is kind of a given. Didn't think it was worth bringing up a top tier giant into play. Whirlwind is great, but against Terrafin? Not so much.
Mrmorrises Platinum Sparx Gems: 7038
#1289 Posted: 19:24:44 01/02/2013
I have had no problem destroying Terrafin as Tempest dragon Whirlwind. I just cloak myself in clouds and he won't bother getting near me. I can easily dodge his mini sharks and damaging dorsal fin, and end up ripping him apart with the elemental bonus. Any air character with decent elemental power can beat him easily. If you want someome who is not elementally strong against him that takes him down, go for Double Trouble, or Hot head.

That was some pretty badass music. Some advice to Whirlwind players, take flight A LOT, she becomes dangerous and hard to catch with her powerful clouds in the way. Since I have heard you say that you think your opponent is somewhat less skilled than you, I would like to see a video with YOU as Whirlwind, and HIM/HER as Terrafin.

I wouldn't say you destroyed Whirlwind though. She did get you down to roughly 1/5 health. Clearly you were the better player and came out on top despite the elemental weakness. If the roles were switched, you'd probably wipe the floor with Terrafin using Whirlwind like you did against Prism Break. Assuming you were playing as Whirlwind in that match.
