Is there any advantage to the game from how Flynn's ship is decorated?

As already stated, equip the Dragon Engine (looks like bat wings). Then, on the main deck, i.e. the lower section where Cali and Ermit hang out, look at the lower edge, the edge closest to the camera. There's a gap in the middle, the same gap on the far side is where you have to descend the plank in Chapter 2: Junkyard Isles (or whatever it's called). Walk through the gap, land on the wings, and there's a door in the side of the ship. Go through, meet Hatterson.

Other than that, as far as I can tell the decorations are only personal preference. Luckily for me I preferred the Dragon Engine and found Hatterson, LOL!

The Dragon mods are the best IMO.
