Last year on February 7th, Activision announced Skylanders Giants. Do you think there is any chance they announce the next game around the same time? Last year's announcement was 5 days before the New York Toy Fair. This year's toy fair is February 10th-13th.

If they follow the same pattern, Skylanders 3 could be announced in about 2 weeks. What do you think?

I think possibly. A game yearly seems legit, and we know how activision is... No suprises

Without a doubt they'll reveal it. Skylanders prints money for Activision.

They would want to even more aswell seeing as they have Disney Infinity to compeat against.

you must simply have no idea about disney fan mentality and the almost bottomless pit of marketing and development funding that disney has available

don't get me wrong, i will be getting "skylanders 3" myself ... but infinity simply offers so much more potential.

i'm particularly looking forward to building our own game in the toy box with my sons that they can then share with their friends.

Activision already stated a third game will be announced soon, based on the article another person posted on this forum, detailing Activision's statements of there being room to grow in retail when it comes to gaming.

That wasn't really an announcement though, just confirming that a 3rd game will be coming (no body should be surprised by that one) but last year on Feb. 7th they announced the name and gave details about the game like the number of new characters, backward compatibility, etc.

That is the type of announcement that I am expecting before Toy Fair because I whole expect Activision to have the new game on display at Toy Fair.

And this is what competition does. It forces you to improve and not remain stagnant. Hopefully Activision/Toys for Bob bring their best for Skylanders 3.

Most likely, considering that they pretty much announced it in that interview with family gamer TV. However, I can't help but notice that this time last year we already knew the game was going to be called Giants because of the domain name purchases... Hmm... Maybe we should start hunting for those.

I was thinking the exact same thing about the domain name purchases. Any idea how people look those up? A quick google search pulled up nothing in terms of tools to find recently registered domain names.

EDIT: Just found a service that does this, but it costs $19 a month. I don't care that much.

i wud rather that Activision/TFB delay their announcement rather than hurrying up repeating with s3 reposes, 2 coop, no online features and shorter gameplay. i wud rather see them more innovative this time offering more than what they had as they have competition now. Activision/TFB if your reading this heres an idea, make use of your cards also to extend gameplay online/offline. make a card game if you can buy the IP of "Eye of Judgement" and implement it on skylanders that wud be golden. or make a card game like magic the gathering/pokemon etc etc since elements are involved. im really hoping they will step up their game this time. i wud really like to see what skylanders and disney infinity will bring to us consumers once their both released.

this is exactly the same thing that guitar hero went through

-> first game released, a bit of a sleeper hit
-> next game quickly announced, produced just as quickly
-> three or four games released on a yearly basis
-> spinoffs appear in addition to the yearly "main" games
-> this continues, market is completely flooded, everyone knows what guitar hero is but doesn't buy any further games
-> demand plumets, sales go to zero
-> developer completely demolished, everyone fired, basically the development studio is taken out back and shot
-> activision walks away with all the profit and none of the risk, because publishers are pure evil

this is EXACTLY what will happen to toys for bob.

Thing about Guitar Hero, it was nothing more than pushing the same 5 buttons in different patterns. It didn't have characters that leveled to 10, could learn new moves, be played on multiple games, and play levels that were all completely different than the others.

Heck, I bet Toys for Bob could get away with making two Skylanders games a year. One is just a disc with a storyline or a set of levels building lore from other parts of Skylanders, with no new character releases, while every October would be their "Kaos" game, where he is trying to take over Skylands. Doing that would build lots of lore for the entire Skylanders universe.

Activision will make at least 37 more games, where Kaos takes over Skylands!

Activision will milk the series as long as they can and as hard as they can. They pretty much killed Guitar Hero and Tony Hawk by releasing two or more titles per year without much improvement between titles. Hopefully they don't do the same with Skylanders.

Don't understimate the power of market saturation... It dosen't matter if the game is good. innovation take time, and it don't take long to make people tired of it. Look at the raving rabbid party game their latest game have a very poor score compared to the first one

Yeah, I'm pretty sure they'll announce it, and the new "gimmick" instead of Lightcore's this time around. Maybe ones that talk when placed on the portal. Looking forward to it.

type so when they implement their starwars or marvel they will learn from the mistakes they made. but tbh the pricing is not that bad considering it includes a sandbox game so the gameplay is kinda endless. their playset is like buying an expansion so thats added gameplay. what I dont like are the power disc. u get random disc for the price.

i really hope acti/TFB will really step up their game not just releasing new figs with same gameplay. I really luv skylanders I just dont want it to suffer the fate like guitar hero/rock band did. hoping they will always improve and inovate.

With Disney Infinity talk going around I'm sure Activision wants to start talking about the 3rd game as quickly as possible to stop people talking about the competition.

I wonder what impact the expected release of the next-gen systems (Xbox 720 & PS4) this year will have on the next Skylanders game. I really, REALLY we see some online play/updates :-D

idk...BUT they should announce Ninjini's release date. I need to start saving up for her!!!

We will buy it no matter what, but I do hope they do something different with the game itself. More figures is fine, another 16 new ones will be about right, but if its just the same thing again, it will start to 'depreciate' and get dull. I mean, they have missed a trick with giants. If they had dlc for new Brocks challenges, me & the boy would be over the moon. Even if its £4.99 we would still purchase it.

This is ss close to 10PM as I could get. Keep in mind that I know that my site leaves much to be desired. It was a WIP, and then I had alot of personal things going on and never tended to it, so it is what it is. I hope to be back in full swing now that NY Toy Fair is here:
