You need the dragon engine equipped and you fall of the edge towards the screen on to the wing and into the door.

They mean this only works if you have the Dragon Engine (the bat wing looking one) equipped on the ship, they're the only wings that it'll let you walk off the edge and land on.

The Dragon Engine is the Legendary Treasure on Chapter 9: Kaos' Kastle. If you don't know how or where to find it, check the walkthrough at:

(When describing you getting it, the walkthrough even mentions that this Engine unlocks an area on the Dread Yacht, LOL!)

The only Soul Gems in Giants are the ones for the Giants and the Newlanders (8 each, so 16 total). 16 Soul Gems, 16 Chapters, so obviously one per Chapter. I assume you have Chapter 1's, because the game shows it to you, LOL! All the other characters, the characters who were introduced in the first game, you automatically have the Soul Gems, they just make you pay for those upgrades.

But giving 16 detailed descriptions seems a bit too much. What's easier is if you check which ones you need. Pause, Chapter Select, each level is shown with how many of the 3 stars you have. If you're missing any collectable (Hat, Treasure Chest, Winged Sapphire, Legendary Treasure, etc), including the Soul Gem, you'll be missing the third star. Once you're actually in the level, Pause and choose Objectives, then move Right to the third star, then you can see exactly which collectables you're missing.

From there, just come back here to check the walkthrough for the level you need. (If you don't know, click the Skylanders: Giants icon at the top of the page, then you'll see a Chapter list on the left side, just click the one you want).
