If you are in New York or will be on Tuesday the 5th, you'll want to head over to TRU at 4pm (or earlier.)

I just got this heads up :

Quote:
Months before the Skylanders Giants character, Ninjini, hits retail shelves, kids and their families are invited to The World’s Greatest Toy Store™ to be among the first in the world to get their hands on the must-have Skylanders Giants character, while supplies last. To celebrate the annual International Toy Fair taking place in New York City this month, Activision Publishing Inc. and Toys“R”Us are partnering to host a special event at Toys“R”Us Times Square, the company’s international flagship store. The first fans to line up along Broadway for the event will have an opportunity to receive a complimentary Ninjini figure before it is officially available for purchase in North America.

LOL! MONTHS BEFORE?! Yikes. I guess that means we won't be seeing Ninjini for sale until March or April?

It goes back to what I keep saying about TFB dragging out such a short game for now potentially 6 months. It's just absolutely dumb, in my opinion. I love me some Skylanders, but to drag out waves this long is a huge turn off.

I figured they were going to end it all around late February to early March, which isn't as bad as it was with the first game.

Epic facepalm.

Yay! I'm near new york! Maybe my mom or dad can pick one up for me while I'm at school.

It's true. 110%.

I got the heads up from the PR team this evening.

You'll see the information filtering out on different sites soon as well (if they haven't already).

I just happened to see the email when it came across and put it up as I knew you guys would be interested.

I suspect that the event will be very geared towards children :

Quote:
Also at the event, kids will have the unique opportunity to meet their favorite Skylanders characters, experience the year’s most popular game at in-store game kiosks and receive other funSkylanders Giants giveaways.

But, I suspect you would not be turned away.

With that said... I fully expect a lot of ... opportunists trying to get in on Ninjini for ebay selling.

Should be a pretty packed event.

I'm looking forward to it! If you see me, say hi!

Well, I have a niece, but she's too young so I can't bring her. If I show a picture of her, they may let me get one... I know if I go I'll be very annoyed if they don't let me get one.

Edit: My friend has a son who LOVES Skylanders. I'm sure she'll allow me to bring a picture of him with his collection so I can get one. Of course than I would feel obligated to give the figure to him lol.

And the more scalpers are supported, the more this kind of stuff will happen. The scalpers thank anyone buying one from them. You paid one of their bills for the month, over a toy that levels to 15 and will be out... someday.

I agree with Gamemaster, I can wait for her to have a wide release. New york is too far away and there's no way I'll be paying insane scalper prices for this thing in Ebay. It's nice to have some patience, saves me a lot of money!

I'll trek on down to see what the action is. No kid, just me. I suspect I won't be getting one because the earliest I can be there will be 2:45 and the event starts at 4pm and knowing the people of NYC (and having been to events in NYC before), there will be a long line (the line is, on average, at it's longest two hours before so I'm screwed). However, that won't stop me from visiting just for kicks.

But this "months" business is hinting at something ridiculous. They need to quit dragging out the release of the toys (and before a Non-US Skylander fans whines, I meant globally). Like everyone else has said, it really just boosts the profits of the scalpers who manage to snag it first.

I seriously thought TFB meant it when they wanted to try and put scalpers on ice. Releasing Ninjini in one city of one state, at one store, is the grand way for NYC scalpers to get in on some serious dinero.

When I first read it, I literally epic facepalmed. As a fan, I am disappointed they are allowing some people to have the figure early, just based on what city they live in, while flipping other people the bird and saying "Wait a specific number of months." I beat the game in TWO DAYS, and it took another TWO DAYS to beat it on Nightmare. There is no sense to be dragging this out so long, when we don't even have new Adventure Packs for Giants.

Sigh.........

#22 Posted: 07:49:07 01/02/2013
So they are having an event focused on children, that invites people to line up early ... on a school day? And five days before the start of the show? Starting at 4pm or not, that would require parents to get off work, kids to need to get out early to line up. Let's just say a few things are a bit unusual. And the "months early", wow way to really blow things - TFB already screwed up with the 2 month dry spell between Wave 2 and 3 (which they had to end up sending out in pieces), and now they are basically saying that it will be at minimum April before we get the last giant?

If all that is true, it is one of the most idiotic moves I can imagine. They better at least have every single other figure out (repose and lightcores) in the meantime. Because the longer they have in between new releases, the more interest is lost. I have a feeling the "months" thing is a worst case exaggeration to drum up interest. Whoever put it out though should be aware that the interest they drum up in NYC will fan out into disgust across the rest of the world. They should have just said "early" and been done with it.

