I understand and respect that this is a controversial subject that is currently being discussed. An individual is being paid by a company to perform a task. During this task that individual is also performing an action that goes against the employers best interests of having desirable merchandise hit the shelves thus encouraging future business.

While I respect and sympathize with your viewpoint Sharkz2001 we have to remember this is an open forum and appropriate terminology and phrasing needs to be used here. Swearing and inappropriate phrasing will not be allowed despite the validity of anyone's argument.

This thread shows how much stupidity someone has when they get mad at an Employee who finds a variant. Calm the flock down. There are many more in the country/world ._. Plus He can do what ever he wants with them. They're HIS. Not YOURS. He can sell them for his own gain, he may NEED the money for bills or groceries. If you are THAT jealous to call him out, go let it out on Something else. He can do what ever he wants, and last time I checked, I don't remember knowing you guys have the power to make him do what you want to do.

And this is where everything just gets messed up to make me look like I'm doing something low down. By "task" I'm assuming you mean stocking the shelves? If that's the case then that is not a task that my employer pays me to do. I'm a Guest Service Team Leader. My work area is the front end check lanes, Starbucks and the food court. With Electronics being at the back of the store lol. I can understand the frustration if I was an Electronics employee and pulled the skylanders out of the box and bought them right there. Yes, I purchased these while I was at work. But it is completely within company policy to use your break time as you see fit. But this whole thing just got blown up because some guy wanted to assume I did something wrong. And that's the last thing I'm saying about that.

I'd like the thread to stay alive and on topic if the Hunters see fit. But if it's already gone far enough then by all means close or delete it.

Sorry but I couldn't let this series of comments slide. You seem to have responded to posts made by another forum member without reading - or at the very least understanding - what they have written or the points they are trying to make.

You state: "There are many more in the country/world" - well I would debate that point, most variants are limited which is part of the main point. They are hard to come by so should employees be able to purchase them when they have such an advantage over everyone else?

"He can sell them for his own gain" - yes he can now, but that actually adds to the argument. Consider this: Most variants are rare, there are not as many of them made. If you would like to buy one there are 2 ways that you might be able to do this being 1) be LUCKY enough to find one in a shop or 2) buy one off someone else, possibly through eBay etc. Now option number 2 normally means that you will pay a LOT MORE for the same character because it is rare. So if employees of the stores stocking these products buy a high percentage of them before Joe Public gets to chance to and then sell them at greatly inflated prices is that fair and reasonable? That is the question, regardless of what they might need the money for you seem to have ignored this point completely.

Sorry if I have misunderstood your point here I really don't get what you mean with that sentence.

"He can do what ever he wants" - of course he can and obviously he has, the point of the argument is whether or not he should have done what he did, which you seem to have ignored or at least not addressed.

I want to point out I am not taking one side or another I can see and sort of agree with both sides. But I think if you're going to have a go at someone it would be nice to try to have a go based on what they are saying and it appears to me that you haven't understood the argument of the person you're having a go at.

Back on topic, they look good DutRank, how many did your store get in do you know? Be interesting to see how rare these end up being.

There was one other that I didn't get because, at the time, I really had no idea what these were and how limited they were. I always buy 2 of any variant. So I could open one and hang one on my skylanders wall still in the box.
But there is no telling how many we actually got. Could have still been some in the back. There were 3 that I saw for sure.

I do know single packs come in 8 figures per box for Target. But not sure of how many variants per box they usually ship with.

Please, would someone tell me how a target employee, that doesn't work in the electronics department, buying a skylander on his break, has anymore of an advantage than anyone else?

1. They work in the store, so even if they are not in the same department they can walk a few dozen steps and be in the electronics department. They could easily check that departments stock dozens of times each day, every few minutes if they wanted to, but they probably wouldn't have to because ...

2. They work in the store, chances are even if they don't work in that department they would be friends with the people that do. Those friends could open up a box out the back then BEFORE putting them on the shelves say 'Hey good time to go on a break wink, wink, nudge, nudge' and then stock the shelves right in front of the person on their break who just happens to pick up the rare characters.

