neither! it's Boscov's. a chain that's primarily in PA and has stayed pretty successful over the years. my local one has a ton of neon signs and mirrored ceilings everywhere

I enjoyed the movie but I don't think it is a masterpiece that I was expecting. was it my fault for having high expectations? probably. but the film tackles way too much content but doesn't tackle them enough. for example, the trump analogy was pretty one note and got pretty tiring after a bit IMO. like its super obvious that this is a trump parody with people in red hats begging the former politician to save them. they also had him get shot in the face in a failed assassination. which is pretty crazy because this was filmed in 2020. but there's no real commentary. it pretty much the caricature trump is portrayed as is bad. and yeah trump is pretty bad but the movie pretty much makes it out like a chad vs virgin meme. him being into eugenics and having a nazi like logo is pretty on the nose lol. and they use gas to kill aliens.
the director is known for political messages in their movie against capitalism and this movie does the same thing. i really enjoy how an authoritarian figure keeps track of everyone's calories while feasting themselves. or how he gets people in the lower class to fight each other instead of him. its a pretty surface level analysis on why capitalism sucks but it gets the message across.
there's also messages about anti-colonialism, anti-animal abuse, and anti-genocide represented by a worm monster. there's a lot of topics this movie discusses. but because of this I feel like I don't really gain much from it. i agree with the statements this movie makes. but I don't gain from it.
movie wise the 1st act wasn't the greatest. i think it went a little too slow and had a little too much narration. i get that Americans are dumb so we need to tell them how to think. but at a certain point we can kinda connect the dots on why this character feels this way. it also dragged a little because we already know the plot and we're just waiting for it. the 2nd act however, is really fun and went by. i love the mickey 17 and 18 interactions so much. and I really wish the movie focused more on the personhood and identity themes instead of an easy anti-capitalist message. for example, I have seen people asking "why is mickey 18 more bruting than mickey 17?" when the movie tells them why. the 3rd act however, I didn't really care for as much. the film changes from anti-capitalism to anti-colonialism and anti-animal abuse and it gets much slower as it introduces a new character to care for after an already pretty big cast. and because of this the movie kinda drags. speaking of cast.
there is just way too many characters. there's mickey 1,2,3,4.......17, and 18. which makes sense cause he's the star. but the movie doesn't really tell you what happens to a lot of the mickeys. i think a quick montage of mickeys dying could have been fun. there's also mickeys girlfriend, mickeys friend invincible who doesn't really do much in this movie, mickeys friend who tries to sleep with him who disappears in the 3rd act after having a pretty big chunk of screen time in the 2nd act, the woman who recruits mickey in the 1st act who disappears forever, scientist girl, trump, trumps wife, and alien worm. there were just too many characters kinda just doing nothing for most of the movie until their side quest popped up. like imagine playing wizard 101 and you're about to fight Malistaire. but then wizardguy8297897 decides to talk to you for a second and that's really it. wizardguy8297897 doesn't really do anything just talk. that's pretty much what invincible and mickey's friend who tried to sleep with him did in this film.
also after trump dies there's like more of the movie and it doesn't really feel needed. like did we really need a dream sequence?
overall I enjoyed the film but it is not the strongest movie ever. like a 7.5 due to feeling unfocused.
I really love the movie 500 days of summer. It is a work of art where different people can have different interpretation. Sure you can understand the surface level analysis of "guy has unrequited love with a girl". But imo it's revealing for a person to say both Tom and summer are in the wrong.
This movie takes place in toms pov. When. You hear the narrator it isn't about summer it's about Tom. When the narrator describes summer it's stuff Tom makes up about her. For example, summer says she's from Michigan. The narrator says she's from a city in Michigan that doesn't exist. When Tom listens to summer open up personally he doesn't listen. Instead the narrator takes over talking about how Tom is the special man in summers life.
Summer is not a character. She has no personality. She has no goals. She is only toms interest. And it's done intentionally. Tom doesn't know summer so why would his pov know? This movie is a bunch of memories from Tom. Not a recreation of the events.
Tom plays himself as the lost romantic and the hero of this love story. Summer doesn't feel the same about love and Tom wants to get her to love him back. He has an image of summer and when it isn't her he gets mad.
Sure summer can be in the wrong because she lead him on or wanted a **** buddy. But in the end why does her being in the wrong too matter? Like if a student fails a test do they blame themselves for not studying? Or do they blame their teachers?
By saying both are in the wrong or if summer is the villain than you are playing the blame game. Remember this story is toms not summers. We are here to learn from his mistakes. Not hers. How can someone mature by admitting that they're in the wrong but also blaming others?
i was veggie for 2 years a few years ago then **** happened and i went back to eating meat but nearly 2 weeks ago i decided to stop being a hypocrite (bc i've still always held veg/vegan morals/opinions even while eating meat so, yeah, big fat hypocrite) and realised, what's actually stopping me? i've moved out now and no one can give me grief on iT's nOt sUsTaInAbLe etc. question is when/how do i tell my friends. it's only been just under 2 weeks, might just pop out with "o yeah btw i don't eat meat anymore" in another month or so if it hasn't come up by then.

keep getting a free coffee with my cigarettes and i have noticed that a french vanilla coffee when you forget about it for 6 hours then remember it is there and finally drink it and it is cold as sheet that it tastes exactly like chocolate milk which for me as i am kind of hooked on chocolate makes it more addictive made myself sick twice already from using my throat as a drain for large cups of coffee. yun... but ewck