Then add in the scalpers that will no doubt fill the line, and TFB might as well open an eBay storefront and make the premium themselves. Although, given that they say "opportunity", I have a feeling it might be drawing based, and only have a few as prizes (in which case it isn't a big deal). I have less of a problem with them releasing some early than I have with telling us we are going to be waiting that long after this for the rest of us to get our chance.

I agree. I mean by the time all the skylanders are released we already finished the game. I like collecting them but it sucks for gameplay since I beat the game within two months of its release. I think the first game has better replay value than giants. The levels are just too long in giants.

What's the difference between this or releasing the Metallic Cynder at last year's Toy Fair?

Except that these will be available to the general public instead of only attendees of Toy Fair *and* that this is (likely) a figure that will still receive a regular distribution so that we'll all have a chance to get it, at regular price, eventually?

sorry for double post guys but unclebob the difference is the fact that the metallic cynder was a variant NINJINI is a normal character to play ingame and activision/blizzard/toysforbob dont care about the normal payin customer any longer we all know fine well scalpers are goin to be all over this event to rip the paying customer off AGAIN its unfair what the makers are doing all the toys should be released at the same time and with enough quantitys to stop scalping people are going to lose interest in this brand very quickly cause personally if i have not got the rest of the figures by march then i will not be buying into any future games from activision and will be giving my son my collection of skylanders which just now is probally worth round about £2650

On a Tuesday? That's really...weird. Yeah sure. They want "kids" to go to this. If they really wanted "kids" to go, they should have it on a Saturday.

NY really isn't that far, but no way would I go there to wait in line for Ninjini. Especially since she'll be out later. No one needs to have it "first" and it'd be dumb to waste the money getting to NY...and sheeesssh. Good luck finding somewhere to park. Might as well stay in New Jersey and take a bus in.

I guess it's kind of cool they're doing promotional things, and it makes sense they'd do it at TRU, much less one in arguably the US's most popular place. I'd be VERY curious to see though if the figure has a different box or something. That'd be cool. A "Prerelease" sticker on it. I don't see that happening but ehh.

Actually, coming out in a few months makes sense to me, and that leads into my theory. Easter is March 31st, and they'll probably have the next wave come in around that time. So Ninjini will probably definitely be in Wave 4.

I think this is a fair assumption. The packaging for the Toy Fair Cynder did have a Toy Fair backing. ... So, while it may be the same figure, it may have a different backing. Maybe. We will know soon enough.

Like I mentioned, I'm far less concerned they are doing a special event in NYC. Similarly, I thought it was crazy some people got upset over Employee Prism Break. That's just entitlement run wild.

My problem with this is the indication they are going to drag out the release of the last giant much longer than expected if the statement is accurate. I fully expected variants to run into the summer, that's cool - it keeps interest up. But base game figures? No. I just hope that part of the statement is inaccurate, and if it is they need to beat the marketing guy that wrote it. Because the target audience will completely lose interest in "months", especially if Purple Ninja Barbie is what is left - that's not exactly an easy sale to pre-teen boys. My oldest is far more interested in the variants than Ninjini, he hasn't even asked when she is coming out.

I do also question the logic behind doing an event aimed at kids on a school day. That's just asking for trouble.

That's the thing. To have a truly complete game, you need all of the figures to SEE everything each game has to offer. Things would have been much better for Giants, had they released a new Adventure Pack every month until the month they see fit to release the last of the characters. That allows owners of Skylanders to at least turn on their game once a month to experience something new.

I just feel like I was leaked on by Activision or TFB. I'm sure other fans do.

For my loyalty to this franchise - and others loyalty - the gratitude extended to me and others is the notion that Ninjini will be available to a very, very, very, select few IN JUST FOUR DAYS, in one city, of one state, at one store. In other words, TFB is thanking the scalpers for helping this franchise be all it is now, because they were the ones who made them what they are now. *rolls eyes*

I thought TFB was sending out enough to meet demand, in order to curb scalping, but they just gaunrenteed scalpers some huge money. Not only that, but fools are going to be stupid enough to pay for it, and what do you have? You have a cause and effect, where all scalpers will list Ninjini if bought earlier than others, as super hard to find and command more money, which then leads to scalpers heavily scalping her. So, with this announcement alone, they broke their word. They aren't meeting demand with Ninjini, thus their statement of being able to keep up with demand, wasn't spoken with a true tongue - in my opinion.

