We all know that the standard price for a giant is $14.99 and that Toys R Us recently bumped up their price to $15.99. I just found out it can get even worse.
I saw a lot of Legendary Bouncers before Christmas, but I haven't seen any after Christmas. The Toys R Us in San Rafael, CA has at least 30 of them, but it rang up as $17.49.
Luckily, some of the Legendary Bouncers still had $15.99 stickers on them so I complained and brought one over. They adjusted the price for me and then started removing the $15.99 stickers. I'm never going to that Toys R Us again.

They price match other stores. Just tell them the price everywhere else and say you're not going to pay the extra dollar they are charging. They will match the price. I'm not sure about the Legendaries though.

Maybe Acti and TRU's contract to get characters first expired at the end of the year. Usually TRU stuff is more expensive then other stores, from what I have seen anyways. This could be why they are raising prices. Trying to prove a point to acti saying that they won't sell unless you give us the good contract back. However, this will blow up in their face.

California's sales tax is 7.5%. An item would need to be ~$16.27 for an after-tax price of $17.49. My local Toys R Us hikes the price of the "out of print" items like the Adventure Packs; they're $26.99 when available. Of course, the local Target just put out a half-dozen Ghost Roasters back on Friday (at the usual $19.99 price), so I question just how "out of print" those guys actually are. |

Speaking as a TRU employee I would honor the standard price on all characters save the Legendaries. Being that the Legendaries are a TRU exclusive I don't see how I could justify matching a store exclusive to the generic stock. Same would apply to Granite Crusher or Glow Sonic Boom, if I worked at their respective stores.

You will need to find the /right/ employee. I know my store has been very lenient with price-matching for a while now but there is a kicker. TRU sent out a communication last week((Possibly the week before)) to stores reinforcing that Price-Matching other brick-and-mortar stores requires a paper-ad. Expect this to become the norm as the year drags on and brick-and-mortar-stores begin dipping back into undesirable sales. Shinken - I would double check with your Rzone sup just to make sure you don't get yourself in trouble. I know mine doesn't give much of a care - then again I properly stock my shelves and ran out of Exclusives a looooong time ago because of it. |

Uh, I'm not usually that stupid. It was $17.49 before tax. Total with tax was $19.02. California sales tax varies by city. In San Rafael, it is currently 8.75%. |

I would check online in a few days. Last time they raised them, it took a few days for them to raise them online. I honestly don't know how to feel about this. I don't particuarly care for either of these stores outside of skylanders. TRU usually has higher prices for things that I want. Gamestop usually the same way too. Now, I do have a few that I will visit only because they are usually very nice.
For TRU if they are trying to prove a point, this could come back to bite them. People will go other places to get this if they want. A dollar might not make a different but if you start going two to three dollars a figure higher. Then we have a problem. |

Actually I think it's more aimed at gift cards.
If you have a TRU gift card the you're going to use it AT TRU. I've seen it everyday since Xmas - even if we don't have what a kid is looking for that giftcard is just burning a hole in their pocket...they'll buy just about anything - and since it's not mom and dad's money a lot of parents haven't really noticed the price-hike yet. That's my opinion on the price-hikes. Is it right? No... Remains to be seen if they'll reduce them back down now that people are starting to use up giftcards and the sales are slowing waaaaay down. |

Also, this is the time of the year for price hikes. Some companies year end was Dec 31st. Now, I was in a TRU and they were talking and it sounds like they have not hit their year end yet. A lot of stuff is changing. Not to get all political on everyone here but, due to government doing things and what not it is making things go up in price. Companies will and always have(just not TRU) pass these costs a long to customers. I'm not going to get into the argument of if it is wrong or if it is incorrect. Just keep in mind that when you see other things go up in price it may not always be that a company is trying to be greedy. It could be that they are just trying to survive. |

TRU is a "specialty" store. This has always been their excuse for higher than norm prices.
And no Dec. 31st is not the end of their Fiscal year. In fact it's rarely ever the end of any retailers fiscal year. The main reason being - January is a massive month to take hits. While store will generally hit their sales goal they are taking massive hits on their end of Quarter reports from Returns exchanges and damages.. Compounded with Feb-May being the one a terrible time of the year for Retailers they wouldn't want to take those loses on that Quarter. I think I might be derailing this a bit...sorry. |

It's all good Nash. I know that sometimes it is hard defending what you do to make a living. I work in the insurance business and I understand both sides of the story. I try and point out things that people may not see.
What it honestly boils down too is, either you find it somewhere else or if you find at TRU you will probably pay the higher prices. It is really up to you. |

Aside from Shinken matching prices for me, since he knows other stores prices, I've only done a price-match at TRU one other time and all I did was pull out my phone and show the employee the page for the specific character on Bestbuy.com and they accepted it.

Yeah TRU charges more for many things. The Wii Remote Plus is $41.99 there and on the website, and it is $39.99 everywhere else. Sure they have sales frequently, like that black remote is on sale right now - but that's how they justify the prices I guess. They are avoiding falling into legal trouble for misleading prices by having their regular prices high - JCPenney got in trouble a while back when they would mark things up on the weeks they had percent off sales (in jewelry in particular). By keeping prices high, then running sales all the time they are making up the difference in the end, and they appear to have better prices than they do. Lots of people go there looking for an item on sale, then buy something else at a marked up price. Hey, come buy the Starter Pack, it's on sale - then oh by the way don't you want an extra controller or a few extra figures for that, here they are (all marked up). The only way to come out ahead is to only buy stuff on sale, or shop somewhere else. |

Weird, here in Northern VA I can never find any Legendary Bouncers!
The one I was able to find was in one of those "Christmas" mini-TRUs that they open over the holidays. Legendary Bouncer was actually on sale for $12.99! When they are making a profit at that price it's crazy to think they're now charging over $17 for the same figure. I still say he looks awesome though Wonder how much Legendary Lightcore Chill is going to cost

For those of you that have a Hastings near you, that is a good place to find S1 figures. The one near me actually has a ton of figures from S1 as well as Giants. I think it's a place that gets overlooked because of the bigger retail chains. Plus I really don't know how big of a chain Hastings really is or how far they expand in the US. Hope this helps to anyone looking for the older figures and such.

Ship-To-Store and Store Pickup are not available for Legendary Bouncer. The website also won't let you check store inventory for Legendary Bouncer. It's been that way for a long time. If Toys R Us is having problems stocking a particular Skylander, they turn off all of the website features that might actually help you find it without paying shipping. |

SlayerX11, every TRU should match Toysrus.com prices so long as the online item isn't marked as an online only price. And as for them not price matching after Christmas, its on the first page of the paper ad this week.
cupra, you clearly need a lesson in selfcontrol. Regardless of how upset you are the prices when up a dollar or two, you still choose to act like a child just to get your way. You're setting a terrible example for the younger readers here. And using "eyebrawls" in that context was terribly punny.

The only reason I even bothered to go there was cause i was trying to find older spyro adventure items. Ive had problems with everything from online order returns to finding items on the floor. The ppl there are mostly useless. Now I know this aint every TRU. the one closer to my home and pretty much every other ive gone to all have pretty cool ppl in them. If you wanted to avoid shipping you could order whatever amount gives you free shipping and return the rest to the store. Thou I would decide if its worth the bother and verify what ones TRU return policy is on online orders. Ive been told buy the crappy valley stream store they don't take online order returns, others just refund you the money to your credit card (which you WILL need on you) and others only offer store credit. I haven't personally done this to get free shipping, but I see no reason why it wouldn't work. |