It's a HUGE advantage for an employee, a huge disadvantage for us non-employees, but seriously who here wouldn't do the same thing? A good mate of mine works for a store that stocks Skylanders and I have asked him to put one aside for me if he gets one in. So I could hardly have a go at DutRank for doing the same sort of thing.

Going back and looking at your posts it looks like you "throw a fit" about everything and use a "tough guy" persona yet you sit here in the one thread I had a disagreement with another person, which wasn't even your business, yet an hour later after everything is fine you have to keep posting about it. To be honest, why should we care about people finding variants such as the white flocked Stump Smash and other rare variants, besides i only care if they look different in the game, and i only buy them if they at least have different stats, and those other variants, everybody has his/her own opinion about these types of variants, if you think buying these variants is a waste of time and money than you shouldn't criticize other peoples who think that buying these variants are worth it, let them do whatever they want to do if they found a rare variant, besides i rather ignore them then get into an argument with them.

There have been several people attack me on this thread based on my opinion even after the argument was over. Anyone who argues that that is unethical or unfair can look no farther than their own selves, because anyone who has a desire for this game and its figures is going to want them bad enough to grab them when they can.

Or, maybe you're one of those weirdos that purposely misses an opportunity to get a Skylanders that sells for hundreds on eBay, and then blame Wal-mart employees because you're jealous that they have such a cool job.

All said, you were working at the time according to the books.

Still,
I've never worked at a punch card clock in/out time of job.
So, maybe for those folks they don't get paid through their 15 min?

Variants never show up in my part of the country without some smoke and mirrors so I don't even bother.

Yes,
It was college work study.
And basically you were only allowed so many hours anyway.
But since I was working through break, somehow it showed up as more time, and my manager was getting in trouble.
So he was telling me I had to take breaks.
It was my only ever punch in and out job.

Reason you can get fired is because it's required by law to take breaks every so many hours. Employers don't make the rule, they are just supposed to enforce it.

I could be wrong, but I believe the law states that employers are required to GIVE paid breaks (15 min per 4 hour shift, or 20 min per 6 hour shift), but I know of no law that requires employees to TAKE breaks.

And I've never heard of needing to punch in and out for paid breaks. Lunch breaks, yes. But not paid breaks. Strange.

Could be something that is different for minors, I suppose.

You know, speaking of variants, I saw a Red Drill Sergeant in Walmart the other day, and surprisingly, it was the last one in the store, but I didn't care. I don't care for special non-ingame variants.

Unfortunately the Red Drill Sergent is about as rare as Legendary Trigger Happy or Glow in the Dark Sonic Boom.

red drill sergeant isnt rare at all and never was. walmart was always over stocked with them. only reason you saw just 1 is because they are clearing out stock now.

I know several retailers that DO NOT allow you to profit on merchandise you purchase from them as an employee. If Target catches you selling the figures, and that is in their policy, it's a swift boot out the door.


On a more topic related note, I've never had any luck finding variant figures, and I work in a retail store that stocks them. Then I hear stories about other stores in my district getting variants in, and the employees WHO DON'T EVEN PLAY THE GAME buys them. Perhaps one day I'll run into one of these figures.

As far as selling items you purchase, if you use your team member discount or if you buy the item during your shift you can not do any kind of re-selling.

While employees may get an advantage, as long as the items are put out on the shelves, what is the big deal?

If you really are concerned, then get yourself a job at Toys R Us or Target!

All I can say is I'm a huge skylanders fan. I do not work in a retail environment but if I did, I would be using every advantage I could to get some of these rarer figures. My family shops a lot and every store that stocks skylanders we always check -- never have found a rare varient. So if I worked at Walmart/Target/etc I would be walking by every 5 minutes when I know we got a shipment You would do the same!

Congratulations on the two White Stump Smash figures! Sell them now while they are hot! They are going for $300 on eBay! That is $600 right there!

Are we missing the point that he came in here to find out what they are worth. He has no intention of keeping them for his collection which I would be ok with. Not to mention he took both. He could have left one for the paying customer that don't get a discount.