I don't know anymore... I honestly don't. It's bad enough I have to worry that TFB is going to pull some move, like make one or more of the ingame variants (ie Gnarly etc) only available at a convention, which means I can only own one, and pay out the rear for it.

I bought 4 of EVERY character so far. That means I literally bought 4 freakin' Wii's, just so my kids and myself could have 4 Gnarly Tree Rex figures. I did so in good faith that I would have access to all 8 ingame variants, through stores in my area, so I could get 4 of each one.

Now I have to worry if Ninjini, any other Lightcores, and the remaining Series 2, are going to be the next Wham Shell.

This is starting to become a huge cluster you know what.

It just makes me mad that I am paying to complete the collection of a game that took me 4 days to beat twice (Hard and Nightmare). They will follow up with game 3, where instead of giving us new and fresh, they will give us ten million of the same figures. We can expect -

- Series 2 of some of the remaining Series 1 Skylanders and Newlanders from Giants
- Series 3 of some of the Series 2 figures
- Lightcores of previous Skylanders and Newlanders from game 3
- GPS Skylanders of some of the figures from SSA, Giants, and game 3
- Laser light Skylanders of some of the figures from SSA, Giants, and game 3
- Series 2 Giants
- Possible new Giants (which will make the story not worth the spit because it wouldn't make sense to the story of Giants)
- Legendary Series 2 figures
- Series 2 Dark Spyro
- Series 2 Adventure Packs and Magical Items

O.V.E.R.K.I.L.L! There comes a time when quantity can ruin quality. If TFB ever indeed goes this far, it's like they never cared about more than money to begin with. HEADS UP, FOLKS! YOU CAN'T DIE WITH YOUR MONEY! Why not leave a legacy of good, instead of a legacy of ruin, just to fix up your yachts a few times then die without your materials (ie money, fancy boats and houses).

Okay, I'm in rage mode now. This is all getting silly, and I have a script to finish. Not the one I've been writing, as I finished that. But, Nickelodeon is accepting from first time writers, so I am writing a TMNT script to send to them (based on their rules).

This is pathetic, though. Paul mentioned in an interview with Andy at FGTV, that they wanted to get the figures out much faster this time. I had Wham Shell, by the end of the first week of April. It looks like they're at least stretching this out to late March. I could see it going even further, if they decide to release the ingame variants at stores, but not release all 4 before the end of March.

The wait was SOMEWHAT easier, due to the fact there were two Adventure Packs that came out in January and March.

Instead of TFB focusing on making ten thousand variations of figures, because they want to be like Furbies and retire molds, they could focus on giving more than 16 Newlanders per game, making their games longer, and giving us a new Adventure Pack every month, for as long as they drag out the release of figures for each game. I gave an excellent method on Neogaf. Release 6 Adventure Packs per year, in October (1), December (2), February (3), April (4), June (5), and August (6), then the next game would release two months later. Rinse and repeat. This allows people to maximize their money per game, as they at least get to stretch one game out to nearly a year for the money they spend. Not 4 days (or 1 week with the first game).

Releasing Adventure Packs also builds more lore for Skylands, while also allowing a main story to be told.

My loyalty doesn't mean spit to them. We all have huge collections than the scalpers do. Yet, our appreciation is waved Ninjini's - the last Skylander we need to have all NEW Skylanders - in our faces, while being told TFB: "You can always pay our good buddies, the scalpers, for one on Ebay. We owe them everything."

You know what's even more sad, and I expect people here to be chicken you know whats about it. I bet some people who frequent this site will get one from that line and throw it up on Ebay. Again, you can't die with your money. I'd rather die with a clean - honorable - conscience, than a soul that cared about the root of all evil.

On a Tuesday? That's really...weird. Yeah sure. They want "kids" to go to this. If they really wanted "kids" to go, they should have it on a Saturday.

While Tuesday isn't ideal for kids, the timing of the event has more to do with the fact that Activision already has a press-only event scheduled in NYC that night, so they wanted to maximize the number of press who could attend the TRU event.

all of this waiting for new figures is just stupid and of no benefit to anyone other than scalpers

Your statement contradicts itself. If there were no benefit to the new figures, then there would be no need to buy them, and no one giving money to scalpers. If there were no benefit, the figures so use collect dust on store shelves.

I don't see how an early release affects my enjoyment of the game whatsoever. We were never getting Nnjini before March at the earliest anyway. It might be different if they were only selling the figure in one city, but this is just a promotion like any other.

I see GM78 is back to whiner mode already. He is like a wife in an abusive relationship. I'm sure he will go out of his way to get one of these Ninjini anyway.
